I thought it might be a good idea to have one thread where we can bundle most of the Apple-related rumors, instead of having countless smaller ones floating around. ;)

I'm kicking it off with AppleInsider claiming that the new redesigned iMac will spot a fresh keyboard design as well:

Tapping the wizardry of industrial design chief Jonathan Ive and his team, the Cupertino-based Mac maker has reportedly crafted a super-slim external keyboard for the new Macs. It's said to draw upon the aesthetic and feel of the low-profile keyboard which was first integrated with the company's 13-inch MacBook portables in May of 2006.

The product cycle for over half of their product line is over their average cycle... I would assume that they will release a whole range of products between now and Leopard, instead of having to go through 2007 without anything and release them in Macworld.

I was reading this about OSX being incorporated into the next generation of iPods and also including multi-touch features.

a 200MB OS and the requirement for 600MHz and 512 ram just to play music and video? sounds way other kill.

I wonder if Apple is planning to release everything on one day? A newly redesigned iMac, with a new OS to run it!

New iMacs are confirmed for August are they not? OS X 10.5 is confirmed for October. It would be a nice surprise but I still think they got a few bugs to work out in 10.5 before its public ready.

A new keyboard is pretty much a no-brainer when it comes to a redesigned iMac.

Is it? I always found it strange that the PowerMac G5/Mac Pro shipped with the same white keyboard as the iMac/eMac line.

Hopefully they'll get rid of the white and transparent plastic. While it looks very nice, it isn't always a treat to see dirt and hairs through the casing of an Apple Keyboard. :/

Anyone hear anything bout updating the mini to have a core 2 duo chip? now that the prices are dropping on the chip a good point you'd think they'd finally ditch core duo and go with core 2

The only rumors floating around are that the Mac mini will be discontinued.

Ultra-thin and Ultra-light Mac Notebook in 2007

MacScoop claims that according to "trusted sources" that Apple is planning on releasing "a notebook that is so small and light that it could redefine the standards of ultra-portable computing."

The upcoming Apple notebook is said to feature a 12" display, 0.6-0.7 inches thick, and weigh less than 3 pounds. MacScoop's sources are unclear if an optical drive will accompany this ultra-portable notebook, but do feel it is likely to come by year's end (2007).

For reference, Apple's current 15" MacBook Pro weighs 5.4lbs with a 1 inch thickness.

Rumors of a ultra-portable Apple laptop have been ongoing for since late 2006. MacScoop reported in December 2006 about the upcoming 12" ultra-portable MacBook Pro with additional details provided by Appleinsider in February. There are some conflicting reports with one summary that believed the ultra-portable would carry a 13" LED display.

I'm waiting on this as well. Would love to get one as soon as they put in an 8800gts or gtx.

You read my mind. Upgrading the standard to 2GB of ram while keeping the same price point also seems appropriate. I'd get 4GB of ram with it but the 4GB choice would probably be cheaper that way :p

The only rumors floating around are that the Mac mini will be discontinued.
My dad worked on the first intel mini. While he's no longer working for Apple, when he left (few months ago) he said there was no work going into the mini what so ever and he figured they're cutting it loose.
Is it? I always found it strange that the PowerMac G5/Mac Pro shipped with the same white keyboard as the iMac/eMac line.
how should they be different? Titanium looking?

I doubt the whole ipod multi-touch mini OS X thing. That seems really far fetched. Apple, before the iphone, has never given evidence they they ever wanted the iPod to be anythign more than a music player. Their UI is sparce right now as it is. I doubt that they would put more features in it. Especially considering that the ipod is one of the less feature endowed of the current portable audio players.

I don't know what to think about the whole brushed aluminum casing rumor about the new iMac. The only reason I find that hard to believe is becuase they have always reserved aluminum for their professional grade products. The iMac has always been part of the consumer line. Although maybe they are turning over their entire consumer line and ditching the white plastic.

    • Yup, broke my comp… again. its times like this when I regret AMD. This just never happens on NV.
    • Huh? You're delusional calling the Steam Deck dead. It is so successful that it has sold out multiple times. Even after the price hike this year it sold out again with 24 hours of being back in stock. The demand is real and has not died down even after four years.
