Im really considering getting one when it comes out in Canada on the 11th. I really wanted a new phone and ipod touch. This is the best choice. I just want to see the rate plans on rogers before I make a decision, and knowing rogers, its going to be a lot.

If they don't sell it without buying a plan, I won't be getting one. I'd rather pay more money up front and just buy the phone than be stuck with a plan. It has to PAYG. Rogers rates are nothing short of rape.

i currently have att with a blackjack. i am seriously considering buying the new iphone, but can i keep my plan and then upgrade it to a data plan on a later date? but still use the iphone for calls, gps, ipod, etc? i am not hard pressed to be connected to the internet constantly and send e-mails.

Well, here in the US AT&T has abolished all Pay-as-you-Go plans for iPhone3, I'd imagine most providers are going to follow suit.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I too have a BlackJack (one) with AT&T and I'm considering getting the new iPhone (I could prolly sell my phone with the goodies I have for it for about $150)... but.... if the ONLY way to get the iPhone for $199 is buy signing a 2-year contract... I might just reconsider it.

can anyone confirm that you can get the iPhone for $199 while already being a customer and NOT sign a new contract? :(

well obviously you wont get it for that price. That's the subsidy price. Probably if you want to just buy it outright (who knows if they'll allow that in the first weeks cuz of stock issues) it might be $5-600 no contract price. You really didn't think you get all that goodness for X and just walk out the door scott free?

Hey, do you guys know if the keyboard finally expands in landscape mode?

According to this: iPhone 3G First Take

NO

3G = MMS picture messaging right?

No. 3G is the faster of the AT&T networks... almost broadband speeds generally. The first iPhone only supported EDGE, the slower AT&T network even though 3G was already well entrenched with lots of phones already on it.

MMS is still not included in the phone, nor is there any word whether there will be an application you can purchase to add this functionality. Quite honestly, unless I see some options come out in the coming Apps store in iTunes to add this without requiring me to jailbreak my phone, I'll probably just continue to skip the iPhone. It's not a big deal to some users, but most of my friends and I trade pics through MMS constantly.

You can read a decent what's there and what's not here: iPhone 3G First Take

are you sure? i already have a plan so you are saying i'd have to make a whole new plan for the iphone to get it for $199? that is disappointing.

EDIT: ok i read that if you are an existing customer you can get the subsidy pricing by extending your contract another 2 years. meh, we'll have to see now i guess...

anyone know how much it will be across the pond in UK ? $199 means nothing in tech world due to use being charged double and then tax ontop :p

Also available on PAYG though no prices listed yet.

Well, here in the US AT&T has abolished all Pay-as-you-Go plans for iPhone3, I'd imagine most providers are going to follow suit.

Hmmm. Is it going to be available legally in mainland China on the 11th as well? Because if I can't get it on PAYG here, I'll just wait until my next trip to China and pick one up while I'm there.

I'm rather disappointed with the lack of "new" this time around. Sure, 3G is nice, but in my area Edge hasn't been that bad. GPS is a nice addition, but I've already got one in my car, so there isn't any real benefit there...

I would have liked to see improvements to the camera, and 802.11n support.... granted n is still in draft.

Wile the price cut is nice, I don't see much of a reason to upgrade my 1st gen to the new iPhone... Guess I'll just wait till the 3rd gen iPhone drops.

I'm with you, my experience with EDGE hasn't been one of great complaint and usually I can pick up a WiFi hotspot when out and about. I was so ready yesterday to hop on Apple Store and pre-order...until I found out you can't order online! Sheesh. And then as the day went on, the news about activation, data price increase, minimal new features, etc.

Pity.

The updates are pretty much exactly what I wanted. I was totally expecting to see a much higher price tag though...

I'm disappointed that it wont be out for another month, but at the same time I can wait to get it that cheap.

I just sold my 8GB iPhone for $400, so to make money and get the newer one with better features for half the price....no issue waiting.

?35 a month for 18 months and you still have to pay ?100 or ?160 for the phone!

Contract = ?630 + 8gig Iphone = ?730 or 16gig Iphone = ?790

That?s a lot to spend on a phone, Do any of you guys really spend that much?

