BioShock PS3 confirmed

I don't get why some people in here are getting their panties in a knot. If you already have it for the 360 or PC, what does it matter to you? The PS3 owners are getting it far later... is that not some sort of consolation if you really despise the PS3 or something? (N)

Different strokes, different folks!

I love both :)

Exactly.. the whole "no game is like MGS4" is getting totally ridiculous LOL.

The game is totally chaotic, with the storyline and gameplay as some latino soap opera where the wife is sleeping with the stepson and the father is sleeping with the wife's sister who turns out to be his relative and in all that we have monkeys and people dumping in cans. :)

It's totally subjective game and is hyped up beyond recognition. It's a solid game, that appeals to niche audience (MGS3 Snake Eater sold at measely 3.5 million copies out of like 80 million PS2s), so it's obvious that there are a lot of better games out there. For example, GTA4 wipes the floor with MGS4 just on account of fun factor and those special moments where you really feel you are in a living breathing city or some movie.

I'm totally having problems playing MGS3 for example through controls, camera etc etc.

On the other hand, Bioshock is a MASTERPIECE. The visuals, the story, the gameplay. Stunning.

Bioshock, GTA4, COD4 and even upcoming Battlefield Bad Company are all better games then MGS series. Hell I'd even say that I love Drake Uncharted better then MGS4 from what I've played in the beta.

and surely, MGS4 as you say, just as Bioshock coming to PS3, will come to Xbox 360 eventually. What idiot would pass on 20 million console market? Konami was already speculating a while back that they will be relasing it on Xbox 360 and that's with reason. They would sell at least twice more copies on Xbox 360 then on PS3 as we've already witnessed with many other titles.

Who knows, maybe Kojima goes and actually makes his vision possible on Xbox 360 since he wasn't able to do it on PS3 due to hardware problems. That's why they say that this MGS is not the final one. Next one is coming to Xbox 360 and is called "MGS4 Special Proper Version - Guns of The Superiors - The vision fullfilled." Courage is solid. :D

Agreed.

Its your opinion on MGS, thats fine. Many people love it.

As for the above quote. I do hope you are joking.

You do realise jumping to a 50GB disc increases development costs over a 25GB disc?

That's a great reason to lie, increase your development costs. Wohoo.

Regardless of what Kojima uses, does it really matter? If it's audio/video, big deal. He wanted to use that sort of space, and if it's down to high quality audio, power to the developer for being able to use high quality audio.

I find it laughable that people will downplay advances in gaming, regardless of how small they are in your opinion (compressing in high quality audio for example), just so they can make the decision of using high sized discs look bad or "fake".

If MGS4 has high quality audio and that only benefits 10% of the PS3 base with expensive sound systems, then again, power to the developer.

That's 10% of people with nice support for their sound system, and a game that has a futureproof for other PS3 owners when they may invest in high quality audio systems.

You make it sound like Hideo Kojima is the ONLY one inside Konami developing the game lol. He can use whatever he wants. Advances in technology are fine and the PS3 has the ability for Lossless Audio but all Hideo Kojima has been moaning about in the past is how a Blu-ray 50GB disc is not enough space for HIS game. When the Blu-ray disc is ripped on release i bet you can expect alot of replicated files found on other games and that would be all down to the slow BR drive. So that alone would throw the 50GB needed theory out the window. We will see on that though.

I know that he is well respected all over the world but for you do say that he has no reason to lie is completely wrong. EVERYONE lies.

Then how is the PS3 "stealing exclusives" ?

You get what i mean. They have grabbed a least a dozen games that already appeared on XBOX360/PC when they have been out for months!

I am not downplaying PS3 ok, just saying that rather than try and use games that already appeared on other competitors, it should be trying to get their own. MGS4 is one, but it needs alot more than a few games.

And the problem with this is....? Honestly, you are so biased its untrue.

Yeah everyone lies, but Kojima lieing to his wife, is different from him lieing about his game

I didn't mean the guy will never tell a porky.

If you read about him, you'll know how much of a perfectionist he is, and that he's very humble and will criticise his work even when people will say it's the second coming of God.

Unlike other developers who are the ones saying their game is the second coming of God, and not the fans.

What?

The PS3 has it's own exclusives, and it will have many more.

You don't see any of us on NW running around saying the 360 "stole" DMC.

So I don't see what your point is other than to ruffle some feathers, and throw a bit of slap the PS3s way - And in reality anyway, this will have been TakeTwo's decision. I'm sure Sony are looking into more pressing matters like their own exclusives and lineup, as opposed to chasing a 1 year old title.

Not many details are being shared online, although EGM does point out that there are "some potential graphical improvements" and that it will be out for the "2008 holiday season".

Christmas release anyone?

Perfectionist or not, MGS4 is not the second coming of god. Boz already stated there are much better games out. Not to say MGS4 not be great though (which i hope it will be)

MGS is not for everyone and Sony might be lucky to see only a quarter of their install base actually pick up the game, while others couldn't give a toss.

