Ok

Here is the ultimate wierdness.

Vista Ultimate x64 RTM - legal version

IE , opera and Microsoft Outlook have suddenly stop accessing the internet.

the x64 version of IE still works, My power radio in the sidebar still works.

System shows no driver conflict. Detect and repair showed no problems.

I reinstalled Opera and now it will not even load.

Evertime I close IE and outlook and opera I would get a message program not working. The only thing I did was install the Nvidia driver update. This update really su**ed, I rolled back to a prior date but nothing. I am baffled.

x64 works fine. No problem Any ideas out there????

Do you have an nForce board with two NICs? If so, have you tried the other one? I've had issues in the past with the Nvidia NICs on certain boards, although I'm using one right now and it's been fine.

I tried nthe 2nd nic

Same thing. Why would IE 64 work and not IE or Outlook?

Could somebe screwed up with DCHP?

Lol i've got Vista running on my 415MB SDRam machine and it runs way better and way faster than WinXP!

All my hardware recognized by default, startup is fast, all software works perfect (don't use Nero though)...

Are you sure you don't just have it set to open windows in separate processes? (I keep it like that so that when something like divx crashes explorer, Nothing else closes other than the one window.)

Agreed, I always do this. I hate explorer crashing all my windows. Great feature this was! :)

Can't say i've noticed too many Vista bugs. I've had driver issues galore, but hey...

I can print to my printers on the LAN network

I can access the internet with Vista IE 64 bit.

It seems like every 32 bit application can no longer access the internet.

My power radio in the sidebar can access the internet.

Windows update can access the internet. If your results were unexpected, what did you expect to happen?NEED help here. I tried a roll back to the last time I nwas able to download virus updates and still nothingWhat version of Windows are you running?Windows Vista Release (RTM)This installation was?a clean install of Windows VistaWhat edition of Windows are you running?Windows Vista UltimateWas this problem reported to Microsoft during the Windows Vista Beta?NoHow often does this problem happen?Always HappensHave you seen this problem before in this or a previous version of Windows? No, it is new to Windows VistaWhat is your processor architecture?AMD64 (AMD 64bit)What area of the OS are you filing a bug on?Desktop Shell / User Interface - Explorer

Hey all, over the holidays I built a new computer (specs below). I installed Vista RTM on it but did not activate it in case I did not like the motherboard or video card or whatever, this way I did not have to worry about the activation process after changing a major piece of my system. Yes this is a valid RTM copy and key that I got from the beta testing. (Thanks Microsoft). Anyway the RTM version has been nothing but hell. I can not install any Nvidia drivers except for the 97.12 version which is kind of old. When i try to start the nvidia control panel I get the "you do not have admin rights" pop up and then the panel starts but all of the icons and the information is blank. I have installed Doom, Quake 4 and Fear but none of them work. They all give me the BSOD. I do not have AERO capability or flip 3d.

Could all this be because I did not activate Vista, all the programs above worked fine in the last beta release?. Another point..I installed another hard drive with XP and the system kicks butt. Any help will be much appreciated. I am inthe process of installing the last beta build to see how things run.

Has anyone had a recurring bug where if you clikcon a link outside of internet explorer which is inteneded to open upIE with a webpage, for example goto the About option of most programs and click on the website link, 199% of the time i get Inter explorer has stopped working. What fixes it 60% of the time is having IE open already before clicking the link, but this doesn't always work...anyone else got this problem?

Your cards not supported by Vista yet.

Well was forced to reinstall everything. I am now creating an off line backup copy of Vista. At least I will be able to restore to a copy one week old.

Everyting I tried did not work. I tried to update the existing install. Vista came back with install errors and rolled back.

Startup repair did not work.

I did not have a back up copy. Soooo........ screwed again. Everyone may want to really think about adding this to their setup.

Your cards not supported by Vista yet.

Serious?! The first DX10 cards aren't supported by the only platform which supports DX10. How ridiculous; almost as bad as the Zune DRM messup.

Was thinking of getting a couple of them too!!! :(

Here is one good bug I found in RTM

recycleyt1.jpg

When you try to empty the recycle bin, it will empty but the image will not change. I tried creating new profiles which will work correctly for a little while and then begin to do the same thing.

Another bug, is that I cleared my thumbnail cache for all my videos, and now it won"t re-create them no mattter which settings i choose. go figure.

"Good bug"

No bugs are good :p

Hopefully I won't have these issues; I'm about to make the switch...wish me luck!

I've got a bug in the 32-bit version of Vista Ultimate where when I stick in an SD card and then run Media Center, I see some graphics corruption in the form of faint lines running diagonally across the screen. I don't know if it's just ATI's beta drivers but I just wanted to see if anyone else had the problem.

