I always supported blu-ray anyway :D

My dads not going to be to pleased though, he just bought a top of the range denon HD player for over ?700>...

Wtf? What makes it cost that much? Sound system bundled in or something://

well it's definitely over.. I don't see HD DVD coming back from this.. a true shocker no doubt.. their decision is hardly fueled by business sense..

As I said, they wouldn't stay neutral for long.. I was pretty sure they would go HD DVD.

...What! I read through 3 pages for that response?!? What a crock of crap :p Just kidding.

I'm kinda disapointed at this especially as i was backing HD-DVD. Then again I just bought a PS3 so this is about the best news i could get. I have to say though, I'm quite surprised that this wasn't announced at CES?

Wow. I'd never pay that much for a disc player, but that's just me. If it's fairly recent can't he just return it?

They'll probably have a slew of other Blu Ray related things to bring up now, and are happy to get people interested BEFORE CES with an announcement like this.

Thanks for playing HDDVD, no one will miss you.

Except the HD-DVD diehards who won't let it go. And when I say diehard, I mean it with the most respect. I couldn't find a better word. :D

And I don't blame them. If Blu-Ray lost, I would not want to let go either.

Im not a diehard but like it was said before if the prices of the movies drop to dirt cheap than I'm gonna start buying em lol.

But none the less I will definitely be getting a Blu-Ray player in the future if it seems like it is now.

There still are some good movies that are on HD-DVD and not on Blu-Ray.

Except the HD-DVD diehards who won't let it go.

I wouldn't consider myself a diehard although I purchased a HD DVD player when it was $99, I'm glad the war is over but unhappy with who the winner is for reasons explained in my first post in the thread on the previous page. I think a lot of people are upset for the same reason (or if they had a significant HD DVD library).

Just happy we're starting to see a possible end of this format war, few of my local retailers refuse to stock any of the High-definition format because there is no "Definite" - Soon i can start getting Blu-ray discs in my local store, instead of getting them online and waiting a week.

I feel bad about the whole fighting, and that so many people will lose their investment, I guess you could say, but I'm just glad that their is an end in sight to this whole war.

PS I kinda edited the "diehard" comment, if it offended anyone. I apologize.

Wow. This is bad news. If Blu-Ray wins, the consumer will be stuck with Sony's inconsistant, expensive, DRM infested, proprietary format. Woo hoo!

However, I still say that if Toshiba or another company release a $99 or less player for an extended period of time very soon, HD-DVD may still have a shot. No one outside of early adopters are going to buy a $400 player, especially with the sub-prime mess we are in. If Blu-Ray wins, it will probably remain a niche format if the prices don't come down quickly enough. The average consumer certainly won't buy a $400 player, or a piece-of-juck $300 player, or a game console to watch movies. They'll consider a $99 player, and the lower-middle class a $50 player. That's a far cry from today's Blu-Ray player prices.

The Sony S300 and S500 can both me upgraded! Just burn the update to CD then put the CD in!

And most consumers will know/want to do that right before watching a new movie.

And the Samsungs, and the Panasonics, and the Pioneers, and the Sony standalones...

Don't know about the Philips or the LG ones. Sharp *just* came out with theirs...

Sony's PS3 updates have been much different because they add a lot of functionality.

The Sony S300 and S500 can both me upgraded! Just burn the update to CD then put the CD in!

It's amazing that pretty much everyone at avsforum, as an example, are all now going to wait for profile 2.0 players as current profile 1.1 players can't be upgraded (except for the PS3). Can they actually be upgraded to profile 2.0?

Like I said in my other post, firmware update don't bring new hardware to your player. If the player is not able to do Profile 1.1 in hardware, a firmware update won't help....

And it will be the same when Profile 2.0 comes out. Not all Profile 1.1 player will be able to get updated.

I don't think the loss of investment for people who bought HDDVD players is that bad, considering how good return policies are in the US.

I can see a whole bunch of HDDVD players being returned.

Not that it was that expensive to begin with.

Well personally I think Blu Ray won when Sony agreed to allow porn on it. :p

Costco is going to get raped with all the returned HD-DVD's

There is no reason at all to return HD DVD players because of this. They won't stop selling movies for it any time soon, and all of the HD DVD's people have in their collection won't stop working. I don't know why it's such a big deal. Right now HD DVD has a lot to offer, as does Blu Ray. People should still buy one, or both players. There really is nothing to lose other than your own entertainment by not buying the HD players.

    • Microsoft resumes forced Copilot app installation on some Windows PCs by Usama Jawad Late last year, Microsoft planned to begin the automatic installation of the Microsoft 365 Copilot app on certain Windows PCs. However, in March 2026, it disabled this process due to a technical issue and informed customers that it would let them know when it would resume. It seems like that was only a temporary respite, as the Redmond tech giant has started the forced installation of the app on eligible devices. In an update on its Message Center for IT admins, Microsoft has informed customers that it is resuming the automatic installation of the Microsoft 365 Copilot on commercial Windows PCs that have Microsoft 365 apps already installed. What this means is that if you have Microsoft Office apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more installed on your Windows PC through a Microsoft 365 license, you'll likely see the Microsoft 365 Copilot app pop up in your Installed Apps section soon, too. Fortunately, IT admins do have some control over this rollout. If they choose to opt out, devices in their tenant won't automatically get the dreaded Copilot app. However, phased rollout via feature flags has already begun and is expected to be completed by the end of June: Feature Flag1: started Jun 4, expected to finish June 10 Feature Flag2: expected to start on June 11, expected to finish on June 17 MSGraph schema rollout: expected to start on June 18, expected to finish on June 24 Feature Flag3: expected to start on June 25, expected to complete by July 1st Microsoft hasn't detailed what the process is to toggle the feature flags in its Message Center, and its public support page does not seem to mention it yet either. The Redmond tech giant has encouraged IT admins to let users know beforehand so they aren't caught by surprise to see a new app seemingly installed without manual interaction or their consent. Users who already have the app installed or are based in the European Economic Area (EEA) are unaffected by this move, which Microsoft has understandably flagged as a "major change".
