At CheapAssGamer, forumer speedy1961 regularly provides advance previews of weekly circulars. For his July 15 notes, he says of Circuit City: "Please note $100 Price Break on Playstation 3 Game System which brings the price down to $499.99." His accuracy as a CAG regular has been proven immaculate. (Link to news site, CAG needs registration.)

i wonder if this is a CC only, but if not, its surely to fire up the console war
Following up on the report that the PLAYSTATION 3 would see a $100 price cut taking place the week after E3 2007, GameDaily has confirmed with "a merchandising manager at one of the world's biggest retailers" that the 60 GB version of the PS3 will indeed drop to $499, starting on July 12, one day after Sony's E3 press conference. GameDaily also reports that the new price is indeed indicative a retail-wide price drop, not a Circuit City specific sale, as a handful of speculators have posited.

the evidence is clearly there, but i won't believe it until sony officially announces it. good news for people who were waiting though if it's true.

This is exactly what they need right now; how it affects we will have to see.

I'd bet it probably won't affect them too much since people already bought more 360's and Wii's for the holiday season.

Although I'd be p***ed if I'd bought one at launch and a price drop, what, 3 months later?

Not directed at anyone in particular, but that's the chance people take when they're early adopters.

If Sony can pull themselves out of the water with this then good for them. I see them sinking more because of a bad management and pricing decisions.

Sure it's the risk you take, but I think timing could have been better. It's a little soon to be dropping $100 and p***ing all over your hardcore fans.

Although, people would still complain of the high price, so can't have it both ways! :p

Edit: Just read it's USA only :(

My friend that works at a local Circuit City is going to see if they have the ad in question at the store already when she gets to work tonight (in about an hour), and if so she'll let me know if it's in there. I'll pass it on once I know :)

lol yup, can't please everybody.

i don't think that the hardcore fans will be too mad because of the price drop though...they're probably the ones who would have paid anything for the ps3 anyway. now that the hardcore fans seem to be saturated, this drop will widen sony's market a little bit. they've got a long way to go to get to the mass market though.

another thing i might add...if someone is thinking of getting the ps3 as a blu-ray player, they would get 5 free blu-ray movies as well, so this could be an attractive deal for some.

It needs games. The price is a little more attractive, but right now it simply doesn't have any games making it worth buying over the 360. The 360's games line-up is phenomenal IMO. That year head start is really paying off for the 360 right now. And the graphics are still better. Imagine what could have been if it didn't suffer from all the hardware problems.

its great for sony, its truly needed, but they really need to knock off another $50 imho

great news for sony ?

Sony is allready losing 300 $ on each console sold. with a 100$ price drop, they'll be subsdizing nearly half the rpice of the PS3. and loosing a ridiculous amount.

Do you even realize the amount of games and accessories each buyer well need to buy to just make the console not a loss for Sony ? on the other hand this si somethign they have to do to evn get the consoles they have made and ###### on the shelves sold.

The only ones this is good news for is gamers, or rather gamers who want a PS3, meanwhile. MS is now just making money on the premium consoles per unit sold and could easily afford to drop the price and subsidize 100$ on each unit. they'd be making moneyon the subsidized unit in just a few sold games/acessories.

With production problems behind them and having settled into steady production I would think the console would cost much less than before. By having this financial decision I would think the cost cut margin would allow them to take this strategic move.

    • Looks like no official TBW rating, which should be a required listing in my opinion for sites like Amazon (hell, put it on the box too.)
    • I think I understood the article fine. Online password managers open users up to more possibilities of getting hacked, and due to KeePass being offline and local it reduces the idea of getting hacked. If someone chooses to put their database online they're kinda missing the point. With regards to the idea of the on-prem idea, I would have two issues. I'm not sure about the first issue, but I wouldn't be surprised about them offering a cloud storage for the passwords that most wouldn't bother to switch off, regardless of if they went for on-prem or not. The second issue is that the on-prem solution for Bitwarden costs money, whereas KeePass is free and open-source (as far as I am aware). The article points out how to sync the database between devices, and I recognise that deficiency in security. But it isn't a necessity. So both services can offer a same idea, but one is free and the other isn't...choices, choices.... But to each their own.

    • I am not surprised because life is the product of a lot of biochemical and physical processes that releases various energies as a by-product. The only thing new here is the detection of these photon emissions. The researches noted this "glow" is not a metaphysical one. They don't even immediately end when one is dead. Things like fires, light bulbs, and on a bigger scale stars release a lot more "light" and they are hardly alive.
