PS3 misconceptions and spin

Recommended Posts

Just like on the 360 where most of the games dont even run 720p, they are lesser resolution then upscaled to 720p.

Umm, no. Every 360 game renders at a minimum of 720p, it is one of the certification requirements. There are one or two very special exceptions like Halo 3, where it renders at a size slightly less but with two independent frame buffers - doing roughly twice the work of a standard 720p game (with nearly twice as many pixels rendered in the end).

Ahhhhhhhhhhh reported.

How can i be a fanboy if i have both 360 and PS3?

I didnt buy a 360 just to spite everyone else, ive had my 360 since launch and only got a PS3 because the 60Gb was being discontinued.

You call me and a few other members here "haters" pretty often dude, and some of us own 360's and PS3's and even the Wii. So what you on?

Please discuss topics respectfully. Attempts to bait others into flamewars will not be tolerated. The use of "fanboy" (or any similar derogatory term) when used against a specific member or group of members will be considered flame-bait and/or a personal attack.

Umm, no. Theres more that off the top of my head i cant remember, but Halo 3, Project Gotham 3 and Call of Duty 3 all internally render at LESS than 720p but then upscaled.

Funny that  So basically your previous post was pointless because you can't even name more than 2 yourself. So really saying "where most games" is BS and now you are back pedaling? Right, gotcha

Why are some people so hostile when it comes to console talk?

Because im sick of people with xbox 360 gamertag sigs coming into the Playstation forum proclaiming PS3 downfall, the PS3 sucks, Blu-Ray is crap, the games are crap compared to the 360, the 360 is better, Sony suxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx etc..

to end the arguement, lets not talk what games are to come out, lets see which games are out. I dont follow both, so if anyone could post a list of the games for each system, then i think we could tell at least which console is getting the better games. Id have to say 360, since i can name probably 10 games off the top of my head, while when i try to name ps3 games, i can really only think of 2 games. I dont count the ea games that cant even run at 30fps on the ps3. ( those should have never been released)

Last time I checked the 360 didn't have MGS, GT, FF, God of War etc...but did have a %33 percent failure rate.

technically neither does the PS3, they are not released. GT Demo is out and thats about it. Failiure rate or not MS have an extended 3 year warrenty to cover that failiure rate.

Jinx ;)

To be honest people are talking about it like its the best thing ever that Microsoft have extended warranty, its EXPECTED of them considering the 360 has one of the highest failure rate of any console lately, people shouldnt be on their 5th and 6th repaired/swapped console because of RROD.

Also to whatever 360 fan brings up the PS2 failure rate to try and change the subject, people brought 2 class action lawsuits against Sony because of it yet people are praising Microsoft because they are obligated to repair the console due to their design flaw? Hippocrit much?

^ I'm on my second RROD. Oh well.

Pride and envy.

That could be it.

I don't want to sound apprehensive but have you ever thought of ignoring people that do that? Don't let their posts get under your skin. :)

Probably but it gets tiring when people are trying to have a proper discussion about things and you get people coming in from Xbox 360 forum saying something that sparks off yet another flame war, im in here to discuss PS3 and of course im going to argue back with people that are here just to cause trouble.

I have had my console for a year and a half and have had no problems (although I did get frightened when I saw 4 red rings, then realized i didnt plug in the AV cable)

33% is an exaggeration. Out of the 8 360's of friends I know, only 1 has been in for service for RROD. Keep it ventilated and your less likely to have problems

Heres the 2nd thing - Blu-Ray isnt that important. I live in a very well-off area, and only 2 of us even have HDTV's for our systems, and mine is a 30" Sony CRT, so I couldn't tell the difference between 480p and 1080i on a movie. It only matters for those with large (42"+) 1080p systems.

For me, personally, the PS3 doesn't have the games I want.

As far as I'm aware though, sony never admitted the design flaw in the PS2. MS have kinda admitted the flaw in the 360.

Yes and are now obligated to repair any 360, Sony never admitted anything and got 2 Class action lawsuits slapped on them. You shouldnt be praising Microsoft for fixing design flaws that shouldnt have been there in the first place.

Wow you magically increase that number every few posts. wonder how long untill it's 6th-7th....

Very few people have had 3 or more consecutive failures. of thos ethat have had failures most have had 1, and a few have had 2 or 3 due to the fact that they have been returned the same console or a new one before the nature of theproblem had been fully researched.

of course the ones that are on their 4th are the loudest ones on the internet but there isn'treally that many of them. and the large majority have never returned one.

And those class action lawsuits are pretty useless when Sony still refuses to acknowledge the problems with the PS2 and it's STILL having the failues. MS could just as well have kept their 3 month or 1 year standard warranty. But MS acknowledged that there was a prolem and extended the warranty period. and for that they do deserve praise, it's not something that they had to do. but for me it doesn't matter, since where I live it'd have 3 year warranty (by the nature of the product it'sd actually be 5 year) on production faults anyway. I like coutnries with proper consumer protection :)

And while someone was naming games they couldn't get onthe 360. I'll name the games that make me buy a 360.

