PS3 misconceptions and spin

Recommended Posts

When are you going to give up on that pitiful excuse more like. The PS3 is just shy of being out a year and has barely grown at all in it's offerings to the PSN. In the same time frame the 360 had released a demo for almost all it's games bar some, I don't know the exact numbers but a lot of arcade games, and was already in the process for launching Movie marketplace. Sony owns a record label and movie studio and they've not even shown an interest so far in the area. The 360 has been out a year longer yes, but the PS3 is now in the same time position as 360 a year ago and nowhere near the same level.

I have actually heard a little that Sony is planning movie/tv show/ etc downloading for their console just like the 360s marketplace. I heard this on some blogs I think so who knows how true it is.

Funnily enough i do have an Xbox 360, nice of you to make assumptions though.

No matter how many times you say LBP is an arcade game doesnt change the fact that i dont buy an expensive console to play crappy little games, i didnt buy my PS3 JUST for LBP smartass.

And yet out of everything I said, all you could retort with was something you already said. Now you said it for a 4th time. I make assumptions because of your blatant biasness. Do you really expect me to think you own a 360 when you only talk positively about one system and negatively about the other one?

As Munky pointed out, what games did Sony hyped in the beginning? R:FOM and Motorstorm.

What are they hyping now? Killzone 2 and Gran Turismo Prologue HD/5. In terms of gaming, the same arguments can be said on the playstation 3, but yet again at least the 360 has more of a library to chose from.

What do PS3 owners have currently that are MUST haves? Lair was a control nightmare, Heavenly Sword was a 5 1/2 hour rental with almost no incentive to replay it, Ninja Gaiden: Sigma was a upconverted port with a few new levels, and Warhawk was supposed to be awesome and quickly became a crippled multiplayer only game because Sony wanted and needed some sort of new game to release.

This leaves us with Ratchet and Clank? Wow, PS3 owners sure are lucky. Then you have Super Stardust HD, which was a take on the super popular Geometry wars. Everyday shooter is pretty cool but quickly got old as well. And since you like to say the same thing over and over again, let me do the same.

Why aren't there more demos? Why are some arcade games only full games? The 360 offers free demos for EVERY game arcade wise, and apart from about 5 retail DVD games, every single retail game has a demo. Why doesn't the Playstation 3 offer this?

Here's my take.....the games suck, and they want you to hopefully go out and purchase them because they need software sales. They hope that since there aren't that many games out there in the first place that you will say "screw it" and go buy the game.

Sure you have Unreal Tournament III, which now will probably be delayed, and then you have Uncharted: Drakes Fortune which looks awesome, but sadly will only be 720p/1080i. Another feature touted by Sony which quickly turned to nothing. Why do I have my 1080p HDTV again? Oh that's right, for my xbox 360! :D

Let me share a list with you. This is something I personally made about 2 months ago. Tell me what the problem is...

And you used to be a down to earth unbiased member of the gamer's hangout, and look how that turned out. You really have fell hard for the PS3 hype recently since you bought your console. But honestly, all it is is hype and many of us who own both the 360 and PS3 know it from our own experience.

I have to agree with you there of course i am going to justify and defend my purchase im just tired of people ****ting on it just because they have a 360.

However if I want to know for sure that is at the very least "capable" of the same graphics performance as the 360 or much more preferably better. I don't care how hard it is to program for. I just want what has the best potential.

Basically I want a ps3 but I don't feel comfortable getting one yet because I don't think its been determined if it can match the xbox 360 in grahpics. Maybe it is better but I really don't understand this stuff.

As far as graphics go, the 360 is more powerful, that is a fact nobody can deny, the 360 also has a far better online gaming system with live, add the two together and it doesn't take a genius to figure out, as far as gaming goes, the 360 is better. Theres no point in fan boys arguing over the same thing all the time, theres plenty of articles on the net comparing the two, go and read a few of them.

Sure you have Unreal Tournament III, which now will probably be delayed, and then you have Uncharted: Drakes Fortune which looks awesome, but sadly will only be 720p/1080i. There are more 1080p games on the PS3 than there are on the 360 so please get your facts right before you get all smug, the PS3 can do 1080p too.

Funny how you put exclusives and multiplatform titles in the 360 column, but dont put the same multiplatform titles in the PS3 column to try and skew your argument, sad.

Lets see:

etc..

Among others, not such a barren list is it once you are fair with both consoles.

Edited by Sheppard

I put them on the xbox 360 side because that's the platform of MY choice. The list is "Games I want to buy" not "games coming out to both consoles". There's nothing sad about MY list...I just figured I would share it with you.

And from every article that shows 360 versions are looking/playing better than the ps3, I chose to put them there.

Bladestorm might be cool...the others you listed that I didn't personally do nothing for me.

