:s You should've just went to an Apple Store or called again because all macs have a 1 year warranty. Sounds like you just got someone who had a bad day on the other line.

1yr for hardware, 30days for software... according to the Apple Store... mine was a software issue.

Can any of the mac people in here tell me why they are so damn agressive when someone says mac sucks? Seriously, you guys are worse than the console boys.

I don't even own a mac, I am just sick of all sides throwing insults. And why is it you have to stab at the Mac people? Windows, and Linux users are all just as bad.

If it was a Software issue then why didn't you Reinstall? and if it was Hardware why didn't you call back and tell them you tried fixing the software?

I don't believe your story I'm afraid.

Maybe you should start believing cause thats exactly what happen. I did re-install OSX.. twice, it still wouldnt boot and every Apple authorized repair place rejected me cause I did not have Apple Care. So get out of your "Mac is invincible" bubble and face reality.. Apple took my money and that is the end of it, and if u dont like me blaming apple then so be it!

Yes apple bubble, I'm replying to you from a Windows Vista Ultimate PC that I built myself. yup them Apples sure got me!...

right. I just don't like listening to lies. Your story just doesn't make sense. Either you are very very unlucky to be turned down by multiple service stations and hang up on the phone or your telling porky pies. You get 90-days of support btw not 30.

I know for sure if Apple screwed me over I would do something about it to get my money back / refund / replacement. Trading Standards would have been called instantly.

Wait what? You reinstaleld and yet it wouldn't work even after? How many times did you call them? Did you tell them that it wouldn't boot even after a fresh install?

People use PCs for different reasons. I might get a macbook in the future simply because it's a lot easier to work with in terms of using unix pipelines and such. It's all due to personal preference so why don't y'all just settle down and enjoy whatever computer you have, be it pc or mac.

I called them after the 2nd reinstall, I called Apple, they told me to reinstall it again, I told them I did and they told me "Sorry, your warranty for our software has expired." so I went to the Apple Store at the Eatons Center in Toronto, They took it and after looking at it for 20min they said that nothing can be done for it.

I've never heard of anything as "warranty for software". If the machine doesn't work, it doesn't work and that's how it's always been for me with Apple. You have 1 year for coverage of your mac--you should've called Apple again and told them it had to be a hardware problem because your mini didn't boot. They would've asked you to send it in for repair.

o.O.. i should of, well then how come the Apple Store didnt figure it out?

I've been using that for 3 years on my ThinkPad.

Don't get me wrong... it's not that there is a lack of innovation by Apple - there is plenty and for that I am grateful, as it helps drive the entire OS community forward (as do innovations by Microsoft and the Linux world), this just isn't one of the cases of it...

<OT>

I remember the first time I found this bad boy on my R51... it has a picture of the machine which tilts when you tilt the machine... absolute magic!

I'm sorry, but you have to admit it's lies... if I can get a response out of Dell after 3 months of owning one of their machines, you sure as hell could get one out of Apple..

Cool, i'll look you up if i'm ever trying to shift broken goods, i'll just tell you your 15 minute warranty is up and i'm sure you'll give up.

Seriously though, I got a 24" iMac a few months ago (purely because it was going cheap) and loved OSX (mainly for the apple remote + front row combo). Sadly however, it was completely detrimental to my work, so I switched to XP. I occasionally dive back into OSX for the pleasure of it, but until they get over not being able to properly maximise apps, i'm gone. My other desktop has always run some flavour of linux, so i'm not just some n00b that didn't understand OSX.

^Was having the same issues with maximized applications such as Photoshop and such but now I'm used to it. I can finally see why it's the way it is as I was switching from multiple folders on the desktop and importing items into what I was working on. The work flow is there, it's a matter of getting used to the process is all.

Not to be annoying but on a screen size of 24" you wanted to run maxed on the applications? I'm on 20" iMac and the size is just right for me, 24" was just too huge. Felt like I was swimming in some ocean or something.

I'm also with the frame of mind that people can do without the [insert pc manufacturer here] systems and just go with an Apple system. If you need Xp or Vista, bootcamp it or parallel it and you are off and running. Average joe user doesn't need to mod or tweak their system up and out.

Just out of curiosity I did a search to compare PC and Mac. I picked Dell for the PC since it's the most "mainstream." I connected one these for someone at work that bought one and was amazed at the absolutely no noise it made. No discernible fan noise at all. I had to double check to make sure it was on. I upgraded the components where needed to match Apple as closely as possible. Anyways, here it is:

I only have 1GB, parallels is not an option on < 1.5GB. As for maximising, I'm a coder first, I design for fun. I understand completely why it is the way it is, it just doesn't suit me because i get distracted by the slightest things. I gave OSX 2 months and it just didn't work out. The 24 is what was on offer, so i took it.

