He may not have actually done the casting himself, but he pushed non-stop for it - references to gender changing in regeneration only began when he took the helm. Missy was the next big step, and I'm certain he had a hand in casting Jodie.

This isn't wiping the slate clean of Moffatt - it's what he was working for the entire time.

But why do you think Moffatt's influence can't continue just because there's a woman in the role? (Especially since that's the ultimate expression of the Moffatt Masterplan IMO!)

I dunno, don't think the casting had much to do with moffat (other than he lobied for it perhaps?), after all Chris Chibnall had worked with Joddie? seems like a hand picked choice! Also the fact that a woman is now cast opens a whole new world for love affairs (hence no sense for nardole to be around), assistants/companians, as such, clean slate in so many terms with moffat story arcs. (eg. My bet is own the new showrunner taking advantage of the things i'm mentioning to improve on moffat, or if you want to look at it that way, he has the plate served for a clean slate, whatever he choses to do, we will know until it happens I guess.)

No thanks. That's another element of modern Who I dislike - the romantic focus. Hated Season 2 because of the 10-Rose crap. I agree with the late John Nathan-Turner - no hanky-panky in the TARDIS!

Exactly! It could also take that point! See the possibilities!

If there's one thing absolutely guaranteed to make me and 1000's of other Who fans stop watching the show, it's more sodding romance! NO! Dr Who has NEVER been about that, and shoehorning it in just ruins it.

Gah, no. Not romance. Anything but that. We had entirely enough of that with Amy, Rory and Clara. River Song I could understand, because that was an important for THREE Doctors; but that's all that should have been needed.

Actually, I'd love to see River show up now that the Doctor is going to be a woman. Not because I'm some sick freak and want to see some hot lesbo action or something, but because I think they could do some great play on gender roles that way. But I suppose that would also funnel into all the hate they are currently getting about the situation. Eh, I doubt River is going to come back though at least so soon.

Oh FFS!

Honestly, some people would be happy to keep progress in the stone age. To those luddites, get over yourselves, the world doesn't revolve around you, don't like it, then don't effin watch it!

^ I know, right? I mean, sure, I'm not totally happy about the decision. I think a lot of it IS just pandering to the PC brigade, but remember that I'm coming from a history of growing up with Dr Who, specifically Pertwee and Baker for my younger years, and they were huge father figures for me. It's only natural I'd have some concern over such a huge change. Hell, YOUNG Doctor's were bad enough without switching to young woman!

But I will give the new Doctor a chance, just like I have all the others.  With all the recent ones I've started off not liking I've been proven wrong, so that will probably happen again.

Hit the nail on the head, (for me Capaldi was the one that turned me off), but If Jodie can bring back that 'magic' then I don't see the harm in it.
At a guess I'd think we're in similar age brackets as Pertwee and Baker were the Doctor when I was growing up too.

I had many doubts about Capaldi.. His age was right, but his acting history gave me pause.  Sadly, his first season was fraught with such dreadful writing, that I actually didn't even bother to watch his next 2 until very recently.  Now he's finally gotten some decent stories, he's decided to go...

Eh.. 3 years seems to be the average for Dr Who actors so he's spot on there.

As for age.... Probably, yes! I'm 48. :) and have been a huge Who fan since as long as I can remember... About 3 years old I think, which puts me right at the end of Pertwee's era.  My earliest strong memory of the show is of a huge spider on the Doctor's back, killing him! Pretty terrifying image for a little un!

Kris Marshall was a red hot favourite to take on the iconic role of Doctor Who but it seems that may be everyone was looking at the wrong role all this time as he is now reportedly considering the role of the assistant.

Marshall shocked fans when he quit his popular BBC drama Death In Paradise out of the blue, leading to speculation he had been cast as the new Doctor, taking over from Peter Capaldi.

A shock announcement on Sunday July 16 however confirmed that the BBC had instead hired a woman to take on the role which has been familiar to many for decades, and now it has been alleged that Marshall is instead on the top of the list to take over from Pearl Mackie as the assistant.

‘Kris is a big fan of the show and the BBC are a big fan of his,’ a source told the The Sun.

Former companions include Jenna Coleman, Billie Piper, and Karen Gillan; Pearl joined the show in 2016 but has stepped down after one series.

Matt Lucas will remain as a second assistant.

I'm willing to give her a chance, but I'm very skeptical - I like the Doctor as a father/mentor type character - even Matt Smith was wrong for the part IMO. But better writing could have changed my mind, and it could do so here as well. Similarly, I LOVE Capaldi as the Doctor, but stopped watching because I hated the stories he was in. Got so disgusted with the terrible scripts that I didn't even watch the last season. Hell Bent was pretty much the worst episode of the entire series, old and new.