And actually, there are more 1080p games on the 360, when you count about 45 of them being arcade games. :p Technically, EVERY game now supports 1080p, because of the last update and the built in scaler. I do find it funny that you will not argue with all the other points I make. You single out one and only talk about it, because you CAN'T argue with me on the other points. You know I'm right and don't want to say it, so you chose to just not argue the points.

Alas, I will give up. Enjoy your console while mine gathers dust. You don't know how much I wish I could sell my damn PS3, but I want some money for it since it barely gets use. Sadly, no one wants it either, so I would lose way too much money. :/

Fair enough but it looked like you were trying to skew it towards 360 by making the PS3 list have hardly any games there

And from every article that shows 360 versions are looking/playing better than the ps3, I chose to put them there.

Hardly, ive not see any articles that discuss any of the newer games and comparing graphics, only older titles

NATIVE 1080p games, you again were trying to skew the argument saying the 360 can do 1080p, the PS3 can do 1080p too and has more RETAIL games that are native 1080p not including Arcade games.

Same for me with my xbox 360, it just sits there now gathering dust, although i am willing to wait it out for some good games like Mass Effect and Alan Wake.

For me really dude, it's the fact that I am an achievement ###### to a degree. Every multiplatform game (apart from possibly UTIII) I want on the 360. The reason I bought the PS3 is for those crazy exclusives. I've just been waiting for half a year now and I'm itching to play SOMETHING.

I don't feel like I'm ****ting on your console, rather than just venting on a public place about what angers me about the PS3. I want to give the damn console praise. There are honestly features the PS3 has that might be stupid to some, but I love it. The best example is Folding@Home. I think that project is one of the coolest things to come to a console and I wish Microsoft could join in on that. Not so that they would have the same feature, but so that 11 million people could have the possibility of using their console for something that I consider a good cause.

The playstation 3 has a shitload of potential....but potential means nothing. I'm itching to play some of these newer games coming out, but until they show me something that makes my mouth drop, I'm going to continue to be unimpressed and wonder why I have the console. I don't understand why your 360 is gathering dust though. The list you produced made it seem like there are 10-20 games out for the xbox 360 that you would enjoy, so I'm quite confused.

Try out some demos. :p

What games run in 1080p on the X360?

And why is haze in the X360 side of the list?

I have actually heard a little that Sony is planning movie/tv show/ etc downloading for their console just like the 360s marketplace. I heard this on some blogs I think so who knows how true it is.

My point is, Sony are in a far more capable position than Microsoft to offer a download service for movies and music, even if it was only titles they are publishing themselves. And again, you've proven that there has only been talk from Sony and no action. What use is it to me and the rest of the PS3 community hearing of these services from a blog of all places, which take years and months to come out?

For comparisons sake, the 360 has launched the Movie Maretplace, worked their ass off to sign deals with all of these studios and build a huge collection without their own labels being part of the equation. That is pretty damn impressive, and with the Movie market coming to Europe and Canada in the next few months, it's only getting better. Anybody would think PS3 would be in this position and not MSFT, especially when it's capable of storing god knows how many movies on a 60GB drive, and as I've said, a movie and music label.

What games run in 1080p on the X360?

When I made this list, Haze was still multiplatform...and I still think it's coming to the 360.

all i can say is , atleast microsoft is taking responcibility for the faulty console. Sony never once took it during the ps2 with playing dvds destroying the system. I had to get 3 new ps2's because the second someone would play a dvd, load times took longer, read errors would occurs, and eventually it would die. Same with the ps3. When something goes wrong, dont expect any extended warranties or free repairs. Sony will expect you to keep paying.

PS3 is great, it is not the best like the adverts say or like sony make it out to be. To some extent this article is right, however you can not take away the fact that it is still 1 of the cheapest blu-ray players on the market and is an "all in one" system. By that i mean the wifi is integrated, is future proof to some extent with Blu-ray (if blu ray wins that is), has an integrated PSU (unlike 360, one of my complaints about the 360 is the brick!). Certain versions have BC and a card reader, has had a HDMI connection since the start(im getting an elite because i want to upscale to 1080p my 360 games and movies, i wish ms would either magically make the old premiums hdmi compatible)

At the moment i would go with my 360 over the PS3. Reason being, better games hands down, okay so MGS4 and FFXIII is round the corner but im talking about the present. Ask me which i prefer in 6-12 months i would possibly say the PS3, but again that depends on what new games and features come out.

I am a very very proud owner of a PS3, 360 and Wii, inc psp and a few other consoles, i dont regret my purchase at all at this point, my only complaint is that i was "pressured" in a way into buying one as 60GB would be phased out. Maybe if it had not and i managed to get one at christmas or early new year my preception would be different.

