Mac OS X 'Leopard'-related Discussion

Mine said prepared for shipment, but it's been like 14 hours and it's still not being shipped :(!

Just because its prepared doesn't mean its going to ship right away. I'm prepared for winter, but I'm not wearing my winter jacket now or shoveling snow. Have patience, just means your order is ready to go, and likely will be one of the first come Friday.

I know... sorry for my english. I meant, it's prepared for shipment, but it's only standing in a box beside a truck far from here or something like that.

So, we are supposed to get them the next day or something? This is probably in here somewhere, but am I correct in thinking that leopard will preform better than Tiger because it is 64-bit all the way through? I am contemplating upgrading to 2 gigs or RAM but I thought that it is supposed to be even faster.

From Gruber:

Another thing to keep in mind is that the GM version of 10.5.0 definitely contains at least some significant differences from the last version seeded via ADC to developers. Anyone taking screenshots of the Dock on the side of the screen, for example, is going to have to retake them after installing the public release.

Hello.

From Gruber:

Hello.

So, the behavior of the Dock on the side has been changed? This is good news. Maybe people who prefer the Dock on the side by myself will still have control over how Stacks are displayed.

And maybe the hideous Aqua scroll bars will finally be replaced, too.

In the guided tour, they are not replaced. I don't know if they wanted to hide it for now and change the tour video on Friday, but I doubt the scrollbars will change, unfortunately.

But hey, a scrollbar is a scrollbar. It's not the end of the world.

You can bet that tour was made probably a month before.

And maybe the hideous Aqua scroll bars will finally be replaced, too.

Wanna put some money on it? :p

Watching the Guided Tour only made me want Leopard even more. I can't wait until Friday when I'll be at the Apple Store nearby at 6:00.

I wonder if it'll be crowded?... It's not like it's the iPhone launch, but still...

That's what I was wondering, too. I remember the lines for the iPhone launch, and I hope it's going to be nowhere near that! I really want a shirt

You'll only see an increase in performance if you have a 64-bit Mac and run 64-bit applications. Although you might see slight system performance increases (in fact Leopard is apparently faster than Tiger on the same system).
Like every piece of software now a days online it is bound to be leaked sooner or later. I already ordered my copy, but am curious if it has been leaked or not?

The beta builds have been leaked but the GM build has not since Apple has not given it out yet.

    • Looks like the 7.1 is fake effects, can it at least do real 5.1? It says 'virtual 7.1' in all descriptions.
    • You can't, if you didn't notice, it doesn't support surround at all, it's right in the spec list.
    • Hi — I’m always interested in soundcards. Like displays, I just want to know I’m getting as much clean “sonic juice” into my brain as possible as the years take their toll. I’m not entirely sure what to take away from this review, though. It doesn’t really tell me whether the AE‑X is a good product or who it’s actually for. Most of what I’m getting is: there’s a driver to install, here’s what it looks like, and here’s what’s in the box. There’s a lot of emphasis on the SPDIF input. When you mention not needing to switch headphones between console and PC — does that mean the PC has to be powered on just to pass audio through? That seems like a fairly big waste of energy. Is this more something a streamer would use alongside a capture card? How are you testing the sound? (Also, you might want to clarify that you’re using the headphones in wired mode when you mention they’re wireless.) You mention the lack of EMI shielding — how much real‑world difference does that make compared with typical motherboard audio? On multi‑channel: what exactly isn’t supported? Does this mean Windows spatial audio (Dolby Atmos for Headphones, DTS Headphone:X, etc.) won’t work, or just that the card itself doesn’t decode surround formats? And are there any true multi‑driver “surround” headphones left that would even use that? You also highlight support for high‑impedance headphones — but what does that translate to in practice? How does it compare to driving the same headphones from a normal device, and does it make any difference for everyday, lower‑impedance models? In short, who is this card actually targeted at?
    • Yes, THIS is wordart, not the styling that can now be done. Wordart was all about those curvy words, that you could change the path of, like making words go around a circle. I don't think it can be done now, right?
    • Just saw a news report of a Waymo driving into a flooded road.
