The worst MacWorld ?

Seriously, how often does Microsoft take Apple ads or logos and light them on fire?

Well, I don't know if you remember it but when Microsoft was starting on the Zune and they made those really strange ads, one showed a large bird and a small bird (representing the iPod and the Zune, respectively) and the large bird burst into flames. Not that it's the same thing, and I'm not disagreeing with you at all, but I just thought I'd mention it.

Time to switch to linux. Apple Computers has become Apple.... Just like every other company out there. Well not true entierly I'm just horribly disappointed. They used to actually release useful stuff at these events and now they're just interested in the media.

"People who have these types of phones are use to paying this amount.. it's not for everyone."

Definately not. Which is weird because with iPod, Apple wanted to gear it to "everyone". With the iPhone they must realize its not affordable or even appealing to everyone. I wonder why they are targetting such a smaller audience with the iPhone.

A very bad MacWorld. Besides the iPhone and AppleTV - neither of which really interests me - I expected and/or wanted to hear -

- specific 10.5 release date set inc system reqs

- iwork/ilife 07

- redesigned mighty mouse

- hardware boosts to mac line

- new iSight

- 10.4.9 in software update

I was very excited to hear about iphone and apple tv but really wanted to also hear about iwork/ilife 07 and the updated mac hardware line. I am purchasing a new Mac once they bring out the new line, so I guess I am waiting a while longer.

Yeah it's on schedule now, how many times was it delayed?

It was officially delayed three times, although no specific date was ever publicly announced. Even so, they did do a complete restart in there too. So a delay would be expected with a complete restart. It still would have been nice for Jobs to give us some kind of update.

I was actually considering going with a MacBook Pro, hoping that we'd get a release time or at least a time frame for Leopard, but with no mention of Leopard at all, I'm going with a Windows Vista powered notebook for sure now. (unless a time frame is announced before Vista is released--which if there was a mention at Macworld about it, I doubt we'll hear anything about it in the next 20 days).

The phone is OK in my opinion not revolutionary.

Typing emails on a small touch screen really sucks -- so in a way its also a step back.

My brother brought a mobile phone last year which does everything this does and includes GPS + a sliding keyboard but less ram. I will guess there will be new mobile phones with more ram by mid-year.

What I find odd about making the entire keynote about the iPhone is that it's obviously earlier than Apple would have liked to talk about the iPhone, Jobs said it himself, they knew it was going to get leaked when FCC tested it, they figured the news should come from Apple.

So why not do the entire beginning of the keynote the same, same with Apple TV, then say "well, you're going to need a good OS to serve all that media from.." Make the meat of the show about Leopard..

... do a "one more thing" at the end and show off the iPhone a bit and leave the rest of the explaining to the website.

There are two reasonable explanations that I can think of and one of them is pretty depressing.

1) The one we're all hoping for is that Leopard will be done soon, like March soon, and they'll be holding a special event to show it off. I'm sorry but you don't show it off first at the 2006 WWDC, say Spring 2007 then wait till the NEXT WWDC just to TALK about it next. We can only hope the event is in a few weeks.

2) Apple had a lot of pressure from... **cough** outside.. forces to debut the iPhone early, and strong. I'm thinking not only Cingular, but Yahoo. You can basically count any huge corporation that has any kind of technology banking on this phone. Yahoo is the most like candidate with their movement to IMAP. It may not seem big to you and me, but I bet it is over at Yahoo. And Cingular.. well don't even get me started on that guy.

I thought the keynote was awesome I didn't have high expectations I really just wanted to see the iPhone and it did look pretty amazing I think this is the first time that the final product blows all the rumours out of the water no one could even make up a rumour that included those features it was just so good.

Can't wait for June!

I'm not sure how anyone can be disappointed by the iPhone or Appltv. For the money the iPhone is amazing - is there any other phone that can do everything that it can do? And I mean everything, including the screen size, storage space, and all of it's abilities? I've seen Treo's, Palm Pilots, PDA's, etc, and none of them have the capabilities that the iPhone has. And they all usually run, what, about $300-400 (without a contract or renewal)? Maybe a little more depending on the tech? Nah, the iPhone has them all beat. Is it expensive? Yes, it is, but even without the phone capabilities it makes an incredible mulitmedia toy that also beats any previous iPods (well, except for storage capabilities)

And as far as Leopard goes, if they are going through a change in GUI (as stated in recent Apple forums) then there wasn't much of a chance to show off Leopard or any of the iLife applications. I'm sure this will come later at another event - it has to. For Apple to show off Leopard as it is right now would be ridiculous if the speculation of a new GUI is true.