Most people dont buy a console to play crappy little minigame games.Prove it, just because YOU would play the hell out of it doesnt mean other people will, all the 360 has are driving games and shooting games.

Whats the point of arcade games, i didnt buy my ?350 console to play stupid little minigames.>WOW chatpad, i must go and buy one RIGHT AWAY!!!!!!!!!! I buy games to play them, not so i can sit and chat to my friends, i use the phone for that.Whats with the arcade game fetish, we get it you like crappy little minigames. Of course the 360 will have more games its had a years headstart, sick of 360 fans saying "but the 360 has more" OF COURSE IT HAS.>Key word. "Apparently". Every peice of hardware has a failure rate especially something so complex but there are VERY few cases of PS3s failing, how many RROD problems have there been, how many people are on their 4th and 5th console.

You sound like a religious preacher, we get it you think the 360 is the dogs bollocks and the PS3 is crap, stop trying to belittle everyone who doesnt automatically jizz over the 360.

Yes, 5-6 games, mature. Enjoy your endless FPS and Driving games.

You have far from won anything.

Speak for yourself. 360 Arcade was a big deciding factor for me and a bunch of my friends to go for 360. It really brings back old memories and I like playing new and improved Prince of Persia classic, as it was the first PC game I ever played.

And they are not short mini games. I have spent more time playing UNO on live than I have played Halo 3 multiplayer. Ofcourse, you wouldn't know about this when you blindly hate the 360.

I can understand why people fight over OS X and Windows, but not consoles. I love PS3. If it fails as a game console, it will always be a rocking media player, blu-ray disc ###### (in a good way), and a (somewhat) capable internet browser.

Amen.

Ouch! This news just sucks for PS3, and it's all their fault, why? Because PS3 wanted to out-do the xbox360. Remember the stats for the first look at the PS3? It's processor, ram, and graphics card were all worse then the Xbox360, and once November 11, 2005 hit, PS3 changes it's marketing strategy, and changes ALL the hardware! They went looking for better this and that, but didn't plan it out too well... because the Cell isn't good for gaming!

This isn't news... I've been saying this for years. Any unbiased party who looks at the actual hardware and the architecture of each system will undoubtedly come to the same conclusion. The PS3 is a significantly lesser gaming machine.

It has a lot of cheaper hardware, too. If you took out the BluRay drive, the PS3 might actually be cheaper than a 360 (or if you gave the 360 an HD-DVD drive, it'd be more expensive than the PS3).

That's why the BluRay drive will be Sony's undoing, and why embracing HD-DVD was a genius idea for Microsoft. MS doesn't really care about this format war (well, not a lot anyway). But doing say only provoked Sony to ensure that they kept BluRay in the PS3... a potentially fatal error (among many).

Since people often like to make silly car analogies - let's say the 360 is like a standard BMW or Audi, and the PS3 is like a loaded up Kia with tons of audio and video equipment, etc. So if you want to watch movies, the Kia might look like the better choice. But for its real purpose (driving, or gaming in the case of the PS3) it just sucks. The German car is architected for driving. It has a balanced, rigid chassis - a refined engine with useful torque curve, electromechanical steering, sport-tuned suspensions, etc. Yeah you have to pay more than the Kia if you want one of these and you want it to play movies and such, but you don't have to give up the basics.

There are more 1080p games on the PS3 than there are on the 360 so please get your facts right before you get all smug, the PS3 can do 1080p too.

No... No there aren't.

1080p rendering on the PS3 is nearly impossible. It's like trying to run at 1920x1080 on a Geforce 6800 (non-Ultra), which has the same memory bandwidth as the RSX. It can be done, but you'll never get FSAA or any texture filtering, and your game will be choppy and look like crap in every other way.

Most people dont buy a console to play crappy little minigame games.

Key word. "Apparently". Every peice of hardware has a failure rate especially something so complex but there are VERY few cases of PS3s failing, how many RROD problems have there been, how many people are on their 4th and 5th console.

About point one there: See the Wii... it's doing pretty well in the market.

About point two: Sure there are RROD problems, but despite all of them, it's still doing far better than the PS3 is in the market. That's saying something about the experience people get with the 360.

-Spenser

This guy is spot on in absolutely everything. Doesn't seem to be biased at all, just spitting out the facts.

This post might come across as a lot of Sony bashing, but it's just the reality from the trenches. Sony let their hardware be designed by a comity of business interests rather than a well thought out design that would serve the game development community. They are going to loose hard this round because of it, and I hope that in the next round they take lessons from this round and produce a more balanced and usable machine.

I'm sure Sony will learn their lesson and the PS4 will be quite a contender. As for the PS3 this generation, the only real reason to get one is for a cheap entry level Blu-Ray player and a couple exclusives for the die-hard fans of the respective franchise. Other than that, the PS3 offers nothing the 360 doesn't already do better.