My hardware:

HP dv4000 CTO Laptop (Purchased Dec 2005)

Intel Pentium M Processor 1.6Ghz pinmodded to 2.13Ghz

1280MB DDR2 533Mhz RAM

ATI Mobility Radeon x700 128MB

ATI Beta drivers

Fresh install of Vista Ultimate

I don't know if this is a bug or not, but for some reason my 'Documents' folder keeps doubling up. I have one on my desktop and under my profile folder (Where the video and music folders are).

Anyone else had the same problem??

I dont think IE has ever crashed for me, do you have any tools bars installed? if so get rid of them and see if it helps. I also heard if you dont have the latest version flash player installed that can cause problems, so try installing that if you dont have it allready.

That also happens in xp ;) just make a new folder, delete it and its all fixed for a while.

I can confirm that I'm also having issues with Favorite Links and Games Explorer.

I used that thing to remove the shortcut arror from shortcuts, after adding the shortcut arrow back both thise problems were fixed for me.

Yes i have this problem.. i dont think its anything to do with having an SD card in or not.

If i start media center in a window then go to full screen i get the grapics corruption you do, if i then quit media center and load it up in full screen again its fine untill i make it go to a window then i get the grapics corruption again.

I also have an Mobility X700 card

If you re start your computer do they work again? it could be a network driver bug as sometime i can just be on the net but no webpage will load and i carnt check my email in outlook but i can still talk on msn... but if i sign out of msn i carnt sign back in untill i re start.

Regarding missing Favorites links...

Did you delete the "Links" folder in your user directory? That's what is displayed in the "Favorites" pane.

Nope i didnt, i found out using the Vista shortcut arrow remover cause the problem.

I dont think they are any drivers for the 8800 GTX yet, everything should be fine when the final Nvidia drivers are released.

When I changed from default font size 96dpi to large font size 120dpi, vista would freeze up after (the required) reboot. Changing font size back in safe mode would not fix it. Had to do a reinstall of vista. Maybe ATI drivers could be the problem. Feel free to try.

