suspiria
Weird, every time I press the Browse button in iTunes I expect to get Quick Look. Since it has the same icon. I guess I expect the song playing in a HUD window, or something.... CelticWhisper
Okay...I'm sorry if this counts as thread-jacking, but I searched the thread and didn't find too much about it: I'm wondering how many people have had luck and/or problems installing Leopard, as currently available in Apple stores, on a PowerPC-based system. I read a lot about problems with upgrade installs on MacBooks and Intel-based iMacs, but I haven't read too much about the quirks on PPC systems. Reason being, I have a G5 Quad that I use as my main system for general use as well as all (ALL) of my video editing, creative stuff, classwork, etc. Doing a clean install on this system would be very, very painful, mostly due to reinstalling Final Cut Studio and backing up all the work I have on it. I've held off on Leopard for this reason, since Tiger works just fine on the G5 and there isn't anything in Leopard that seems absofragginlutely amazing in the way of getting the job done. I do have an old 867MHz Quicksilver G4 that I could try Leopard with, to see how it goes, but it wouldn't be a good gauge of performance compared to a quad PPC970. Can anyone with experience in installing Leopard on PPC systems advise here? Is it safe to do an upgrade or archive install of 10.5 on a 64-bit PPC system, or should I wait, or should I bite the bullet and do a fresh install...? Thanks. sanctified Veteran Posted November 10, 2007 Veteran Share Posted November 10, 2007 its me or its a bug with my monitor software? Its reporting that my ppc machine its running 15 degrees (Celcius) colder with leopard than with tiger. That its a huge difference. I'm not sure if it's a bug with your monitoring software, but I've noticed that leopard has made my ppc machine (powerbook G4) run hotter than with Tiger. I'm thinking Leopard's graphical extras are contributing to the temperature increase. NeoXY
Hi Guys Just went over to Leopard, love it, everything seem to be working great except one thing... I can't connect to my PC...I just can't do it. Normally, I just click Connect to server, type in my PCs IP address and OSX add the PC as a network drive. Now, it won't connect no matter what I do... Any ideas anyone? All of my Backups are on that machine. Thanks a million --edit-- ooook? So here I was trying to still connect to that PC server of mine, and all of a sudden realizing it was already connected, and yet OSX forgot to inform me of this... Right...wee little bug I'd say...lol Edited November 11, 2007 by NeoXY Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/521244-mac-os-x-leopard-related-discussion/page/76/#findComment-588984883 Share on other sites
osirisX
There are some people who like to put separate groups of apps in the Dock. But the way of doing it in Tiger was messy. You would create a folder with a custom icon and then name it " .app" and put it in the Dock. Apple has actually given us the ability to do this natively in Leopard with tile types (You can thank stacks for this one). 1. Create a folder called whatever.app which will turn it into in application letting you put it in the apps section of the Dock. 2. Place it where you want in the Dock. 3. Open up com.apple.dock.plist in /Macintosh HD/YourHomeFolder/Library/Preferences/ with Properly List Editor included in the Developer Tools. 4. Open up the persitent-apps section. 5. Find your spacer app. Apps in the Dock are listed as numbers in order starting from the left. The list starts at 0 and does not count Finder. 6. Once you have found your app click the triangle to drop it down. 7. In the tile-type section change the string from "file-tile" to "spacer-tile" (no quotation marks). 8. Save the .plist 9. Open Terminal and type "killall Dock" (no quotation marks). When the Dock restarts it will look something like this: The spacer tile no longer needs the original file that we created in step 1 (It does this because the Dock no longer references it's GUID). So you can add the file back in to create more spacer tiles or just delete it if you don't need it anymore. The spacer tile also has no label but does have the right click menu item "Remove from Dock" (It does this because the Dock removes all the info related to it). You can even click on the desktop in the spacer tile section. These are the tile types present in the Dock strings: file-tile: Used for apps and files added to the Dock. folder-tile: Used for a folder added to the Dock that has no files inside it. Has no right click navigation though. directory-tile: Turns a folder full of files into a Stack. dashboard-tile: Changes any file into the Dashboard icon. recents-tile: Creates a stack based on the Recent Items menu. It includes: Recent Applications, Recent Documents, Recent Servers, Favorite Volumes and Favorite Items. spacer-tile: Creates a blank space in the Dock where it is. There are other tile types present but I haven't been able to get them to do anything: dockiling-tile filestack-tile datadirectory-tile Edited November 11, 2007 by osirisX Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/521244-mac-os-x-leopard-related-discussion/page/76/#findComment-588985411 Share on other sites

giga Veteran Posted November 12, 2007 Veteran Share Posted November 12, 2007 I've finally switched to Path Finder. Finder.app seems like a child's toy now after this. :o Quicklook is now in the latest version and it even supports FINALLY "reveal file in finder" for other applications. Gosh Apple, get this developer on board now! Smart sorting is such a breath of fresh air. No more headaches trying to find my folders. And TABS and DROP STACK! THANK YOU GOD. "Reveal in Finder" is an awesome feature, glad to see it was finally added. But my biggest problem is that I always seem to forget to launch Path Finder, I always click on the Finder icon instead. Is there a way to hide the Finder icon from the Dock completely, so that I just have Path Finder in the top position?