Dead Rising, GoW, Shadowrun, Forza 2, MAss Effect, PGR, Lost Oddysey (maybe it's multiplatform I dunno), GTA4 with exclusive chapters, Halo 3(wich I actually didn't think I would buy, but after buying it, I definately don't regret it), Media Center Extender,

oh and Will Ace Combat on the PS3 also be released with a HOTAS controller ? I never thought I'd see a console with a good HOTAS setup. well it's missing the pedals but I can live with that :)

Did you even read what i posted?

I put 3 games there that dont render 720p. Tony Hawks 8 doesnt do 720p either but it doesnt render 720p either on PS3 which is why i left it out.

Yes I did read what you wrote, and you specifically said "where most games". How does 3 (4 if you include TH), equate to "most" titles?

Because im sick of people with xbox 360 gamertag sigs coming into the Playstation forum proclaiming PS3 downfall, the PS3 sucks, Blu-Ray is crap, the games are crap compared to the 360, the 360 is better, Sony suxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx etc..

Honestly. I probably view this forum a lot more than other members especially cause I post a lot of the news, and I have yet to see one of these posts you keep talking about, with 360 fans apparently posting "PS3/Sony suxxxxxx". You really do blow things out of proportion and for no reason at all. Everybody from the 360 section, Ironman for example, have posted nothing but mature comments with credability. What is it with hitting out at members with 360 gamertags in their sigs? Does it automatically click in your head they must be a fanboy cause they have it there? There is members with PS3/Steam sigs they have made and you don't seem to hit out at them?

i guess im just unlucky then, im on my second PS3 and have had my 360 repaired, this generation of consoles has been cruel to me, i never had a problem with my xbox or ps2.

Blu Ray was not important to me at first, obviously when you do not have something you do not know what you are missing, once i see the quality of movies on my 1080p set, i was shocked, casino royale was awsome. I do intend on purchasing a HD-DVD addon for 360 when prices drop, there are movies on HD-DVD that will never see the light of day on blu-ray and vise versa.

There are misconceptions about the PS3, but to understand them you got to have a PS3 yourself, the only complaint i have at the moment with my PS3 is that there are not enough "Blockbuster" titles. Come spring that should change, just give it time people.

but the fact is - there are design flaws. Both in the PS2 and the 360. Yes, they shouldn't be there - but they are.

So surely we (as customers) would prefer the company to admit to the problems that are there rather than to ignore the issues and pretend nothing is wrong? (which is what MS tried, but soon found it wouldn't work).

(and FYI, I have owned (and still do actually) a PS2, and was going to get a PS3 until I played a friends 360. It changed my mind simply because I could play next gen games there and then (this was before the PS3 was out), and wouldn't have to pay ?400 for the benefit and the 360 has more of the games I prefer (racing games and shooters mainly))

We have a Winner!!!

Just to be fair... those guys never tried to "pretend" anything. The nature of the problem made it impossible to know how many units would ultimately be affected, or how long it would take before a given console would fail due to the problem. Some would fail within days of being purchased, some over a year later. It's very difficult to quantify that or to even hit it in testing. If it were a simple problem like a bad chip or too much heat, then QA would have caught it. But to really identify this problem you'd have to simulate hundreds of powering on and powering off cycles - since it's the heating and cooling then heating then cooling that ultimately causes the board to flex and eventually crack / loosen a connection / etc. And even then, it would only ever happen to certain consoles.

Anyway, this topic wasn't about hardware failure rates. It was about the architectural limitations of the PS3 and how they prevent the PS3 from competing or surpassing the 360 in visual fidelity and performance.

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • Microsoft admits one of the most crucial Outlook features is currently broken by Sayan Sen Microsoft is making some decent progress when it comes to Windows 11. Recently we have confirmed reports of some rather useful improvements landing in the next version of the OS, 26H2, wherein GPU driver TDR crashes may finally be fixed, plus the company is also allowing users to disable web content on the Search. On the Outlook front though things have not been so rosy. Last month in May we reported several problems affecting basic functionalities on the app. These included a problem where documents would open blank or corrupt themselves. Following that, Quick Steps, a very useful feature, would no longer work correctly, and finally, Microsoft acknowledged a problem wherein images would fail to load up properly inside the email. Microsoft had resolved those bugs later and almost exactly a month after we reported on them, the company has now admitted a new similarly basic issue, this time on Macs. Users recently started noticing that Outlook would no longer display email threads properly as the original message itself was not displayed. An affected user Tsoumpas, C (ngmb) nicely described the problem in a forum post they made on Microsoft's site. They wrote: "Description of the issue: After updating Outlook for Mac [Version 16.110 (26061317)] on 18/6/2026, replying to any email no longer includes the original message in the reply window. Prior to the update, replies correctly contained the original email text below my response. Expected behavior: The original message should be included in the reply, as in previous Outlook versions and according to the configured reply settings. Actual behavior: The reply window contains only a blank composition area (or only my response), with none of the original email text included." Obviously this must be a highly frustrating for users as noted by several in that thread. The post, at the time of writing, has also been upvoted by more than 40 users indicating that is a fairly widespread bug. Thankfully Microsoft seems to have acknowledged the problem right around that time as it opened a new issue on its official website. In the support article, the company recommends switching to Outlook for Mac from the legacy app, where the problem appears to be happening.
