Hardly innovation...

IBM ThinkPad Accelerometer, aka "Active Protection System"

Announced in November 2003; Probably shipped in 2004 March

Other than your last line (which I removed), that's the exact reason I got a mac. I did not want to have to build my system. I don't have time, nor do I care. I clicked "order" on apple.com, and in a few days it was at my house. I plugged it in and it worked. That's what I want.

Your comment only makes sense if you've never heard of Dell, Gateway, FalconNorthwest, Hewlett-Packard, or the dozens of other PC manufacturers & Resellers that you can order pre-built systems.

I'm pretty sure that you've heard of these companies at some point or another, unless you've been living in a cave for the past 15 years. I build systems for my friends as a hobby and charge them a reasonable & fair price - which is exactly what those other companies provide.

I use a Desktop Windows machine and a Macintosh Laptop. I think personally the desktop Macs are way overpriced for what they offer.

iMac: It's just not upgradeable. You can't stick more storage into it without removing the drive that is already in there. It uses a Laptop CPU in a Desktop system, what is the point of that other than Apple saving on enclosure size power and noise? They still charge desktop prices for it however. the GPU isn't upgradeable and it isn't fast. You cant buy a better monitor for it as it has one built in, and you cant change the Optical drive for a Bluray or HD-DVD drive without voiding the warranty (and really what drives even fit). It's just a bad machine, it's like buying a Laptop without any of the benefits of a Laptop.

Mac Pro: Grossly overpriced for the power it offers, they don't innovate the case enough to warrant such a high price tag, it only has software RAID & 4 HD's maximum. The only good thing about this machine is that you can upgrade the Woodcrests to Clovertowns and make it a Octo-Core Mac. That and the pull out RAM side-boards, which are pretty great. Again this machine at stock comes with a 7300GT, that GPU is just so much slower than what you get in competitive systems, everyone keeps saying "get a Mac and dual boot windows to game!" well I can't play any decent games on my 20" ACD with a 7300GT, and if you put a normal windows GPU in there you get a black screen from within Mac OS X which defeats the easeyness of a dual boot machine.

The only Macs I think are decent value are the MacBook Pro's as they offer the MagSafe connector the built in iSight they have a decent enough laptop GPU run passively for the most part and have really nice displays and enclosures. The Mac desktops on the other hand as I said are just useless non-upgradeable overpriced bricks. btw I love my 17" MacBook Pro and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I am just an honest multi-OS user and I can say when something sucks.

PC > Mac, always was, always will be.

One doesn't have to be better than the other, it depends on your uses. The average Joe who doesn't play video games on their computer and likes a stylish computer that just works and no hassle with hardware problems and virus can use a Mac and be happy. At the same time the hardcores like to build their own system and buy new components all the time for maximum performance, they go for PC's. It's not that hard you guys, to each his own.

There is no reason to buy a PC nowadays. You get the benefit of Mac OS X & u can run XP or Vista (don't know about the Mac drivers). Plus u get a beautiful machine.

...and in 3 years time your systems old, can't run Linux and instead of buying a new mobo+processor, you have to buy a whole new mac.

Please, get real.

Can't run Linux? Uh, last I checked, there were both PowerPC and x86 versions of most Linux distros.

once a mac hater, always a mac hater.

stop drinking so much haterade, people...

if this were a swamp, you'd be an allihater...

sure, come on up. take the elehater...

No I used to be a mac hater too, I used Windows since 3.11 up until XP, then I tried OSX86 and ended up buying a Mac shortly afterwards :)

I could almost guarantee that any mac hater hasn't spent even 10 minutes on a Mac running OS X.

If they have, then they ain't hating anymore.

I am a mac hater, I had a mac mini, used it for 60days.. it was great until it decided not to boot, I called Apple support and they denied all responsibility and hung up on me cause I did not have AppleCare. $900 in 60days down the drain... that would **** anyone off.

Screw a mac.. get a Tablet!

:s You should've just went to an Apple Store or called again because all macs have a 1 year warranty. Sounds like you just got someone who had a bad day on the other line.

Your claims are dubious but if you give up after they hang up on you once then don't ever call any other customer service number again because you need to put more effort in.

You actually got me to laugh out loud with that one...