The iMacs use Merom (Laptop) processors while your average desktop PC will use Conroe (Desktop) processors. The reason the iMac uses laptop instead of desktop processors is because the iMac's enclosure is much like a laptop. Not much space in there so it needs to keep heat down as much as possible.

Nice comparison though. Although the iMac 20" uses an ATI Radeon X1600. I wonder when doing a comparison would Vista Home Premium be equal to OS X Tiger. You get all features with Tiger but not all with Home Premium.

Not a fair comparison as the iMac has Bluetooth, WiFi and a better graphics card (albeit not much better at all). I think $ for $ they match up almost exactly once you bridge the gap.. An XPS410 has very little in the way of expandability too... so what was your point?

Don't forget iLife.

I'll give it Bluetooth and WiFi, but Dell's video card is 256Mb while iMac's is 128Mb so I would call it a wash (although I'd rather have the 256Mb). The XPS410 has plenty expandabillity, I've been in its chassis. In fact, as far as expandability I velieve the iMac would be much harder to expand than the Dell. My point was to satisfy my own curiosity. I'm planning on getting a Mac as my next computer.

You know, it's that agressive yet defensive tone that gives Mac zealots a bad name. Relax.

Don't forget iLife.

I personally don't understand the big deal about iLife... I have not been that impressed with it and to be honest Vista does everything it needs to out of the box to be comparable for me (and that is my own opinion, not an excuse to start a flame war)...

Mac Zealot? who me? I am PC all the way, Macs are lovely machines, and I made my computer unfriendly sister buy one, but I am sitting in front of my Vista Ultimate machine at the moment... thanks.

The point I was making, is that the XPS410 is not a good example of the 'PC are ultimately expandable' arguement, better to use say the E520 which is a real mini tower machine (as opposed to the SFF XPS410).

I am amused.. me a Mac Zealot :D

Don't forget that with the Mac you don't have to spend the time to uninstall all the bundled software and get going nice and quick. Also we got Boot Camp in the Mac world, which enables us to slap down Xp, Vista, Linux on our systems as well where as the Dell system you can install all those too, but you don't have OS X (legally).

Mac > Dell any day of the week.

I have yet to find a better consumer video editing software from what iMovie offers. I don't use Garageband nearly as much as iMovie but I'm not sure if Vista comes with music authoring software? Just wondering since I have yet to move on to Vista as XP is holding me well.

    • Nvidia GeForce NOW gains support for Dark Scrolls, Empulse, and more by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The final update of June for Nvidia's cloud gaming service GeForce NOW is now available, and it is touting support for six more games. The company is also drawing subscriber attention towards the summer sales kicking off across stores, so they can stock up on more cloud-supported titles. Of course, the Steam Summer Sale is the biggest promotion, which is kicking off later today. "Supported Steam games can be streamed across devices with GeForce NOW, making it easy to buy a game once, keep progress synced and pick up where the gameplay left off on PCs, Macs, handheld devices, phones, TVs and more," says the company. "In other words, the Steam Summer Sale brings the deals; GeForce NOW adds the flexibility." Don't forget that the GeForce NOW summer sale is still active as well. This limited-time offer drops the 12-month Performance membership from $99.99 to $64.99, saving members $35. At the same time, the 12-month Ultimate membership is currently going for $129.99, dropping the price by $70 from the original $199.99. Here are the games joining GeForce NOW's supported list this week: Dark Scrolls (New release on Steam, available June 22) SAND: Raiders of Sophie (New release on Steam, available June 22) Deer & Boy (New release on Steam, available June 23) EMPULSE (New release on Steam, available June 24) The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales (Steam) FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves (Steam) With the June expansions coming to an end, Nvidia should be announcing its July GeForce NOW plans next week. Keep in mind that, unlike subscription services like Game Pass or EA Play, a copy of a game must be owned by the GeForce NOW member (or at least have a license via PC Game Pass) to start playing via Nvidia's cloud servers. There is also a limit to how many hours subscribers can use the service per month.

    • There are so many of these apps now that do this, what do people recommend?
    • Just the price of doing business. The scamble to pull as much from the web as possible is happening, and it's happening before a case like this changes how or what is legal do to with AI in terms of data harvesting. But even then as we've seen with the likes of Google who ignore cookie requests and just accept the fact they'll get fined, it's built into their business price model now. AI is here, its not going away. Their reward if any from the court case would be best suited to trying to incorprate AI or licence their end points as authentic human verified content. The problem is, as we've seen these same news papers are using AI themselves.
