GTAIV - PS3 vs 360

Recommended Posts

I purchased both the PS3 version and the 360 version, and I have to say the PS3's graphics are better (the lighting seems to be way more realistic), but I have to say because of this the frame rates do suffer. Also I noticed on the 360 the colours seem to be more vibrant, and I didn't change any of the display settings so that I found weird.

Disclaimer: my eyes are different from yours and this is just what I saw with mine while playing both versions. :p

The framerate is about the same on both versions really, not a major concern for either.

I agree that the colours look slightly better on the 360, but you can alter than in the settings.

Dithering is to do with colours..

Rendering distant objects? Where did you come up with that?

As I said, much to learn :p

It affects how distant objects look, so maybe my wondering wasn't great im not a developer. However I think you knew what I meant ;)

And which do you prefer?

Both are fine.

I prefer the backdrops looking blurry as opposed to like a painting, but it's a minor detail.

I certainly wouldn't base my purchase on any small graphical quirks between the two, if you want my opinion.

Nope, I think you've got it all wrong lol. Dithering is the process of using dots to represent colours in a scale (somebody like Kushan may be better at explaining this). If you go back and look at those lovely images, the dithering on the 360 is a lot more noticeable than the PS3. i.e you can see the dots on the 360 whereas the PS3 version uses a much better dithering effect making the colours more seamless

I've already agreed it's nothing to do with rendering as such. I used that word wrong.

However it DOES affect how things look in this distance, more so than up close on screen.

That's what I meant, it affects the rendered objects in the distance.

You've seen it already?

It's a given the PC version will look better with the resolution able to be defined by us, and also the AA defined by us.

However a monster PC will no doubt we needed, which is the trade off you get with a console, it saves you money.

we should also be able to turn of the bloom effects, making the game sharper

I'm not a fan of bloom, think its a cheap way of covering bad texturing in games. also motion blur, we get that naturally, no need to simulate it.

Are there any screenshots etc yet?
