Cloverfield (2008)

Saw it last night and I'll break it down:

Monster: 5/5 stars (absolutely awesome monster)

Sounds/Score: 3.5/5 stars (the parasites actually sound like they're saying, "NOM NOM NOM")

Plot: 5/5 stars

Story: 3/5 stars

Graphics: 5/5 stars (absolutely awesome CGI)

This film can't be compared to Jurassic Park. While I didn't like the film Jurassic Park, I realize it's contributions to the film industry and this film isn't a classic and never will be.

With that said, I will probably watch this film only one more time and that's so I can pause it on my HDTV when it comes out on Blu-Ray.

Overall, the film gets 4.5/5.

It's a Paramount movie... no Blu-Ray, unless they switch and give back their money.

And I want to trust you... but you loved Dead Silence :p

i saw the midnight showing and it is a very intense movie. the acting was damn good

although my favorite part were the little monsters and the noises they made "nom nom nom" and "BEEEyaaaaaaaa"

and they were smart enough to make it a shorter than most 2 1/2 hour movies. it's only about 1 hour and 40 min

side note: this is one of those movies where people will say some stuff out loud during the movie. the crowd i was with did it a couple of times, both of which were very funny comments, and they kept it to a minimum so it actually made the movie experience much funner. but your crowd might not be as funny so be warned ;)

I don't want to get into this in this thread, but I never said I loved Dead Silence. For it's genre (clown/doll horror film) it was pretty good. But I'm sure that there are films I'd probably disagree with you on, that doesn't mean I won't take your opinion into account when seeing a completely different in a completely different genre (monster horror film). Just my two cents though...

This happened during Spider-Man 3. When Peter pushed MJ to the ground and then there was silence, one guy yelled, "Oh hell no!" While we don't use that kind of language, it made my wife and I laugh along with everyone else.

I can see that in my head and it made me lol.

This movie is good in theory but realy horrible in practice

i only liked one scene that was then they were on the side of the street and the army was shooting at them, that was it

the love story really sucked and would have been better if it wasnt revolved around it.

I think any monster movie that leaves me saying, now what did that thing look like again, has problems. I still have no idea what the thing looks like in it's entirety. Sure there were MANY round the building shots, one long overhead and the last time we see it shot.. (won't elaborate on that for those who still have not seen it). But again nothing to put it into full context in my mind.

I reserve total judgment for the extended cut but for now 4/5. Oh and too short.

Has anyone else seen The Host? Good one of you like this type of film.

Now that's weird, I just finished watching The Host. I like it. It explains where the monster originates from :p Cloverfield was more...immersive, thanks to the way it was filmed. The Host is great too :)

loved the movie and loved the creepiness. Some scenes definitely have the OMG factor to them.

but as many reviews already point it out.. you have to get comfortable with the amateur camera work in first 15 minutes because if you don't you'll be like the couple who walked out of the movie after 30 some minutes :p

oh and I'm not certain about the ratings. PG13 ? I don't think so

THe only reason why i didn't like it was because i went with my friends we got there late

and my friend almost ****ing threw up from the screen shot by a video camera because he has a sensitive stomach and the theatre smelled like popcorn and i had a headache for hours after + i had to work which sucked with a headache

i have to give this another chance.

^ to the guy above me i went to a huge movie threatre and it was not full at all but just wanted to say about 15 people walked out of the movie.

just watched it 3 hours ago,

Tons of people in the movie at the end were like we want our money back and that stuff, personally I thoroughly enjoyed it, I wanted more more more as stated above, the ending made me unhappy cause i wanted lots more info.

That monster looked ****ed. I love how the chick explodes. lol i find it amazing Lily is the only one to survive lol.

It was worth my 10$'s also i don't get why it spit out hud or hut or what ever his name was lol. why didn't it just eat him?

Well it was a great movie i hope they have some sort of a follow up on it or something crazy maybe a 2nd movie.

I sat at the very front of the movie theater and boy was my neck sore.

PS I wonder what kind of bombs they dropped on that f ucker? 1000 pounderz? one things for sure it wasn't a Nuc

yeah I wondered about the carpet bombs too. But as soon as the camera dumb dude was like "**** yeah take that" I knew something was coming but the ****** monster still made me jump in my seat lol

But now that I think about it, they should've added more monster in the movie. I understand the whole love is blind idea but it gets frustrating when they were on the building and the army was pounding the monster.. I wanna see the damn monster and not how they climb up the stupid roof!

Posting my opinion in this thread too.

Just saw the movie, it was pretty good although the filming style was HORRIBLE.

Besides being so shakey that you can hardly see anything half of the time, they even added extra blur just to make it even harder to see.

But the monster doesn't really look anything like what it does in the picture posted, doesn't even resemble a whale. And the louse things were a lot smaller than in the picture.

The ending was cut short and they never really showed the monster in detail until the end to obviously cut the production costs. The monster was cool though, they just didn't show it getting blown up enough, where it came from, how it became...etc.

Over all I think that this movie was worth watching though, it was entertaining and that is what a movie is for.

Can someone exlplain to me what the monster was and where it came from though?

Anyone else notice the last scene when they were on the ferris wheel when they looked out over the water the meteor that was in the sky?

I looked it up more, it seems that there was something that drops into the water when they are on farris wheel so it is for sure from space.

Well this is a MAJOR spoiler so remove it if it is too much.

Oh and guess what, there will most likely be a Cloverfield 2....

[i got the distinct impression that it bit him and he fell out in a couple pieces.

you saw the movie through the point of view of a $30 video camera!! what did you expect, an IMAX experience? the movie is SUPPOSED to look like that and it looked damn real.

they never explained it
