New Alphablended Os X Cursor Set In Xp Format!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just found out a way to make XP's own alphablended cursors, (smooth and shadowed rainbow of death) so without further adieu ;):

OS X Cursors for Windows XP

I'm sure most of you know how to change your cursors by now, but in case you dont:

1. Open up Control Panel

2. Select Mouse Properties

3. Select "Pointer" tab

4. Select the cursor you want to change from the list

5. Click "Browse" and search for where ever you extracted the cursors too

6. Select the cursor you want (they are all named accordingly) Hit open, and repeat.

Enjoy!

Oh and as a cool side note. These Cursors dont affect java or quicktime, no erratic flashing!

*Updated* Softer Shadows (looks better now imo)

Damn there goes my 1337 status  ;)

awesome cursors!!!!!!

I have a little request, if you don't mind :)

Would it possible to move the WorkinginBackground.ani cursor to the top leftmost pixel, where the "hot spot" is currently located? As it is right now, the cursor is about 2 pixels below and to the right of the hotspot. Not a big deal, except that when changing from standard cursor to working in background, there is a 2 pixel shift in the location of the cursor on the screen. Again, not a huge problem, except that if you had the cursor on a particular button (for example, the Close button in IE, while viewing a questionable website while your wife was home) and you were patiently waiting for the page to finish loading (workinginbackground.ani) and then as soon as the page finishes loading (back to NormalSelect.cur) it jumps two pixels (off IE's Close button) ... Well, sometimes this can be a problem. Instead of the cursor being on the Close button, it is suddently on the Maximise button because it shifted two pixels from workinginbackground.ani to NormalSelect.cur ... :D

Anyway, if you could move the .ani over and up a couple of pixels, to where the hotspot is, that would be awesome. I would do it myself except that GIF Movie Gear doesn't handle transparencies in .ani's, and neither does Animator (MA5.5) ...

thanks a million, I hate to pick on little trivial things but I really dig on these cursors and would LOVE them to be absolutely perfect ... (IMO)

:D

ok sorry for bothering you, but I jsut wanted to say that I figured out how to edit these things in IconForge and took care of my little issue myself :)

In case you're interested, I simply set the hotspot for the WorkingInBackground.ani to x=2,y=2 ... Perfect transition now!! I also changed the hotspot for the two Busy.ani'som x=16,y=16 to x=10, y=10 ... makes the change from/to NormalSelect.cur a little bit smoother.

:D

Thanks again for these cursors man, they're really cool!!!!!!

is there a certain place to keep these extracted files?

Well, you could just put them in your C:\WINDOWS\Cursors directory ...

I also added a "1" to each file name (for example "1 Alternate Select.cur", "1 Busy.ani" etc) so that these cursors show up first when I'm browsing for cursors through the Control Panel|Mouse process ...

    • Yes while it's still a great browser it seems bloated more with each update by things I'm not the least interested in
    • We now know why Nvidia blocked yet another review, the new RTX 5050 is apparently terrible by Sayan Sen With its latest RTX 5000 series of GPUs, Nvidia has not been transparent with how its cards perform. The company did not ship review drivers for the RTX 5060 on launch day and has repeated the same deed with the new RTX 5050 as well. For those who may not have followed, Nvidia unveiled the GeForce RTX 5050 last month for $249 and released the Game Ready driver for the card this month with version 576.88. As such, the RTX 5050 has now been tested by Korean site Quasar Zone where the GPU has been compared against other cards that are priced around that same bracket. The site has found that Nvidia's new entry-level offering is worse than Intel's Arc B580, a card that launched around six months ago for the same price. As you can see in the image above, the Arc B580 was slightly faster on average. The biggest gap between the two was on Path of Exile 2. Another point in favor of the Arc GPU is that it has 12 Gigs of video memory whereas the RTX 5050 only has 8 GB. The 5050 was also pitted against Nvidia's last gen RTX 4060 as well as AMD's RX 7600, both of which are also 8 Gig cards. The 7600 is often found at around $250 these days while the RTX 4060 frequents around $275. The RTX 5050 is essentially neck and neck with the 4060 and is ever so slightly faster than the RX 7600. Once again this just highlights that Nvidia is essentially giving the same kind of performance that Intel and AMD GPUs have provided since last year or so. In fact, if we consider the Radeon RX 6600 and 6650 XT GPUs, which have been available for around $180 to $220 in the past, it becomes clearer just how bad of a value the RTX 5050 is as those 6000 series AMD cards probably get pretty close to the 5050 in rasterization throughput. Chances of something like "Fine Wine" are also slim given that the RTX 5050 just does not seem to have the hardware resources to pull off something like that later in this lifespan. If anything, we are more likely to see that happen from the Intel B580 GPU or AMD's $299 RX 9060 (there is already evidence of that). Source and images: Quasar Zone
