I always liked XP way better anyways so for me this is nothing new. It's about time people start waking up and noticing that.

Waking up and noticing what? That Vista is technically superior to XP in practically every way, or how for my needs, Vista works flawlessly? Good thing all the world doesn't agree with your opinion.

If microsoft admitted this or didnt, its true.. Vista is a failure..

In what way? You mean it's a failure besides the fact that Vista had a stronger start than XP did back in 2001? Or it's a failure because it's a major technical upgrade over XP? How exactly do you define failure?

I'm using vista and I'm fairly happy with everything, What does upset me is the following

to me visually its nothing more than a fancy new GUI with an added security layer. Allot of features have been dumbed down for example disk defrag and ntbackup (im sure theres more) and sometimes it hangs (i think because of this added securirty) other then that Im very happy with it the media centre stuff seems allot better then mce 2005. However it is new feature lacking to be fair.

People are only calling it a failure because its not moving as fast as some expected and because some feel it shipped to soon.

Vista's great on my 1.5GB P4 3Ghz etc..

But don't run it on a Core Duo 512MB laptop with a 5400rpm hdd, it's pretty slow even with a 1GB flash drive in ready boost

People who say it sucks:

1. Single core CPU

2. 512 MB

3. Old video card

People who say it rocks:

1. Dual Core CPU

2. 4 GB

3. good or great video card.

With the right hardware then Vista really performs well. I've run it on different systems and more memory is the BIG issue. With 2 to 4 gigs it performs well, with 1 GB it's OK and 512MB don't even bother.

As part of my last build, I set aside some money to buy Vista. After making use of the activation grace period, I used that money to buy a legit XP Pro license. There were just too many annoyances for me. Off the top of my head, I don't like what they did with Windows Explorer and there's weird "junctions" all over the place (Access Denied). Maybe in a year or so I'll give it another go. I have a feeling that MS won't be fixing things that we find annoying though, as they consider them new features.

The fact is that a major manufacturer offered it because some people wanted XP on their systems and that probably speaks for less than 1% of the PC users. I read somewhere that they recieved about 10,000 applications (was some BPN article). I as a customer want Vista if I get a new customer because I do not want to spend a couple hundered bucks again to get Vista down the road...Vista performs like XP at the least and is a better OS anyday. People whining about hardware need to get over it because you cant always sit around wuth 512 MB of RAM especially when the games, operating systems and other applications are becoming more power hungry. Move on with the technology, if you dont have the money... then you probably arent being productive enough to make money with the next gen stuff anyways.

If microsoft admitted this or didnt, its true.. Vista is a failure..

Wow, you were a luck one. ME destroyed my system one fine morning when I went to burn a CD. Took it into the shop, the guy looked at me and laughed. Walked out with a new internal system and Win 98 SE.

Vista Ultimate X64 rocks!!!! The problem with Vista is that is not the OS the problem is the third party applications that their developers are so lazy to make it Vista compatible but the OS is awesome!!!!!! no problem so far here!!!! I am really happy with vista.

I have Vista Ultime x64 on my notebook and as second OS on my development machine, and it works almost perfectly.

I'm still keeping Windows XP for day-to-day development tasks, because I have already Delphi installed in XP and I don't want to lose so much time reinstalling it in Vista, but one day I will do that.

Also, it's true: many developers are lazy and they don't do much to port applications to Vista. That's why I am not updating ZipGenius 6 anymore: that's a Windows XP-based application and Vista needs different programming techniques, so that I decided to start from scratch and write a truly new version of my software, keeping Vista in mind.

Vista works fine for me.

P4 Dual processor, 1GB RAM, nvidia 7300 256MB graphics card,160GB Sata.

My frnd runs in 1GB , integrated 946motherboard with aero enabled, 80GB harddisk..he too runs fine!.

Author of that story is a Win ME person.

Why are you even bothered about junctions? Just learn the new locations of the folders and keep hidden files hidden and you won't ever see them again. How else is Microsoft to reorganise things while retaining backwards compatibility with old software? You'll be waiting a long time for an operating system without Junctions to be honest, the number of them will increase if anything.

Oh and for the record, Vista Ultimate x64 runs fine on my machine. It's a Dual Core Athlon X2 4600+, with 2gb Ram and a 7600GT 256mb Graphics card. I love Vista and will never go back to XP. I just can't wait for SP1 so we can start some test deployments at my place of work.

1: my mums 1 yr old laptop has NO vista drivers (except for wi-fi)

2: Dell has started selling XP again due to demand: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6575089.stm

3: vista is XP with a different theme and slower! (on my system)

i dont just talk rubbish ya know ;)

i OWN vista.. yes i purchased vista ultimate, and i have also had the opportunity (haha) to play with Windows ME.. and i gotta say, ME is a giant piece of crap.

Vista on the other hand.. is perfect! The glass is perfect, it works flawless, no lagging, and no other crap, when i plug ANYTHING into a USB port, or add hardware, vista detects right away and install.

I also owned XP, and i think vista is 2x better then XP anyday.

Besides, I work at Best Buy and when customers come asking for XP, the only reason I heard so far (from over 50 customers both home and business) that Vista might be different and hard to get used to. Once we show them Vista hands on and few of its features, they walk out with it.

LOL - It would be a choice if Best Buy offered XP anymore. I just checked out their site and they don't have any new PCs listed that still come preloaded with XP.

Vista is not XP on steroids: it's completely different since its kernel. Mark Russinovich wrote a very nice review of what's under the hood. I can't find the link at this time, but I will post it here as soon as I find it again.

If you feel your computer is slower with Vista, well... nobody is forcing you to keep Aero turned on all the time. Vista's GUI can be reduced to a mere Win2K clone and your system will gain a good amount of "speed", while keeping almost all features.

That has nothing to do with Best Buy. It's the actual computer manufacturers. The only one that offers XP anymore is Dell, and they are obviously not being sold in stores in the first place.

I don't know about anybody else, but to me it seems like the only people who bash Vista are the ones who have no clue what they're talking about.
