BioShock PS3 confirmed

Recommended Posts

The rumours are true: critically acclaimed Take-Two shooter BioShock is finally, definitely coming to PlayStation 3.

Details are thin on the ground at the moment (i.e. there are none), but the next issue of UK PlayStation mag PSM3 - which is on UK newsstands June 5 - promises a lengthy preview of the PS3 version along with a depth charge of screenshots.

The highly lauded shooter was originally an Xbox 360 exclusive, but rumours of a PS3 version have been surfacing even before its release.

We called Take-Two's UK office who would only give us a flat "no comment". That being the case, expect an official announcement somewhere down the line.

There's another European mag that's touting the game in its upcoming issue too. We're beginning to see a pattern emerging here...

We've no idea what, if anything, the PS3 version will get in the way of extra content. The only extra stuff 360 and PC versions got post-release were new plasmids. But frankly we had such a bloody good time exploring Rapture on PC and 360 that we're well up for another dive on PS3.

I say what is the point. The game has been and gone last August and they had anytime before Christmas to release it. Personally i think it is a waste of time when they could just bring BioShock 2 to the PS3 or something.

No doubt it will run at lower Resolution and have no AA enabled like many games compared to 360 (This isn't a bash at PS3, it might look like it but it is the truth)

Bioshock isn't in the same league as the MGS saga ;)

I hope this is a joke. I mean both games can't be compared but i said it once and ill say it again, the best MGS was the first one. Where this great Saga u talk of? MGS2 and MGS3 were beyond poor. I am not saying MGS4 will be though and i hope it's not.

The point is, not everybody bought a 360. The PS3 will get Bioshock and Bioshock 2.

As for the whole porting thing, maybe, maybe not - they may actually invest some time and do a proper job and implement those things in. The PS3 is more than capable.

Did you not read my post above? I was talking about ease of porting.

If you two want to challenge me on importance anyway, I'll admit I do believe the MGS saga (spanning 6 main games, and what 3/4 portable now?) is much bigger than the one title that Bioshock is - That's not comparing how good the games are, it's comparing their fanbase and size.

And I wouldn't expect you to think any differently.

He meant from a porting point of view.

Its your opinion on MGS2 and 3. Personally I found them all to be excellent.

I meant in terms of being easily ported.

Ah I see

As for Bioshock, I wouldn't count on a fantastic port tbh, especially when 2K are working on a sequel and they only advertised for PS3 developers after the game was released. Anyone who works with software dev knows that it's a royal pain trying to work out how something was built that you never worked on yourself.

But good to see it reach another audience (Y)

Oh i think maybe it will just by looking at every game released thus far on both PS3 and X360. I never said the PS3 wasn't more than capable, just it will run inferior probably to the X360, just like the PC version outruns the X360 version with the right hardware.

I have no doubts It'll look amazing, but as many developers has said, porting a 360 Game to Playstation 3 is a lot more difficult than the other way around. So I'm almost sure we are gonna see some downscaling, texture, resolution or other.

I agree. While the main Developers will be working/or probably already working on BioShock 2 they will pass on the development code to someone else in 2K games to port it, hence why i think the PS3 version will be inferior.

come to think of it, bioshock is UE3 based right? UT3 on PS3 looks and plays fantastically, all the hard work of bringing the game over to the PS3 codebase is essentially there.

That's a fair point, can anyone confirm it does run on the Unreal 3 engine?

    • You're absolutely right! No reason in hell these should be on the road!
    • They aren't going to want to. Most would just go with the 17 Pro and save money. Why would they want to spend $300 for basically the same thing? It's not worth it if there are hardly any changes from year to year.
    • 24H2 rolled out to the Release Preview Channel in early June 2024, so this coming a bit later in the Experimental Channel (formerly Dev) doesn't really say much more than earlier H2 releases that came out in October. I am not sure what the thinking is here by putting it in Experimental, one would think that the 26H2 stamp means features are locked down and it's now bug tested until October? I don't even pretend to understand Microsoft's strategy for Windows Insider Program though