Similarly, I always felt Peter Davison was too young for the part, and worse, his portrayal was totally boring. He's the least of the actors in the role so far. Even the much-maligned Colin Baker injected his Doctor with loads of character and genuinely came off as alien.

As long as she's better than Davison and Smith, and Chibnall hires decent writers, I'll watch. If not, there's always the next regeneration. I ignore the Davison era, I can ignore the Whitaker era too if it isn't up to par.

Liked Tom Baker as Doctor Who but wasn't a fan of the others until the reboot.

My most hated (mebbe a bit strong) Doctor was Sylvester McCoy, just could not stomach him in the role, maybe it was because I'd grown out of it (I'm an older guy like you 2, 49) and had fond memories of Tom Baker.

Syl worked best with Ace - he isn't the best Doctor, but the 7-Ace team is amazing. The right companion can really make the Doctor work. That's one reason I'm not as hard on Colin as some people - he was saddled with the worst companions of the classic show! Maybe if they'd borrowed Frobisher from the comics ... Or if they hadn't tried to pass Peri off as an American ... who couldn't hold her "American" accent for a full line. Peri was my most hated companion until Rose came along.

And it's also why I could watch Matt despite his portrayal just not clicking for me - Rory was awesome. Problem was Moffatt had the attitude that the companion was more important than the Doctor.

Storylines were stupid as well, imperial daleks vs renegade daleks, cybermen who were more camp than scary, too reminiscent of 1960's England (complete with 'no blacks allowed' signs in shop windows etc.)

    • Classic outlook, not only does it have a much fuller feature set, it doesn't include Microsoft attempting to sync my emails from my servers to theirs. If classic outlook is ever removed from office, and the version I paid for in 2021 stops working for some reason, I'll use Thunderbird.

Rendering is done using a separate non-blocking process so it can be stopped, paused and restarted. Kdenlive also provides a script called the Kdenlive Builder Wizard (KBW) that compiles the latest developer version of the software and its main dependencies from source, to allow users to try to test new features and report problems on the bug tracker. • Here's how to watch the Xbox Games Showcase today and what to expect by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The June games showcase week has been a packed one, with everything from major presentations like Sony and Summer Game Fest to indie-focused reveals coming in almost every day. Now, it's almost time for another big one, with Microsoft bringing its Xbox Games Showcase back later today. This is a double feature too, with a Gears of War E-Day deep dive also being attached to it. For anyone wanting to tune in online, the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase is kicking off at 10 AM PT | 1 PM ET | 6 PM BST | 7 PM CEST later today, June 7. The event will be available to watch on the official Xbox YouTube (4K 60FPS), Twitch, Facebook, Steam, Amazon Live, and other portals. Separate livestreams for American Sign Language and Audio Description will also be available. "This year marks 25 years of XBOX, and this Showcase is poised to be a true celebration, offering world premieres, new gameplay, fresh updates, and more for a swathe of projects we cannot wait to share," said Microsoft about this presentation. With a new CEO behind it that is pulling off some interesting moves, Xbox may have some surprises to reveal today. New looks at first-party games like Halo Campaign Evolved from Halo studios, Fable from Playground Games, InXile Entertainment's Clockwork Revolution, Mojang's Minecraft Dungeons II, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 from Infinity Ward are to be expected here. We may finally get to see the new Blade from Arcane Studios in action and a new Persona game from Atlus at the showcase too. Surprise announcements may also arrive from other Microsoft-owned studios like Bethesda, MachineGames, Ninja Theory, Obsidian, Rare, World's Edge, or Blizzard. Considering how every new release nowadays is staying away from November and December to avoid Grand Theft Auto VI's release, any launch dates Microsoft announces will probably skip those months as well. Once the Xbox Games Showcase ends, Microsoft will immediately kick off the Gears of War: E-Day Direct. This deep dive into the upcoming prequel from The Coalition should attach gameplay footage and perhaps a release window to the highly anticipated project.
    • People in the '50s and '60s had the same attitude, and we're still here over a half century later.
    • So after some fiddling I was able to get it to run at a pretty stable 30FPS. I'm slightly surprised about how much fiddling I had to do to get there though given what I thought was reasonable hardware: Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS w/ Radeon 780M Graphics Memory: 16 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor 1: AMD Radeon 780M Graphics Graphics Processor 2: AMD Radeon RX 7700S I think I could do it better if I use Linux rather than Windows, Windows RAM usage is stupid without stripping the system down. But once I got it working in a reasonable state, it was so awesome! I felt like a new Bond! If anyone has any advice to get things going a bit smoother FPS-wise, I'd appreciate it.
