A disgusting and twisted restaurant in the Tokyo entertainment district of Roppongi is enticing warped rich folk with the opportunity to figuratively have their cake and eat it, too -- with animals, according to Jitsuwa Knuckles (9/25).

Roppongi's bestiality restaurant is being regarded by its main nouveau riche patronage of young company presidents and venture capitalists as a decadent practice only possible among the wealthy.

"Apparently, the restaurant started off quietly in the basement of a building that a real estate agent in Roppongi who couldn't find any other tenants," an S&M club worker identified only as M tells Jitsuwa Knuckles. "News about the restaurant spread through word of mouth and it became popular."

M says she visited the members-only restaurant about half a year ago after being invited there by one of her regulars, a well-heeled lawyer.

At first glance, the first floor restaurant appears fairly nondescript. When a customer goes in, they give their name to a receptionist. When they are approved, they pass through a wooden door to be greeted by another door, this one made of metal. Passing a membership card over a scanner outside the door will automatically open it. Inside is an eatery that resembles just about any other Italian restaurant.

Membership in the restaurant is open only to those with an annual salary of at least 20 million yen, and a minimum cash flow of 100 million yen.

"After we got into the main restaurant, an employee escorted us down to the basement," M says. "The walls were pitch black and the floor covered in a blood red carpet, so I guess the place must be a refurbished S&M club."

Once the customer feels prepared, they will be presented with beast of their choice. In the lawyer's case, it was a sow.

"I'd been told what to expect, but when I actually saw what was happening, it was as shocking as you'd imagine it to be," M tells Jitsuwa Knuckles. "Later, the lawyer told me the appeal of the place just came about because when people have got money and done everything else, they turn toward bestiality."

Once the lawyer had finished porking the pig, the couple returned to the first floor and sat at a table to dine. M says she was totally shocked when staff members carried in roast pork -- made of the same sow the lawyer had earlier been with.

"I was about to vomit," M says. "It was the same pig that had been squealing just moments before. Now, it had been roasted whole. I managed to avoid eating it by only having salad."

Incidentally, prices range from 200,000 yen to 500,000 yen for a chicken, dogs cost somewhere between 300,000 yen and 800,000 yen, while pigs and goats start at around 800,000 yen. Charges are higher depending on whether the creature is female and how active it is.

"The owner says he is prepared to cook up any kind of animal at all," M tells Jitsuwa Knuckles. "He even said he'd prepare elephants ... but I think he might have been joking about that." (By Ryann Connell)

Yeah, OK, the same pig... it takes quite a while to cook pork, it's not a meat that can be rushed and come out good.

before anyone goes on with japanese are crazy etc..lets not pin this on Japanese here. I can assure you just as many Japanese would be disgusted by this as with other developed countries. lets not forget, while it may not happen in this disturbing rape then eat manner, beastiality occurs all over the world. I'm sure a quick search of the net will find you many results of such indecent acts.

The information appears to come from a source whose information is 6 months old at the time of interview. I wonder what the current operations of this place are. do they remain unchanged, has the popularity increased/decreased etc. I can't imagine such a thing lasting a long time, more like a fad that lasts until those same people get bored and find something new to slash their large wallets on.

EDIT: As with the above poster Colicab, I see it very unlikely that such a place would last long in Japan once made public. it wouldn't surprise me if places like this exist all over the world but hidden from public knowledge.

I can't imagine such a thing lasting a long time, more like a fad that lasts until those same people get bored and find something new to slash their large wallets on.

I like the way Japanese culture can even put that into perspective as being a temporary gesture of gratification and moving on to something else. I think everyone else here would pretty much be appalled if this behavior was going on in their country.

      Meta is reusing old DDR4 RAM in its servers instead of buying new hardware by Ivan Jenic Image: Meta The global hardware shortage isn’t exactly news, as the entire world has been struggling with rising component prices for quite some time now. And while big companies certainly aren’t as affected as the average consumer, even they aren’t opposed to the idea of saving a few (million) bucks. Meta appears to have found a way to spend less on new hardware while also putting its outdated infrastructure to use, essentially killing two birds with one stone. The company has built a custom chip that lets it reuse memory from retired servers rather than buying new hardware. The chip is called Vistara and allows for connecting old DDR4 RAM from obsolete servers into new servers that rely on DDR5. The problem Vistara solves goes back to a basic mismatch in how long hardware lasts. Meta replaces its servers every three to five years, but the memory modules inside them are good for seven to ten. When a server gets decommissioned, perfectly usable DDR4 RAM goes with it. Meta is presenting the new method at today’s ISCA symposium, but The Register has got hold of a paper that explains how Vistara works. It's a custom ASIC that bridges DDR4 memory to newer processors via aCXL 2.0/1.1 interface over PCIe Gen5 x16. Meta pulls DDR4 sticks from old machines and installs them in dedicated units it calls MemServers, each of which pairs 768GB of DDR5 with 256GB of recovered DDR4. The operating system sees the DDR4 as an additional memory node and draws from it when the primary DDR5 is running low. Off-the-shelf CXL hardware couldn't do this, so Meta built its own. Existing interfaces bundle their own memory with the controller, which makes reusing old RAM sticks impossible. But Vistara separates the controller from the memory entirely, so Meta can plug in whatever DDR4 sticks it has on hand. Meta plans to deploy the new architecture in hyperscale infrastructure with millions of servers, which should mean that Meta’s AI datacenters will now be more efficient. The company is investing heavily in AI infrastructure, especially with its new AI model, Muse Spark, now widely available. All of this doesn't mean that Meta will exclusively rely on "recycled" RAM, but the company is still looking at considerable savings at scale.