I mean DECENT Exclusive games, Haze doesn't doesnt count. Yes there a few but it's not anywhere near enough is it? I knew somewhere along the line someone was going to drop in DMC4 in this argument.

Ruffles some feathers? You have got to be having a laugh.

You think Sony don't care about this? This will be a huge seller for them, probably more so that prehaps MGS4 itself (although highly unlikely)

MGS is not for everyone

Exactly. Thats why you cant say that there are "better" games since the MGS series has a very specific niche, unlike those games mentioned.

Saying that are "better" games with such authority its just childish arrogance and its stubborn. One thing its to have an opinion and another very different thing its to lose objectivity just for the sake of have such opinion.

MGS4 isn't in our hands and you're already telling me there is "much better" games out?

MGS4 isn't for everyone, but I doubt it's going to be topped easily on story, depth and the visual/audio experience. It's going to be good in those areas if the reviews/previews are to go by. Maybe not the best ever, but you're talking about it like it's going to be a mediocre game!

Last time I checked the first whole host of MGS4 reviews are extremely good, and all previews have been excellent.

Bioshock selling more on the PS3 than MGS4?

Seriously, I mean, what on EARTH did you eat with your breakfast this morning?

Neowin is like a comedy show at times, as I said earlier, where is my damn popcorn...

PiracyX - Newsflash. Bioshock isn't a 360 exclusive.

How on earth would it 'damage' the PS3? You do talk some rubbish.

Talk about your own bias.

As of right now.. it is exclusive.. and by the time it does come out for PS3 it will be like previous generation of game (same thing with MGS4, even not confirmed, you can bet your behind it will be released on Xbox 360. If they don't, now THAT would be a pinnacle of stupidity) that will just show how inferior and late PS3 is in general getting old releases late. Not to mention the fact that this version might as well be scared and performance limited that will once again show the downsides of PS3 as a gaming machine when compared to Xbox 360.

Bioshock is not exclusive now.

As for the rest. Rubbish.

but I doubt it's going to be topped easily on story, depth and the visual/audio experience.

LOL.. if you like latin style soap operas then the story is truly unbelievable and deep. It's absolutely ridiculous and cheesy as hell.

as for visual and audio experience.. we already see that Bioshock tops it, any new game tops it.. Gears of War 2 tops hell Killzone 2 will utterly make MGS4 look like Wii game :)

Bioshock is not exclusive now.

I mean for console.. it's only available on Xbox 360.

You have it on PS3?

Audio you make me laugh sometimes.....

So you are saying that i am talking about MGS4 as being a mediocre game (which i am not) and you are talking about it being the game of all games! I know you are looking forward to it so much, please don't let this cloud your judgement.

MGS4 will not sell as well as you think it will sell or at least YOUR expectations. MGS4 has always been quite a niche game, Boz already explained this with MGS3. Whether it gets outstanding reviews or medicore reviews it will have to sell and again i think it won't sell as well as expected.

I don't think stating Bioshock outselling MGS4 is impossible, but it would it alittle unfair since that game came out already on two platforms last year. All i am saying it will sell extremely well when launched on the PS3.

Would you be kind to read what I wrote? Sure it's available on PC.. but PC is not a console. We are talking about console here. So, it's EXCLUSIVE to Xbox 360 out of 3 consoles.

I actually had this thread open a few minutes before replying, hence why I didn't see your other post where you stated it was a console exclusive.

Also can anyone dig up some current sales figures for Bioshock on both PC and 360?

T2 announced in December sometime they had shipped 2 million copies (combined 360 & PC)

I wish 360 owners were not jealous and ruin our fun with bioshock.. I played it on my PC with a 8800 gtx and love the game. but i hate playing games on PC so i will buy the PS3 version for sure.

Although i believe PS3 overall is superior to XBOX 360, i am still believing that game developers can not put PS3 up to its full potention yet...

And also when Home and ın game XMB comes out the difference between ps3 and 360 will be like a lamborghini reventon vs Kia

Anyway.

thumbs up for Bioshock for PS3... But if they make it a port like as Orange box, i would be angry.

