Cloverfield (2008)

Recommended Posts

Just saw this movie today, I loved it. I hadn't really followed the hype. I figured it looked pretty good, But it definatly exceeded my expectations.

Is there another scene after the credits or did I zone out??

There is a small recording in the end of the credits where you can hear Rob (maybe its him) saying: Help us! Played backwards it says "Its still alive!"

I missed it because I had to leave the theater right after the credits started rolling.

there's some parts that I don't understand

When the helicopter is higher than the monster, how did the monster managed to take it down? and also at the end, how did no one hear a giant monster walking up towards them? Think how heavy T-Rex is in Jurassic Park. Now think how big the monster is. The ground should be shaking!

I saw the movie yesterday. I WOULD have enjoyed it but the shakey camera threw me off and made me sick and dizzy xD. So I spent half the time eyes closed just listening to it and opening my eyes when something sounded interesting. I must say though that the storyline is pretty interesting and there's a wide variety of characters. I think I got sick because it was on the big screen, maybe if i watched it on DVD when it comes out, I can enjoy it better. ie take breaks in between etc. sucks though to have dizzyness and headaches when you're trying to enjoy the film.

i just saw this and all i can say they couldve done a lot better, but it didnt live up to the hype. How come the monster is different sizes throughout the movie? Like in the beginning he was about as high as a skyscraper, but at the end , the monster who ate the camerman was about a house tall?

I think people reaaaaaaally overhype things for themselves these days, I mean it's just a movie... Of course with the internet advertising is alot bigger and people seemed to get sucked into that.

I don't know, I'd have see it again to be sure, but I think he was the same size.

It could probably stand on its back legs

well even if it did, it wouldn't reach that height.

Maybe the helicopter pilot lowered the altitude when they saw the B2 bombs hit the monster, thinking that there was no more danger.

Either way, they were just flying over the roofs of the buildings, and we knew from the start that the monster was one big mofo.

Yeah but I mean he could cleanly take a building down so don't put it past him and as the previous comment said they did think the bombs killed the thing so he might of lowered it thinking we got it and boom down they go.

well I'm pretty sure it was seconds after we hear the monster hit the ground. It was all smoke.. so why would you lower your helicopter in, especially in a red zone, and in addition, you could hear the monster.

Overall, I thought it was a good and original film. Very good infact. And the reason you can compare this film to that of Pulp Fiction and The Matrix is because it's original. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a classic, because it's not. It was just extremely original and that's, for me at least, what made it so intresting.

Yes, it has it's faults - proportions here and there - and people may not like the camera work, but that's what makes Cloverfield, Cloverfield.

Will we find out where it came from? What it is? Maybe. The reason we didn't find out any of these during this film was because we were seeing things from their point of view, the view of people on the ground. They wouldn't have known much but the military would have.

8/10

You're last point there, is what makes the movie so great :)

Where the hell was the ending??!!!! God damn writers strike!!!

I disagree with you. A movie doesn't need a happy ending to be good and actually, the ending made it better for me.

Before going to the film I was actually quite sad because I don't like the idea of shaky cameras. However, once the movie started I actually started liking the concept because I felt as if I was in the movie instead of only watching. Especially the scene with the army shooting the monster behind them and then he, forgot his name, turns around was an eye-catch in my opinion.

You're right when you say this movie isn't the best ever but the "new" concept surprised me and made this movie a whole lot better. I would say that the camera view, the ending and the idea made the movie for me.

Cloverfield: 7,5/10

I really loved this movie. I couldn't see it working without the shaky cam. I also really liked the characters (something a lot of people seemed to hate).

Thats one thing my girlfriend said "it woulda been better if it was recorded like a normal movie" but i was like no way the whole shaky camera thing was one of the things that make this film so great u cudnt of gotten the same atmosphere recorded with a normal camera.

I was actually pretty suprised on how the monster actually looked i shuda had in my head on a Godzilla wannabe but this monster is def something i aint ever seen before the way it looks and how it moves....very freaky

    • You are clueless. The updates are done in the background so the next time you open Edge the updates are applied automatically. There is no need to close all your tabs. Just keep browsing like you normally do. Clearly you don't use Edge and are just one of those haters that complain for the sake of complaining.
    • I don't get this David. Can you explain it please.
    • Microsoft is busy. Lots of changes to be released imminently for Windows server or soon. Also, lots happening for next version as well. Third party virus scanning software is being moved out of Kernel mode to avoid repeat of Crowdstrike incident. Windows Protected Mode and Windows Ready Print no longer require third party print drivers to be installed. New storage stack being developed. New NVME drivers now available for Windows Server 2025 to improve local NVME drive performance by 60+ percent. NVME-Of of fabric being worked on for next release to improve network access to NVME drives. ReFs (next file system) now has ability to boot and will become default file system in next release of Windows Server. ReFs improves on NTFS in several areas including resiliency and reliability and scalability. New update stack is being worked on to unify Windows updates, and updates for drivers and first party/3rd party application software. A stricter and more robust third-party driver certification program (ODI) is being worked on to improve performance, thermals, battery life, and reliability on modern Windows hardware by tightening how OEMs and IHVs (Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, etc.) build and ship drivers. There is a tone more but too numerous to mention.
    • Now disable that stupid OneDrive backup request when Windows starts please. So unbelievably frustrating to only have “remind me later” instead of “no and never ask me again”
