it doesn't look like a fake to me, but on the other hand, I couldn't see MS making a new 360, simply because it would annoy current owners. Saying that, sony (PS2 and PSone) and nintendo (DS, the various gameboys) have done it before so, who knows.

You fail to see my logic on current Xbox 360 owners getting screwed if MS after less than 18 months of launch later makes a major update to the system? OK then... :huh: We would be getting screwed because the reality would set in that we bought an incomplete product that was rushed out to the consumer in order to beat the other systems to market and paid a premium for it as well in the hopes that it would solidify a large user base and draw consumers away from PS2/upcoming PS3 and Nintendo Wii.

If you bought a XBox360 solely in the hopes that it'd win the "console war", you bought it for the wrong reason. That's not Microsoft's fault.

The product also promoting Xbox Live for a fee and subsequent profits from Live and its subsidiary services such as Market points and Arcade. All of which is being paid for by the 7 to 10 million 'early adopters' who are also consider to be the 'hardcore' gamers. Its all quite simple Marketing and Sales for a large corporation. At the price point its at, loyal customers, i.e. early adopters are going to be angered and put off which will result in loss of sales with games and future products. Microsoft is not that dumb.

Are you suggesting that current owners will stop buying games, or stop their Live subscriptions, because someone out there will have a "nicer" Xbox than them?

Speaking of insinuating anything, your argument is overly illogical, your making huge presumptions about what i said. I never said anything about Xbox 3 and hardcore gamers thoughts about a future system. Let me overly simplify for you what i said previously :yes: . Microsofts actions now with regards to an upgraded Xbox 360 console, assuming it came in at the same price point of $399, with the HDMI and 120GB HD, would be bad for long term business. The people who bought early would get PO'd and then that would directly impact the sale of future goods and services from MS/Xbox/Xbox Live. But if MS holds off for a while, until the mid product life cycle, i.e. roughly Xmas 2008, then launched an upgrade, it would be more expected and understood, thereby sitting better with the xbox community. Also at about year 3 early adopters would be at a point where they would want/need a second or replacement xbox 360. This business model holds true for almost all electronics products. Every joe blow consumer knows that what you buy today will have an updated version the moment you get it home. It stimulates sales. But you don't want to **** off joe consumer when the client base is very niche in an already niche market dominated by another company.

This all assumes that the Xbox consumer base does what you think it will, which is protest Microsoft and stop giving them their money. Somehow, I think the "hardcore" gamers will get over it. And if these gamers are so "hardcore", why wouldn't they just sell their current 360s and buy new ones when they come out, regardless of whether it's 2007 and 2008. You're making a lot of assumptions about how people will react.

i dont recall microsoft ever screwing anybody like this would, i'm pretty sure they will think this one through.

my logic is I just bought my xbox 360 a week ago, love it, this thing comes out in a few months, ps3's will be widely availible, sell my 360 and get a v2 or get a ps3 which may being doing great by that point..

Stupid? Everyone? What about the people who bought it after the launch? What about people who got theirs in 2006? What about the people who got it in January?

Another thing. The only thing HDMI is going to give you over component is:

- 1080p vs 720p or 1080i

- one cable instead of 4 or 5

How many of you people biatching and moaning own 1080p capable TVs? Those are the ONLY people that will be able to benefit at all from an HDMI connection vs a component connection. And don't go on about image quality. The difference is so negligible almost no one can tell the difference. And if you can, you'd probably trade up for a new 360 anyway, without complaint.

I'm more for the cooler and quiet unit than a HDMI cable.

The 120gb HDD is bs. There may be an upgrade in size, but not that substantial. I suspect 60gb or there about, to compete with the PS3.

Console makers should not be allowed to change the design/specs of their models months or years after their launch unless they are willing to trade the original consoles for them. I would have loved microsoft to have delayed the launch so that they could have put in the 65nm chips so that it would run quieter and cooler.

I think it was obvious they had done that anyway. And who can blame them with the PS3 to launch in march (at that time, we now know different).

It's no secret that the Xbox 360 was rushed to the market. This is also one of the reasons the Xbox 360 was not shipped with a HDMI output - simply because HDCP chips were impossible to buy in big shipments at that time.

It would only be natural for Microsoft to respond with some improvements now that the PS3 has launched. HDMI (1080p, Full HD) capability being one of the best selling points. A bigger HDD is also a needed to be competitive since the PS3 is sold in 20gb/60gb versions while the X360 is sold in 0gb/20gb versions. 120GB sounds like too much though, it would be more natural if the new X360 core system would be shipped with a 20gb drive, while the premium would be shipped with a 60gb drive and WiFi capability out-of-the-box.

Nope, I thought about hanging on until the 65mm ones are released but it takes about 6 months for the new machines to filter through the channel. Now they've been delayed until Q3 2007 so probably won't be until early 08 that they appear in Europe

I don't think many ppl are concerned over the HDMI as they are about the HDD. But yeah, I do have a 1080p set. It has an HDMI which I could use but component 1080i deinterlaced looks fine as of now.

Would you have said the same in November 2005? What if MS came out in October and said, "We are going to delay the debut of the XBox360 for 18 months so that we can release a product that doesn't make quite as much noise and runs a bit cooler.

Sony have been guilty of doing the same thing, twice infact with the PS1 and PS2.

HDMI alone would not let you feed the digital audio signal in to a decoder to get dolby digital or any other streams which are sent.

You need to read up on how HDMI Works. HDMI sends both digital and analog audio. You need to run the HDMI into a surround sound receiver and it will decode Dolby Digital, DTS, ETC... If you don't have a surround sound receiver with an HDMI input then Microsoft will probably sell a special HDMI cable that breaks out the digital signal into toslink connector, just like on the VGA and component cable.

I'm not concerned about it being detached, only if it's bundled. If they were to increase the size by 6x and charge the same price, I would be pretty mad.