    • Is the article messed up? I understand 26H2 is in Beta, now Build 28020.2308. I'm not even sure what this is supposed to mean: "..... Microsoft is officially moving the Experimental Channel to version 26H2." And...would you please fix your graphics. They are outdated and don't fit the article.
    • The Light of Life? We actually do glow till our Death, study finds by Sayan Sen Image by Rafael Rendon via Pexels A study by researchers at the University of Calgary has found that living organisms produce an extremely faint light known as ultraweak photon emission, and that this glow appears to drop significantly after death. The research was published in the Journal of Physical Chemistry in April 2025 and quickly drew widespread attention, leading to more than 200 news stories about the findings. Ultraweak photon emission (or UPE), sometimes called biophoton emission, refers to tiny amounts of light released by living cells as a result of normal biological activity. A photon is the basic particle of light, and researchers say every living system examined so far, including plants and animals, has been found to emit these photons. The glow is far too faint to be seen by the human eye. “I suppose it has a little to do with people being reminded of auras,” says Dr. Christoph Simon, PhD, one of the authors of the study and a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy in the Faculty of Science. “It is a fact that living beings glow. It’s a very weak glow, but it’s there and visible with very sensitive cameras.” According to the study, the light involved is extremely weak, ranging from 10 to 1,000 photons per square centimetre per second across a spectral range of 200 to 1,000 nanometres. For comparison, a nanometre is one-billionth of a metre and is commonly used to measure wavelengths of light. Detecting emissions at such low levels requires highly specialized equipment. To study the phenomenon, researchers used electron-multiplying charge-coupled device (EMCCD) and charge-coupled device (CCD) cameras. These imaging systems are designed to detect extremely small amounts of light, including individual photons, while minimizing background noise. The technology allowed researchers to capture signals that would otherwise be impossible to observe. The team worked with the Human Health Therapeutics Research Centre at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) in Ottawa to examine photon emissions in mice. Researchers took two-hour exposure images of the animals before and after death and compared the results. “We saw that the level of light that they emit – this biophoton glow – is distinctly different between living and dead animals,” says Dr. Daniel Oblak, PhD, an associate professor in Physics and Astronomy and the corresponding author of the study. The images showed a clear decrease in photon emissions after death across the entire body of each mouse. According to the researchers, this provided direct evidence that living and dead tissue produce different levels of ultraweak photon emission. “It’s a very small amount and it’s, of course, very tricky to detect,” Oblak says. The study grew out of discussions between Simon, whose research interests include quantum biology, and Oblak, whose work focuses on detecting light for quantum communication experiments. Quantum biology is a field that explores whether processes described by quantum physics, which studies matter and energy at very small scales, may also play a role in living systems. “Since I work as a quantum physicist on light detection for quantum communication, I thought that experimentally we have a lot of the tools to be able to detect the light,” Oblak explains. The researchers also investigated UPE in plants and found that the light changed in response to stress. When plants were exposed to higher temperatures or physically injured, their photon emissions increased. Chemical treatments also affected the glow. Among the substances tested, the local anesthetic benzocaine produced the strongest emission response when applied to injured plant tissue. These findings suggest that ultraweak photon emission is closely linked to biochemical and metabolic activity inside living organisms. Metabolism refers to the chemical reactions that allow cells and organisms to stay alive and function. Because these reactions change when an organism experiences stress, injury or disease, researchers believe UPE may provide a way to monitor those changes. The researchers stress that the glow is a physical and biological phenomenon, not a metaphysical one. Oblak says more research is needed to understand exactly how the light is produced and what information it may reveal about the condition of living tissue. “We must understand what that is to figure out what’s happening,” he says. “If we can understand how that relates to certain influences on the body – stress, diseases – then that could be used as a diagnostic tool.” The researchers believe the technique could eventually help scientists study health and disease without invasive procedures. Because UPE can be measured without adding dyes, markers or labels, it may offer a way to monitor whether tissue is healthy, damaged or alive. In plants, it could help researchers better understand how organisms respond to injury, heat and other forms of stress. While the work is still in its early stages, the study demonstrates that ultraweak photon emission imaging can provide a non-invasive and label-free way to observe biological activity. Researchers say the approach could become a useful tool for studying vitality, stress responses and other important processes in both animals and plants. • Rufus 4.15.2393 Beta 2 by Razvan Serea Rufus is a small utility that helps format and create bootable USB flash drives, such as USB keys/pendrives, memory sticks, etc. Despite its small size, Rufus provides everything you need! Oh, and Rufus is fast. For instance it's about twice as fast as UNetbootin, Universal USB Installer or Windows 7 USB download tool, on the creation of a Windows 7 USB installation drive from an ISO (with honorable mention to WiNToBootic for managing to keep up). It is also marginally faster on the creation of Linux bootable USBs from ISOs. A non-exhaustive list of Rufus supported ISOs is available here. It can be especially useful for cases where: you need to create USB installation media from bootable ISOs (Windows, Linux, UEFI, etc.) you need to work on a system that doesn't have an OS installed you need to flash a BIOS or other firmware from DOS you want to run a low-level utility Rufus 4.15.2393 Beta 2 changelog: Add RISC-V 64 support to UEFI:NTFS Improve the guards for using the "silent" option Improve the ability to cancel during write retries Improve progress reporting for compressed image extraction Fix unrestricted XML entity expansion and integer overflow in ezxml parser (courtesy of @esadowski4) [GHSA-55r2-34wg-8mv9] Fix "silent" Windows installation failing at 75% in most cases [#2960] Fix a crash during boot when using UEFI:NTFS on Snapdragon X based ARM64 platforms [#2934] Fix the first WUE option always being checked by default [#2965] Fix an infinite loop when using Windows ISOs that contain multiple WIMs Fix "Enable runtime UEFI media validation" checkbox not always being properly enabled Other WUE improvements/fixes for OneDrive removal and username validation (with thanks to @christian8641) [#2984, #2991] Download: Rufus 4.15 Beta 2 | 1.9 MB (Open Source) Links: Rufus Home Page | Project Page @GitHub | Screenshot Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