I own a mac mini, I still don't like macs. I run Ubuntu on it because I can't stand OSX. Please don't make silly comments like you just did

But I thought Macs "just work"

I bought a MacBook this go around after my self-built desktop kept giving me fits. I used to love building my PCs and solving issues for family and friends but now I guess I'm at the point where I just don't want to spend the time on it anymore. I don't game on the computer anymore, either, preferring my 360.

As has been stated previously, it depends on the user and what exactly they want out of it. And personally, I don't agree with the whole "you have to buy a new Mac in 3 years". Actually, you don't. Unless you need specific features, you can easily use a Mac for about 5 years. There are people still running 10.2.

Yeah, and anyone who has a system that is 3 years old has to spend for upgrades in order to run Vista. That's a reality.

My bull**** sensor has gone into overdrive!

1 year warranty... ever care to think about ringing an apple reseller for help and advice, or even walking into an apple store/ reseller store?

    • Limited time Prime Day deal cuts price of this Hisense 65" 4K smart TV in half by Ivan Jenic It’s Amazon Prime Day, and brands are offering great deals to consumers. One of the best deals of the day is definitely this Hisense 65" U7, which is currently $799.99 on Amazon, down from $1,499.99. That's nearly 50% off and $700 saved on this feature-packed 4K TV (purchase link down below). The U7 uses Mini-LED backlighting with up to 3,000 local dimming zones and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness. That means blacks are truly deep and highlights are punchy enough to hold up even in bright rooms. The screen is covered with a dual-layer anti-reflection coating, which prevents the afternoon overhead lights from washing the picture. For gaming, the native 165Hz refresh rate and VRR 330 support make this one a great TV option for PS5 and Xbox Series X. The TV even features a native game mode, which should help minimize the input lag for a better gaming experience. Audio is handled by a 2.1.2 channel system tuned by Devialet, which is a notable partnership for a TV at this price. Additionally, Dolby Vision IQ, Dolby Atmos, and IMAX Enhanced are all supported. It runs Fire TV with Alexa+ built in. So, if you’re looking for a sharp, large screen to watch the World Cup on, the U7 at this price is definitely an attractive option. Speaking of which, Hisense is the official sponsor of the World Cup, which should mean absolutely nothing to you, and isn’t the reason why you should by this TV. The reason why you should buy it is that it’s “la bella televisione, HDTV-compatible, beautiful,” and available at half the price. • Re: Capitalism. It's just 1 of dozens of economic models currently-adopted worldwide; most national models separate money from politics thereby limiting the influence wealth carries over the economy (due to limited tentacles wealth politics has over the broader economy). The "American model" of unfettered financial influence should NOT be the variant of pure capitalism adopted worldwide. More regulations formulated within this variant is effectively useless due to the misalignment between regulatory objectives and fundamental influence wealth politics carry over the market. Re: enough money. Without constraining the breadth/depth/scope/scale that any measure of money/wealth can have within a market, there will always inherently be those who have "enough money" and those who do not. Those without "enough money" will always lose -- regardless if a bedroom DJ, indie developer, or million-dollar corporation going against a billion-dollar mega-corporation. The evil is the absence of guardrails against the influence of wealth; not the mere existence of wealth. Re: dragged through the courts. The liberalist nature of litigation does not exclude anyone, anywhere, for any reason for getting dragged through the courts. Rather than formalize remediation pathways for various perceived ills, everything is left up to flawed interpretations... and this is where a litigation-averse community fails to thrive (thus a losing proposition when dragged to courts). Everyone should have more protections and clear remediation strategies! Going to an alternate remediation arbitration is OK so long as the case review and remediation processes are clear and transparent. For corporations, hit them where it hurts: automatic financial penalties. (PS: This is where corporate risk management strategies would do well to behave more ethically.) Overall, failure to truly shake-up the incentive core and regulatory extremities of the economic market will necessarily mean that all other actions are simply applying lipstick on a pig. Change begins from the inside. Is the root cause of the problem that a majority of consumers within a market goes for Option Brand-name versus Option Indie? Or that brand-name is spending foreign money to control domestic markets? Or that money is the objective measure for success across all walks of life? Or that deep pockets dictate the moral and ethical rights/wrongs of entire societies? Regardless of the answer (and there's nothing inherently wrong with being a socialist or communist or whatever label your surroundings deem 'cool' or 'uncool') there's a common thread: If a market truly wants to nurture domestic innovation, then performative finger-wagging will do nothing to that end.
