Apple Releases 2 New "Get A Mac" Ads

Recommended Posts

Shadow Copy is not the same as Time Machine.

Shadow Copy is only available in Vista Ultimate, Business, and Enterprise editions of Windows Vista. Time Machine is available on all Macs. Shadow Copy only makes copies of files to the same hard drive as the file source. If you have a hard drive failure, Shadow Copy can't help you. Time Machine backs up files to a second hard drive. You need to use Automatic File Backup to backup files to a second hard drive. Neither Shadow Copy or Automatic File backup can be used to restore a bootable system though. With Time Machine, you can restore your backup to a new hard drive, similar to using Ghost or True Image. To get imaging capabilities in Vista, you need to use Windows Complete PC Backup, which again, is only available in Vista Ultimate, Business, and Enterprise.

To get the same functionality of Time Machine in Vista, you need Vista Ultimate, Business, or Enterprise, use Automatic File Backup to create scheduled backups of your files, and Complete PC Backup to make bootable images of your drive. Microsoft may provide feature parity with Time Machine, but it's not as elegant, and not in all versions of Vista.

That's one flaw with Time Machine.

The majority of computers Apple sells are Notebooks.

I can't use Time Machine because I can't keep a HDD plugged in all the time (or frequently enough for it to be worth it).

Shadow Copy in Windows runs on the same HDD which works perfectly for me.

Not so - Shadow Copy is available on all versions of Vista - the front-end interface is only available in said versions. You can access the shadow copies in all editions of Vista via a program like the free Shadow Explorer.

Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme + External HD, or an Xserve (for the extreme cases). They all get rid of that "flaw."

Jeez, shut up guys ;)

I use Vista, but that doesn't mean I get all pi$$y when Apple release an advert targetting Vista. In fact, I find it to be a good ad, both in terms of humour, and the way they represent the problems in vista.

But it's expensive to get rid of that flaw, isn't it? Convenient Apple disabled Time Machine so that you're pretty much limited to Apple branded hardware to get Time Machine to work the way it used to.

Yes, but in reality, hardly anyone is going to spend lots of money on those accessories. Only a small percentage (mostly the fanboys and die hard Apple fans) of MacBook/Air/Pro users are going to fully utilize this feature. Honestly, most desktop systems aren't even going to utilize this feature.

So no, it does not eliminate that "flaw".

EDIT: Damn, the above poster beat me to finish the post!

Opinions do not equal facts. Frankly, OS X was complete crap until 10.2. See? Now my opinion is fact.

Actually, OS X was crap until 10.3. 10.2 was absolutely awful, IMO.

Convenient they also enabled it with the Time Machine + AirPort and AirPort Extreme Driver updates ;)

I use XP, I dont like vista from the little I've used it and I've used OSX for about 2 hours and it didnt strike me as brilliant. At first these adverts were good (although they only advertise the product by 'de-advertising' another) but now they have just become annoying...

They could have got through the same amount of actual information in an advert saying 'Vista is crap' and 'Buy OSX because its wonderful' (This would have cost them a lot less time and money as well)

c'mon people, get a life, get a mac :D

It's annoying and smuggy statements like that which actually discourage many people from buying a mac. (Myself included)

And people are annoyed b/c frankly, Apple LIES in their ads. They are extremely annoying, filled with mis-information, and cater to the zealotry crowd.

Christ, they're just bloody ads, get over it already. 80% of ads are annoying & stupid anyway.

who said you need the External plugged in all the time,, i usually plug my time machine drive in every couple days i don't change files on my system THAT much for it to be plugged in constantly

Some of you guys are getting way to involved with this. Maybe this'll lighten the mood a little?:

"My girlfriend told me she's pregnant...

It was an April fools' joke though.

Joke's on her because I threw her down the stairs."

LOL, thread finally delivers!

They're not lies. Vista is having a lot of trouble at the moment and it certainly doesn't help that PC hardware comes from all different places. Sure it means customizability, but it also warrants more work to get it all going and get it all going well for an extended amount of time.

vista is not having problems. the problem really is people install it on machines that clearly cant handle it. i have been running vista since it came out with zero issues.

    • 26H2 absolutely will support ARM Windows just not on devices that came with 26H1. This is evident by the fact I am running 26H2, which on my MacBook Neo and Surface Pro 12 (inch), within a VM.

    • The FIFA World Cup is not US centric.
    • It’s amusing how Microsoft is pushing IT admins as if this was a major, game-changing update. In reality, it’s just an enablement package that bumps the build number, which is disappointing compared to the more substantial 22H2 and 24H2 releases. Technically, 25H2, 26H1, and the upcoming 26H2 are essentially the same, differing only in support schedules. They could have included the Windows K2 improvements here, but chose not to. The era of Windows being in the backburner continues, and this 26H2 release feels like an afterthought. Shame, Nadella, shame.
    • Microsoft, totally not confusing /s 25H2 - Current for non-Arm based Windows 26H1 - Current for Arm based Windows 26H2 - Only for non Arm Windows