Their $30/month data plan wouldn't be bad if they actually gave you unlimited text or gave you a discount to bundle in unlimited text. Instead, you have to get their $30 data plan, add $20 for unlimited text, and then add your voice plan which will cost you more than $50 if you want adequate minutes so your looking at over $100 a month. That means of I get the iPhone, I will pay more than twice what I currently pay per month for the same thing, difference being its an iPhone.

Looks like I may skip going to the iPhone.

    • OpenClaw now has native mobile apps on iOS and Android by Karthik Mudaliar OpenClaw, the viral open-source personal AI agent, now has its own mobile app, available on both Android and iOS. Users can pair the app with an existing OpenClaw gateway and can start using new mobile-native features that are now available on the app. The app supports all the existing features you'd already have seen on OpenClaw's TUI, as well as some more, such as real-time and background Talk mode, action approvals, sharing from iOS, and optional access to device capabilities such as camera, screen, location, photos, contacts, calendar, and reminders. These features are available on both the Android and iOS versions of the app. What's important with these apps is that they don't run OpenClaw on your phone, but are actually just companion apps that require a running OpenClaw Gateway on an existing device, on macOS, Linux, or Windows via WSL2. To pair the app with your existing OpenClaw gateway, users need to run the command "/pair qr" on the TUI or existing chat interface, which brings up a QR code. Users can then scan this QR code to pair it up with the mobile app. There's also an option to manually pair the app by entering the host and a port. Previously, OpenClaw had been available on phones via WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord, Microsoft Teams, Matrix, and others. Now, with a native mobile app, the interface is much cleaner and more focused on just the OpenClaw, of course, with the added support for camera, screen, location, and more. It's important to note that OpenClaw comes with its own security warnings. There's always a chance of prompt injection with these tools, so users are recommended to double-check authentication, tool policy, sandboxing, and execution approvals rather than prompts alone. For users well-versed with the AI harness, a native mobile app makes it easier to approve an automation, share a link, use voice, or let an agent react to phone-side context.
    • Google pitches Spanner as one database for all AI agents with these new featues by Karthik Mudaliar Google Cloud is introducing new features within Spanner, its distributed database, as a place where enterprises should keep their data, using which AI agents could make smarter and better decisions. In a detailed blog post, Google highlighted quite a few features coming to Spanner, including relational data, graph relationships, vector search, key-value access, full-text search, and operational analytics together in one database architecture. Google says that today's systems aren't well-made for AI agents. There could be data that is present in one system, search indexes in another, embeddings in a vector database, and relationship data in a graph database. This fragmentation isn't great for AI agents to do their jobs because they don't have access to all of this data in one place. This is where Google is positioning Spanner as a solution. Spanner is already a globally distributed relational database with strong consistency, and Google wants its customers to see it as a broader data layer for AI applications. The company introduced something called Spanner Graph, along with integrated vector search, full-text search, a Cassandra-compatible key-value endpoint, and a columnar engine for analytical queries on operational data. Google also added that its ScaNN-powered vector search can support indexes with more than 10 billion vectors, while the columnar engine can make some analytical scans up to 200 times faster. All of this isn't just exclusive to the Google Cloud Platform, and there's support for multi-cloud as well. This comes via Spanner Omni, which Google says is a downloadable, containerized version of Spanner that can run on Kubernetes and in environments outside Google Cloud, including Microsoft Azure and AWS, and even on-premises infrastructure as well as edge deployments. Google says that customers who are interested in the full-featured edition should contact the company, and there's no word on commercial availability or separate pricing. Those interested can read the full blog by Google Cloud, which details these features individually.

    • They have lots of info on me, I have a facebook account and have done so for years, it was the thing to have then. My phone number is not on it. I don't have the Facebook app on my phone these days, just the messenger part, and only for a couple of people to contact me, most will text me via SMS or phone. I agree, Meta, like others, even without an account will know something about me. Just have to try and keep some things private Also, never saw the need for Whatsapp, people used to ask for me to join it, but as I said to them, I have SMS and a phone, use that, or email
