Captain America: The First Avenger (July 2011)

looks like things have changed again today....

Chris Evans Joins Captain America Race, John Krasinski Out

Will the roller-coaster that is the casting for Captain America ever end? Earlier today we reported that ?The Office? star John Krasinski was the frontrunner to take on the title character in the live action flick, now we?re hearing that he?s not even in the running and Chris Evans is. So we?ve gone from Jim to The Human Torch, damn these actors with their cross-comic roles. Do you see what Ryan Reynolds has started?

According to Deadline Hollywood, Marvel is still actively looking for the right actor to star in The First Avenger: Captain America, and John Krasinski isn?t it (Thank God!). They must have heard the murmurs from the fan community, because even though he?s a great comedic actor he was not going to cut it as Steve Rogers. Besides him we?re hearing that the other actors who were shortlisted, Chace Crawford, Scott Porter, Michael Cassidy, and Patrick Flueger are no longer candidates.

The role has been narrowed down to three actors, Chris Evans, Mike Vogel (Cloverfield), and Garrett Hedlund (Tron Legacy). Hedlund was on the original wish-list of actors the producers wanted for the part but he never formally auditioned. Apparently, his reps balked at the idea of him signing for 9 future films and a base salary of around $300,000.

Out of these three, Hedlund?s not going to do it for me. I loved Evans as Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four movies (he was the only thing I loved), but like Ryan Reynolds I?m going to need him to pick one franchise and stick to it. So, Mike Vogel will be the only way to go on this one. Even though he?s been steadily acting for the last decade he?s not a big name, and he isn?t the face of a previous franchise.

Hm... Chris Evans could be good.

But I'm a little surprised that they wanted to sign Hedlund to 9 films... What's with that? I know they've done 3 or 4 in the past, but 9 is an awful lot. I can't imagine an actor making such a commitment... ??

While Marvel Studios still has yet to announce their final choice for Captain America, they have revealed their choice to play the film?s villain. HeatVision reports that Hugo Weaving (The Matrix, Lord of the Rings) is in final talks to play the villainous Red Skull in The First Avenger: Captain America.

In the comic books, Red Skull is Johann Shmidt, appointed by Adolf Hitler as the ?head of Nazi terrorist activities with an additional large role in external espionage and sabotage.? According to Marvel.com:

?Hitler gave Schmidt an unique uniform with a grotesque red skull mask, and he emerged as the Red Skull. His role was the embodiment of Nazi intimidation, while Hitler could remain the popular leader of Germany. ? He was spectacularly successful, wreaking havoc throughout Europe in the early stages of World War II. The propaganda effect was so great that the United States government decided to counter it by creating their own equivalent using the recipient of the lost Project Rebirth, Steve Rogers, Captain America. The two counterparts soon clashed in what would be a series of engagements throughout the war, ending with a final battle that left the Skull buried under the rubble of a bombed building. Because he was immediately exposed to an experimental gas there, he remained in suspended animation for decades. Johann was eventually rescued in modern times by the terrorist organization, HYDRA. The Skull quickly subverted a cell to his own ambitions of world conquest and the death of Captain America. ?

yeah they need a big name for ole captain, that's for sure.

just in...ed norton says there has been communication with him from marvel about the avengers. this must mean they want him to play banner again....YES! from the sounds of it he is interested too!

Hm... That's good. I know he was signed on for multiple movies (I thought 3), so I was expecting to see him in the Avengers movie (They were definitely setting that up with the clip at the end of The Hulk's credits...), but I would be curious to know if another Hulk movie is planned as well...

And I heard recently that Robert Downey Jr. is signed on for 4 movies, so I wonder if they're planning to do two Avengers movies... Hulk really isn't that interesting a character to hold a movie on his own I think... Or at least difficult to develop a good storyline around. Though in fairness I've never been a fan, so that's my opinion...

there's going to be a 3rd Iron Man, Favreau said he had ideas for 3

There will only be 1 Avengers I think, it will do well because it will have all the Heroes but I think the scope is just enough for one, it's taken enough planning and joining to get just one off then ground.

but lets not forget Sam Jackson signed a 9 movie deal with Marvel so who knows!