How did you guys expect updated hardware? All the lines were just updated. Usually, they give an 8 month interval between each upgrade, the Mac Pro is 5 months old, give them a break.

The new iPhone is a nice preview of the upcoming iPod... actually, I think it became the new iPod nano (as of June), but it's a bit expensive lol

The lack of iLife, iWork and Leopard kills me. I wanted TV displays too, but oh well.

Apple's Big Product is the iphone.

The hardware lines were *just* updated. What did you want to see? A 24-core processor????

Leopard is on the way, but it wasn't shown. Apple *knows* they didn't show off Leopard. I think they had pretty good reasons. If you want to know what they are, call them.

Otherwise, get over it.

Even if Apple did refresh the hardware, they could have added :

1) A new iPod with the same display as the iPhone, but only for music/video/photo with a HDD of 40 / 80 Gig.

2) Mac Mini with a Core2 Duo

3) Mac Pro with the new Intel QuadCore CPU

4) Upgraded display, removing the 20,23 inch, replace them with 22, 24 inch and lower the cost. Maybe a updated 30 inch display. Apple LCD seriously cost too much.

Those are all things that people where wishing for. Those are all things that Apple could have done with no problem.

    • Those are some popular multiplayer games. But hardly "all". Just those that don't work on Linux currently due to specific anti-cheat implementations. I think it's also fair to point out the literally thousands of games that don't work on the PS5. And it's not locked at 1080p. That's the default, which you can change.
    • Ubuntu Livepatch arrives on Arm64 to eliminate system reboots for kernel updates by Paul Hill Canonical has just announced that its Livepatch service now supports computers with Arm64 processors. For those who are not familiar, Livepatch allows users to apply important kernel updates without any service interruption or rebooting. While home users will benefit from this, it’s even more important for critical machines that absolutely should not be going offline at all. The feature is available as part of Ubuntu Core 26 for Arm64 and Ubuntu Core 20 and onwards for AMD64. According to Canonical, this will improve the security of systems that aren’t security-maintained daily or weekly, and it helps organizations work towards Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) compliance. If you are familiar with Ubuntu, you probably know that most packages can be updated without having to restart the system. There is one big exception to this, and that’s the kernel; it typically requires you to reload the system to boot into the new kernel. With Livepatch, Canonical has done something so that you don’t need to restart to begin using the new kernel. Aside from Ubuntu Core 26, users with Arm64 chips running Ubuntu 26.04 LTS can also use Livepatch. If you want to learn more about Livepatch, check out its product page. There, you can also find a button to join Ubuntu Pro (it’s free for several home devices) so that you can enable Livepatch. By linking your computer to Ubuntu Pro, you will also extend the life of your Ubuntu install from five years to ten years. If you are running Ubuntu, let us know in the comments if you have been looking forward to this feature on your ARM-based computer. If you’ve had a compatible AMD64 machine for a while and never used this feature, let us know why in the comments!
    • Meta announces a major leadership change at WhatsApp by Pradeep Viswanathan Meta has announced a major leadership change at WhatsApp, with Will Cathcart stepping down after seven years of leading the world's largest messaging platform. CRED CEO and founder Kunal Shah will take over as the next global head of WhatsApp. CRED is an Indian fintech company focused on creditworthy consumers. As part of the transition, Meta is also making a minority investment in CRED through its Series H funding round. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Will Cathcart will remain at Meta and move into a new role focused on building new products from the ground up. Cathcart led WhatsApp during a major growth phase, helping the app reach more than 3 billion users worldwide. He also played a key role in expanding WhatsApp’s business offerings while keeping privacy and end-to-end encryption central to the product. Meta’s Chief Product Officer, Chris Cox, said Kunal Shah was selected after a search for a leader who understands WhatsApp’s global scale and future potential. In a leaked internal memo, Cox described Shah as a “serial founder” and one of India’s most respected entrepreneurs, adding that he brings “entrepreneurial energy” and a strong product mindset to the role. As part of the Series H funding round, CRED is raising ₹8,550 crore, or about $900 million, in a round led by Meta. The funding values CRED at ₹43,239 crore, or about $4.5 billion, on a post-money basis. It is important to note that this investment will not give Meta access to CRED customer information. Kunal posted the following on X regarding his new role at Meta: Although Kunal Shah will be stepping away from his operating role as CRED CEO, he will retain his personal shareholding in the company.
    • It wouldn't be hard for me to turn off my TV, if I had one. For one thing, I never scroll Instagram. The only reason I have an account is because Meta created one when it merged the account systems for its various services.
