HD-DVD wins, Blu-Ray loses

Recommended Posts

Meh, neither format has "won" or will every "win".

I say its choice, and its a choice for the consumer to decide on their own which one they want. Besides, players will be coming out that will read both formats. I believe both formats are really awesome, but overpriced. Yes, Microsoft added the HD-DVD player for XBox360 for $200, but it lacks the Hi-def capabilities that HD-DVD is suppose to have (can we say HDMI for true 1080p?). Even so, true HD-DVD players that have all the hi-def capabilities still run to be $400+.

And who is saying MemoryStick has failed? Its a proprietary hardware like SD, or any other type of format. Thats a ridiculous comparison.

Anyways, like I said, I think they are both awesome, but I don't think either of them will officially "win" ... its moreover a consumer choice.

But thats just my .02.

Your info is seriously outdated. Xbox 360 has been outputting 1080p since last year's Fall update, way before the HD-DVD add-on and even before the PS3 came out, and VGA cable supported resolutions up to 1080p with HD-DVD or regular DVD (upscale) playback. Component input is limited to 480p with HD-DVD playback or DVD playback due to legal issues.

And all Xbox 360 SKUs now carry HDMI output, which support resolutions up to 1080p. Granted, it's an HDMI 1.2 port, but HDMI 1.3 just isn't widely spread yet.

You of course realize, you quoted a statement made almost a year ago.

And honestly, aren't there enough of these fanboy threads already. Do old ones really need to be dredged back up, when there's probably 15 active threads on this crap already.

blu-ray sounds like some new species of sting ray scientists just discovered.....no thank you...as stated time and time again, all you sony fans can say "it aint over yet" all you want, it doesn't f'in matter. What MATTERS is what consumers (tech dorks don't count, since we're like .001% of the population) think when they go to buy something. You go ask 10 people what a transistor or megahertz or what VOIP stands for, they aren't going to know, nor are they going to understand Dual Layer/Triple Layer or other standards and formats. What they will understand is very simple terms....HD.....and DVD .......they understand both and when they combine them together, wow...HDDVD so thats what they're gonna choose...you see blueray and HDDVD players sitting next to each other on the shelf...they're gonna buy HDDVD. It's THAT simple
