ScottKin
Other than your last line (which I removed), that's the exact reason I got a mac. I did not want to have to build my system. I don't have time, nor do I care. I clicked "order" on apple.com, and in a few days it was at my house. I plugged it in and it worked. That's what I want. Your comment only makes sense if you've never heard of Dell, Gateway, FalconNorthwest, Hewlett-Packard, or the dozens of other PC manufacturers & Resellers that you can order pre-built systems. I'm pretty sure that you've heard of these companies at some point or another, unless you've been living in a cave for the past 15 years. I build systems for my friends as a hobby and charge them a reasonable & fair price - which is exactly what those other companies provide. --ScottKin Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/550272-bye-bye-mac/page/2/#findComment-588441223 Share on other sites
baskingridge
... and you can't do that with a PC manufacturer? Apparently he can't, or he's good at hiding his true intentions  PC > Mac, always was, always will be. Vice
I use a Desktop Windows machine and a Macintosh Laptop. I think personally the desktop Macs are way overpriced for what they offer. iMac: It's just not upgradeable. You can't stick more storage into it without removing the drive that is already in there. It uses a Laptop CPU in a Desktop system, what is the point of that other than Apple saving on enclosure size power and noise? They still charge desktop prices for it however. the GPU isn't upgradeable and it isn't fast. You cant buy a better monitor for it as it has one built in, and you cant change the Optical drive for a Bluray or HD-DVD drive without voiding the warranty (and really what drives even fit). It's just a bad machine, it's like buying a Laptop without any of the benefits of a Laptop. Mac Pro: Grossly overpriced for the power it offers, they don't innovate the case enough to warrant such a high price tag, it only has software RAID & 4 HD's maximum. The only good thing about this machine is that you can upgrade the Woodcrests to Clovertowns and make it a Octo-Core Mac. That and the pull out RAM side-boards, which are pretty great. Again this machine at stock comes with a 7300GT, that GPU is just so much slower than what you get in competitive systems, everyone keeps saying "get a Mac and dual boot windows to game!" well I can't play any decent games on my 20" ACD with a 7300GT, and if you put a normal windows GPU in there you get a black screen from within Mac OS X which defeats the easeyness of a dual boot machine. The only Macs I think are decent value are the MacBook Pro's as they offer the MagSafe connector the built in iSight they have a decent enough laptop GPU run passively for the most part and have really nice displays and enclosures. The Mac desktops on the other hand as I said are just useless non-upgradeable overpriced bricks. btw I love my 17" MacBook Pro and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I am just an honest multi-OS user and I can say when something sucks. macro
PC > Mac, always was, always will be. One doesn't have to be better than the other, it depends on your uses. The average Joe who doesn't play video games on their computer and likes a stylish computer that just works and no hassle with hardware problems and virus can use a Mac and be happy. At the same time the hardcores like to build their own system and buy new components all the time for maximum performance, they go for PC's. It's not that hard you guys, to each his own. azz0r_wugg
There is no reason to buy a PC nowadays. You get the benefit of Mac OS X & u can run XP or Vista (don't know about the Mac drivers). Plus u get a beautiful machine. ...and in 3 years time your systems old, can't run Linux and instead of buying a new mobo+processor, you have to buy a whole new mac. Please, get real. mattmatik
I bought a MacBook this go around after my self-built desktop kept giving me fits. I used to love building my PCs and solving issues for family and friends but now I guess I'm at the point where I just don't want to spend the time on it anymore. I don't game on the computer anymore, either, preferring my 360. As has been stated previously, it depends on the user and what exactly they want out of it. And personally, I don't agree with the whole "you have to buy a new Mac in 3 years". Actually, you don't. Unless you need specific features, you can easily use a Mac for about 5 years. There are people still running 10.2. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/550272-bye-bye-mac/page/2/#findComment-588441635 Share on other sites
