Released Version 1.0.5

  • Replaced the method of getting the window handle, now any DOM node and be used. Thanks to Canyonero for the method used to do this.
  • Now the Visual C Runtime is not longer required.
  • Added 1px extra padding to the bottom of the #nav-bar

I get the same thing here eventhough I have installed the c++ files. Since I am on Vista 64 bit I tried both the x86 and the x64 package. Still no go:(

Running this on vista x 64 just fine.

I'm using the latest build from here:

http://www.mozilla-x86-64.com/download.html

Since I am on Vista 64 bit, what will I benefit from using Firefox 64 bit? Less memory usage, better\faster performance?

Also, it looks like when using the explorer toolbar code in userchrome, the text is not using clear-type. Any way to fix that?

Hi Everyone,

I've made Aqua and Black themes for this extension. Find them in the attached ZIP.

Absolutely brilliant!

I registered just to thank you too:)

I hope I'm not repeating someone else, but this thing should not be an extension!

It should be part of Firefox 3! What they have at the moment offends my eyes;)

No, x64 applications will actually use about more memory than their x86 counterparts (but this is also mostly true for x86 running on an x64 OS so no real change there.)

You will not see any kind of performance increase either. At least not more than you would see with other unofficial PGO optimized builds made to benefit from SSE-extensions of current x86 CPUs. And Firefox 3 will make these mostly superfluous as well.

So there is basically no benefit from running an x64 build of Firefox. But there are significant drawbacks like the lack of just about any 64-bit version of all common plugins like Flash or even Java.

So no benefits, but lots of hassle ... so if you are a masochist, by all means, go for it. ;)

This is a little different for 64bit versions of Linux but you didn't ask that.

6XGate, you are my hero! This is simply amazing! I have been waiting for this for so long, I am so glad you did it... Have been running for one day with no problems whatsoever, using this with Carl Booth's black theme, along the Safari-like loading bar ("Fission" extension but with a Vista theme) . I am NOT touching Internet Explorer EVER AGAIN!

It's using Clear-Type, it's just not shadowing it which Firefox doesn't support any CSS for yet.

I have now added more personal bar styles for that look like Media Player, Explorer, or Windows Mail/Calendar.

Is there a reason why the Menu Bar is differently styled? i.e. why can't the menu bar also be glassed; coz if that is done, we will no need to use any other extension to hide it.

This may be of interest to some people, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950683

Action

Installing the Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (VCRedist_x86.exe, VCRedist_x64.exe, VCRedist_ia64.exe) for Visual Studio 2008 RTM.

Result

Following files are generated on the system root directory :

install.exe

install.res.1028.dll

install.res.1031.dll

install.res.1033.dll

install.res.1036.dll

install.res.1040.dll

install.res.1041.dll

install.res.1042.dll

install.res.2052.dll

install.res.3082.dll

vcredist.bmp

globdata.ini

install.ini

eula.1028.txt

eula.1031.txt

eula.1033.txt

eula.1036.txt

eula.1040.txt

eula.1041.txt

eula.1042.txt

eula.2052.txt

eula.3082.txt

vc_redist.msi

vc_redist.cab

Cause

These temporary files are erroneously generated by the installer into the system root directory instead of the temp directory.
