Puzzle Box 4

Recommended Posts

I was doing a little research on the whole Sparta LA find and "Sparta" was the windows codename for Windows for Workgroups 3.11. I am still looking into it but I seem to remember alot of news comparing the release of Vista to that of 3.11. Just a thought. I am probably on a wild goose chase but it may turn into something.

It really depends if you use Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinates or not to do

your calculations, remember that longitude and latitude are "angular" coordinates.

Cheers

Well Confusio, I'm confused. No, just tired after the pre-game, the four boxes, and the meta puzzle. I submitted an answer yesterday, but had to rethink because of the curvature of the Earth, the CA next to the Mystery Spot, etc. Hopefully I got it right, but it not, hopefully someone else here did.

Cheers & go Team Neowin!

Men, this last riddle is a pain in the cord plug, It's very clever but it has too many variables to be consistent enough

to provide a concrete answer, if you use math to calculate the lat/long of each point it really depends on what

"model" of earth these guys used, if there is no math involved we don't have a damn clue of what map tool they

used to get the distances.

If you use nautical miles you get a different result than if you use statute miles, so I'm starting to think that may be

the intermediate points are not relevant, probably this folks picked up some places including the final destination,

draw some lines between the points and took the equivalent mileage of those lines and that's what we see on

the web page. So backtracing from the distances and trying to find the "exact" point given that they are giving

the distances with a precision of a 1/100th of a mile without knowing what tool/process they used to get the

distances, finding the name for each point will be an extremely daunting task.

Also what are the "exact" coordinates in any coordinate system of the starting point, I already found close to 10

different ones.

I'm starting to feel that I'm loosing my time with this.

Just my humble opinion.

Cheers

Anyone know when we have to use up our points to enter the contest for all the prizes???

They already have your information from your account and your points, is all in their servers.

I guess at some moment they will make something like 1 point = 1 ticket and then a random

draw of a ticket to pick who wins the prizes, (hope they don't use the same tool that they

used for the last riddle :-) ).

Cheers

Do you really want your name printed on that chip, Conf.? lol...This is what I think: They used regular ground miles. thats No. 1. No. 2: the software they used..or the earth model...remember this is intended for all public. I am confident they used the simplest LIVE MAPS model. Try that :) ...tell me what u get, so i dont have to do it lol.....

LOLOL mate...hope not. Well thus far this game has been fun. I will go home and run it all in my FASTER computer and watch the videos and see all the clues. The fact that she seperates the sentence "what, is, my, name," ..is odd...If she is trying to tell us that her name has four words ..would be tooooooooooooo naive and simple (come on..look at some of these puzzles!) ...so THAT probably cant be it. So what is? we already know her name. Its either her REAL name (w/e it is, from Memoirs of Geisha, blah i forgot) or her Lorelei Kitsune...lol so WHAT NOW???

No as I said before I don't give a damn about the name on the chip, I just want to find a

reasonable solution to the riddle.

I'll try with Live maps (grrrrrr)

Meanwhile you can try the following coordinates 37 19' 54.66" N, 122 1' 50.70" W

Got this from wiki - sure you have all seen it... don't know if it helps, credit to name at bottom.

I used Mystery Spot, CA as starting point, and did the distances as listed above. Below are my results. (With lat/lon listings).

Mystery Spot, CA

37 01' 01.15" N

122 00' 09.83" W

5874.61 miles east to:

Atardecer en Donana (or Matalascanas), Spain

37 01' 01.15" N

6 33' 39.24" W

1049.62 north to:

Bridgetown (or Kilmore), Ireland (Wexford county?)

52 13' 05.58" N

6 33' 39.24" W

1161.79 east to:

Warsaw, Poland

52 13' 05.58" N

20 59' 39.67" E

153.48 south to:

Tarnow, Poland

49 59' 43.93" N

20 59' 39.67" E

543.55 west to:

Dietzbach (or Dreieich), Germany

49 59' 43.93" N

8 46' 1.98" E

652.2 south to:

Bonnanaro, Sardinia, Italy

40 32' 26.86" N

8 46' 1.98" E

4909.96 west to:

Blandinsville, IL

40 32' 26.86" N

90 50' 7.70" W

548.42 south to:

Middle of nowhere in Mississippi

32 34' 42.38" N

90 50' 7.69" W

Good luck figuring any of that out. All the distances and locations found using Google Earth. (Has a ruler which lets you see distance as you move around the globe)

On a lighter note, if you pull lines from one spot to another it seems to spell IP...

Now I have

Mystery Spot, CA

Seville, Spain

Dundalk, Ireland

Sajzy, Poland

Hordziesz, Poland

Vahle, Germany,

Prunete, Corsica

Flugstad, Iowa

Pine Ridge, Arkansas

Hmm... Arkansas or Mississippi :s What we need is something that makes the line straight :D I'll try to figure out some more coordinate math maybe...

Yes her real name is Minae Noji, she was in that movie and has a soap opera gig in General Hospital, we found

out about it because one neowinan's wife was watching tv and he (credits to Maximus84) recognized her.

Who in hell would have imagined a bunch of geeks watching General Hospital !! hehe

Also I don't know how much thinking to put on the name thing, if the answer is just the personal name for

each sister, excuse my french :-) that would be such a stupid final for an excellent and challenging game

that had hundreds of folks around the world working together.

Even if the names theory is correct, and as we believe the LOKI girls were born in Japan, I have a very

difficult time to accept that anybody in Japan will name his/her daughter "Odessa", I may be way off so if

some folks from Japan want to contribute you are mostly welcomed, but as far as I know it's customary

in Japan to use names that have a "meaning" and in some cases names if in Kanji are taken from an

"official" list and there are rules that govern how the names are used, etc. (wikipedia has a great page

if you search for japanse names), then are we thinking too deep ?

The "what, is, my, name" for me looks more like the answer is four words.

Later, got to run now ...

Cheers