He did? Wow. 9 movies is probably the biggest deal I've seen so far. That's a lot. I wonder where else he'll pop up. Do these cameos count? Because he appeared in Iron Man and Hulk...

yeah if he appears in the movie that's one of them, he's not confirmed for Thor but S.H.I.E.L.D is heavily mentioned

Oh wow, I didn't know they were planning a S.H.I.E.L.D. movie... That really isn't that exciting to me personally... But I guess it could be good... I guess no Hasselhoff this time, so that would be a plus at least... lol

As for Thor, I'd be willing to bet he'll make a cameo somewhere. Like he did with Hulk. Him and Robert Downy Jr. seem to be the glue for the Avengers movie... But that said, if they have Robert Downy Jr. signed for 4 movies and cameos count, then he had a cameo in Hulk too... So Iron Man, Hulk, Iron Man 2, and Avengers would be all 4 of his movies...

he's not in the script that's been passed for filming, check the Thor thread it mentions about the cameo from SHIELD

While thats nice to hear from him. It's always been assumed they want him back. It was whether or not he will come back or not. Things didn't end very smoothly with Hulk. They cut a lot of the stuff out that he thought were key elements to the movie. While I understand Marvel wanting to bulk up the action after the previous film. It was already significantly better. I would have been happy to sit back and let them tell the story instead of jam it full of explosions and effects. That being said I really hope he returns. Hulk will be in Avengers either way, but I'd prefer he didn't stay green the whole time or they recast Banner.

As for Cappy. I'm not sure they need a big name. Especially if they are looking for a young actor. Most of the big name young guys that come to mind would really ruin it. I think a more unknown route would be fine as long as the person looked the role. I suppose one good thing we can take away from them holding back on announcing the full cast is they haven't settled. Considering all the bad choices we've heard I'm glad they didn't just settle months ago.

And there's not a SHIELD movie. Rappy was referring to how SHIELD is mentioned throughout Thor so it would seem we'd see Nick Fury.

well alot of fans feel if the cap role isn't cast this week the film may be in some sort of delay or trouble. the lead role was suppose to be cast over 2 weeks ago. i hope this doesn't screw up the release date?

and after seeing some manips of chris evens as cap, im sold on him!

    • Microsoft adds reusable skills and finance data connectors to Copilot in Excel by Karthik Mudaliar Microsoft is giving Copilot in Excel a collection of new features aimed squarely at finance teams. The update introduces reusable instructions for common tasks, connections to services such as FactSet and Morningstar, and a better way to review what Copilot intends to do before it starts changing a workbook. The most interesting addition is 'Skills' finally coming to Copilot in Excel. Skills let companies teach Copilot how to handle a recurring process, so employees do not need to write the same detailed prompt every month. Users can create skills that can specify the steps Copilot should follow, along with the required layout, formulas, and formatting. Microsoft says users can create their own skills by saving a SKILL.md file in OneDrive. The file is written using Markdown and tells Copilot when and how to perform the task. Once it is available, a user can select the skill in the Copilot pane or mention it in a prompt using the @ symbol. There is also a library of prebuilt finance skills for customers who do not want to create their own. Microsoft plans to let developers distribute additional skills through the Microsoft Marketplace and the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, with LSEG, Ramp, Rogo, samaya.ai, Velixo, and Vena among the first partners involved. The company says that it is also expanding the external data that Copilot can access from inside Excel. New connectors are being added for CB Insights, Daloopa, FactSet, Morningstar, PitchBook, and S&P Global data through technology developed by Kensho. There is a catch, however. Accessing these services may require a separate subscription from the relevant data provider, so a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence will not necessarily unlock all of them. FactSet is also only available in preview for now, with general availability planned for July. Microsoft is also trying to make Copilot’s workbook edits easier to inspect. Users can switch to a planning mode that shows which sheets, cell ranges, formulas, and assumptions Copilot intends to work with before it begins making changes. Once the work is complete, the Show Changes pane can distinguish edits made by Copilot from those made by human collaborators. The update continues Microsoft’s push to turn Excel Copilot from a chatbot into an agent that can carry out longer tasks. The company previously added an Agent Mode capable of planning and completing multi-step Excel work. Microsoft also recently acquired financial AI startup Fintool, another indication that finance is becoming a key target for its Excel AI strategy. Prebuilt skills, personalization, workbook rules, external connectors, planning mode, and Copilot attribution in Show Changes are generally available to Microsoft 365 Copilot customers using Excel on the web, Windows, and macOS. Custom skills are initially available to Microsoft 365 Insiders on Windows and Mac starting today. Microsoft plans to make them generally available across Windows, Mac, and the web over the next month. Partner-built skills are expected during the third quarter of the year. Availability may still differ depending on region and licensing.
    • Exactly. They serve different (although related) purposes.
    • Do not enter the code under any circumstances, or you will be sorry. It's definitely and most likely a hacking attempt.  That happened to me a couple of years ago, and I kept receiving those prompts for months. It's simply the attacker trying to get you tired of the constant requests, so you just give up and enter the code, so they can log in to your account.