    • The Light of Life? We actually do glow till our Death, study finds by Sayan Sen Image by Rafael Rendon via Pexels A study by researchers at the University of Calgary has found that living organisms produce an extremely faint light known as ultraweak photon emission, and that this glow appears to drop significantly after death. The research was published in the Journal of Physical Chemistry in April 2025 and quickly drew widespread attention, leading to more than 200 news stories about the findings. Ultraweak photon emission (or UPE), sometimes called biophoton emission, refers to tiny amounts of light released by living cells as a result of normal biological activity. A photon is the basic particle of light, and researchers say every living system examined so far, including plants and animals, has been found to emit these photons. The glow is far too faint to be seen by the human eye. “I suppose it has a little to do with people being reminded of auras,” says Dr. Christoph Simon, PhD, one of the authors of the study and a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy in the Faculty of Science. “It is a fact that living beings glow. It’s a very weak glow, but it’s there and visible with very sensitive cameras.” According to the study, the light involved is extremely weak, ranging from 10 to 1,000 photons per square centimetre per second across a spectral range of 200 to 1,000 nanometres. For comparison, a nanometre is one-billionth of a metre and is commonly used to measure wavelengths of light. Detecting emissions at such low levels requires highly specialized equipment. To study the phenomenon, researchers used electron-multiplying charge-coupled device (EMCCD) and charge-coupled device (CCD) cameras. These imaging systems are designed to detect extremely small amounts of light, including individual photons, while minimizing background noise. The technology allowed researchers to capture signals that would otherwise be impossible to observe. The team worked with the Human Health Therapeutics Research Centre at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) in Ottawa to examine photon emissions in mice. Researchers took two-hour exposure images of the animals before and after death and compared the results. “We saw that the level of light that they emit – this biophoton glow – is distinctly different between living and dead animals,” says Dr. Daniel Oblak, PhD, an associate professor in Physics and Astronomy and the corresponding author of the study. The images showed a clear decrease in photon emissions after death across the entire body of each mouse. According to the researchers, this provided direct evidence that living and dead tissue produce different levels of ultraweak photon emission. “It’s a very small amount and it’s, of course, very tricky to detect,” Oblak says. The study grew out of discussions between Simon, whose research interests include quantum biology, and Oblak, whose work focuses on detecting light for quantum communication experiments. Quantum biology is a field that explores whether processes described by quantum physics, which studies matter and energy at very small scales, may also play a role in living systems. “Since I work as a quantum physicist on light detection for quantum communication, I thought that experimentally we have a lot of the tools to be able to detect the light,” Oblak explains. The researchers also investigated UPE in plants and found that the light changed in response to stress. When plants were exposed to higher temperatures or physically injured, their photon emissions increased. Chemical treatments also affected the glow. Among the substances tested, the local anesthetic benzocaine produced the strongest emission response when applied to injured plant tissue. These findings suggest that ultraweak photon emission is closely linked to biochemical and metabolic activity inside living organisms. Metabolism refers to the chemical reactions that allow cells and organisms to stay alive and function. Because these reactions change when an organism experiences stress, injury or disease, researchers believe UPE may provide a way to monitor those changes. The researchers stress that the glow is a physical and biological phenomenon, not a metaphysical one. Oblak says more research is needed to understand exactly how the light is produced and what information it may reveal about the condition of living tissue. “We must understand what that is to figure out what’s happening,” he says. “If we can understand how that relates to certain influences on the body – stress, diseases – then that could be used as a diagnostic tool.” The researchers believe the technique could eventually help scientists study health and disease without invasive procedures. Because UPE can be measured without adding dyes, markers or labels, it may offer a way to monitor whether tissue is healthy, damaged or alive. In plants, it could help researchers better understand how organisms respond to injury, heat and other forms of stress. While the work is still in its early stages, the study demonstrates that ultraweak photon emission imaging can provide a non-invasive and label-free way to observe biological activity. Researchers say the approach could become a useful tool for studying vitality, stress responses and other important processes in both animals and plants. • Rufus 4.15.2393 Beta 2 by Razvan Serea Rufus is a small utility that helps format and create bootable USB flash drives, such as USB keys/pendrives, memory sticks, etc. Despite its small size, Rufus provides everything you need! Oh, and Rufus is fast. For instance it's about twice as fast as UNetbootin, Universal USB Installer or Windows 7 USB download tool, on the creation of a Windows 7 USB installation drive from an ISO (with honorable mention to WiNToBootic for managing to keep up). It is also marginally faster on the creation of Linux bootable USBs from ISOs. A non-exhaustive list of Rufus supported ISOs is available here. It can be especially useful for cases where: you need to create USB installation media from bootable ISOs (Windows, Linux, UEFI, etc.) you need to work on a system that doesn't have an OS installed you need to flash a BIOS or other firmware from DOS you want to run a low-level utility Rufus 4.15.2393 Beta 2 changelog: Add RISC-V 64 support to UEFI:NTFS Improve the guards for using the "silent" option Improve the ability to cancel during write retries Improve progress reporting for compressed image extraction Fix unrestricted XML entity expansion and integer overflow in ezxml parser (courtesy of @esadowski4) [GHSA-55r2-34wg-8mv9] Fix "silent" Windows installation failing at 75% in most cases [#2960] Fix a crash during boot when using UEFI:NTFS on Snapdragon X based ARM64 platforms [#2934] Fix the first WUE option always being checked by default [#2965] Fix an infinite loop when using Windows ISOs that contain multiple WIMs Fix "Enable runtime UEFI media validation" checkbox not always being properly enabled Other WUE improvements/fixes for OneDrive removal and username validation (with thanks to @christian8641) [#2984, #2991] Download: Rufus 4.15 Beta 2 | 1.9 MB (Open Source) Links: Rufus Home Page | Project Page @GitHub | Screenshot Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
    • Tixati 3.43 by Razvan Serea Tixati is a free and easy to use BitTorrent client featuring detailed views of all seed, peer, and file transfer properties. Also included are powerful bandwidth charting and throttling capabilities, and a full DHT implementation. Tixati is one of the most advanced and flexible BitTorrent clients available. And unlike many other clients, Tixati contains NO SPYWARE, NO ADS, and NO GIMMICKS. Tixati portable version is meant to run on a USB flash drive or other portable media. It stores all its configuration files in the same folder as the executable binary files, and all file paths are stored in a format relative to the program executable folder. It is important you do not delete the "tixati_portable_mode.txt" file within the executables folder. This file is what triggers Tixati to run in portable mode. (The executable binaries are actually the same as the standard edition binaries.) When running the portable edition from a USB flash drive, especially one that is formatted in FAT16/FAT32, you may experience some lag when initially loading a new transfer. This is because initializing and allocating large files on flash-based media consumes a greater amount of time and resources compared to a conventional hard-drive. Tixati has the following features: detailed views of all aspects of the swarm, including peers, pieces, files, and trackers support for magnet links, so no need to download .torrent files if a simple magnet-link is available super-efficient peer choking/unchoking algorithms ensure the fastest downloads peer connection encryption for added security full DHT (Distributed Hash Table) implementation for trackerless torrents, including detailed message traffic graphs and customizable event logging advanced bandwidth charting of overall traffic and per-transfer traffic, with separate classification of protocol and file bytes, and with separate classification of outbound traffic for trading and seeding highly flexible bandwidth throttling, including trading/seeding proportion adjustment and adjustable priority for individual transfers and peers bitfield graphs that show the completeness of all downloaded files, what pieces other peers have available, and the health of the overall swarm customizable event logging for each download, and individual event logs for all peers within the swarm expert local file management functions which allow you to move files to a different partition even while downloading is still in progress 100% compatible with the BitTorrent protocol Windows and Linux-GTK native versions available Tixati 3.43 changelog: Several major DHT improvements Added several screening heuristics to filter malicious DHT nodes, prevent Sybil floods Rewrote DHT search algorithms to add support for multi-path lookups Improved DHT logging, more details in several error
