[Owners launch bid to find buyer for Liverpool

Tony Evans and Helen Power

Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr, the Liverpool owners, have signalled that they are ready to sell their stake at Anfield after engaging Merrill Lynch, the investment bank, to find a buyer for the club.

The Americans need to restructure their ?350million loan with the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), which expires on January 25. However, the bank, at present under public ownership because of the credit crunch, has adopted a policy of restructuring loans only in extremely favourable conditions. While discussions with Gillett and Hicks have not yet opened, their circumstances are not believed to fall into this category. The owners have always denied that the club were available for sale but the latest move signals an acceptance that the American duo's future control is unsustainable.

Although the Liverpool owners denied yesterday that Merrill Lynch has been engaged, The Times understands that auditors looked at Liverpool's books last week with a view to finding a buyer. So far, the search appears to be unsuccessful.

Sheikh Mohammed, the Crown Prince of Dubai, has maintained a longstanding interest in acquiring Liverpool but has balked at the price tag set by the American pair, which is upwards of ?550 million.

Liverpool are a special club, says Garcia

The owners admitted last month that plans for a new stadium in Stanley Park have been put on hold indefinitely. RBS is bracing itself for a campaign of protest by the Spirit of Shankly, a Liverpool supporters' union.

An offer from Dubai of ?500million has been on the table for many months, but there has been minimal contact between the Sheikh's representative, Amanda Staveley, and the American camp over the past few months.

Rumours of interest from Robert Kraft have swirled around Anfield in the past few weeks but it is not believed that the owner of the New England Patriots American football team is a viable bidder for Liverpool.

You know, I keep having to pinch myself with the way Hull are playing at the minute!! Missed the match today as was working, but they pulled out another strong result despite a shaky start... 3-0 up, and now joint top of the table, although Chelsea and Liverpool play tomorrow so it's not for long - but we'll still be 3rd in the table, regardless of what happens!

Wednesday and Saturday will really test them though - Chelsea (at the KC) and then over to Old Trafford - I don't think we'll get a similar result like we did against Arsenal, but I know they'll play their hearts out and do the best they can. Of course, a win or draw would be brilliant, but realistically? Nah. Can't see them collecting more than 2 points out of the next two games!!

I see Spurs have got Watford tomorrow - I hope their luck turns around and they start getting some point, not looking good for them at the min...

Watford played Wolves today. Spurs vs Bolton tomorrow. Although, to be fair, we may well be playing both of those clubs in the future if our luck doesn't change!

Well done to Hull, another good, solid performance from a very hard working, very well managed side.

Tottenham Hotspur have sacked coach Jaunde Ramos, along with sporting director Damien Comolli.

Spurs have also parted company with first team coaches Gus Poyet and Marcos Alvarez, following the team's long string of poor results.

The club confirmed the clear-out in a statement on their website.

Backroom staff-members Clive Allen and Alex Inglethorpe will step in to take charge of Sunday's Premier League match against Bolton.

Spurs are bottom of the Premier League after taking just two points from their opening eight matches this season.

We knew it was coming!

I guess you could say he had it coming after the long string of bad results, but I thought they would have been a bit more patient with him. Especially considering that almost everyone had come out in support for him. Usually if the coach is poor, other managers stay quiet on the issue.

Oh well... the best joke I heard about it so far... The Spurs board need to be patient, it's quite clear Ramos had a big injury hit list, if only they had waited for Darren Anderton to come back from his latest injury!

As for Harry Redknapp, that would be a brilliant signing for Spurs, but I think he has a good thing going at Portsmouth and leaving would be a bad move for him especially when it is going so well.

Harry will be the new manager, he was on SSN speaking and he confirmed it

I am quite shocked then, he turned down Newcastle because he was Pompey 100% and now Spurs come calling he is not so determined.

Damn, you lot are quick beat me to it!

Thanks for the CC JR and GP, but couldn't cut it in the prem.

Redknapp is an excellent man manager and talks a hell of a lot of sense. Just summed up all our on-field problems in 3 sentences on SSN just now. Well happy! :D

wouldn't suprise me if Tony Adams got the promotion. I think he would do well.

Wouldn't he come with Redknapp? he has done well with him the only factor I see there is he is ex Arsenal and you know Spurs don't like Arsenal :p

The Tottenham board have agreed to pay substantial compensation to the South Coast club, which is known to be struggling for cash and whose owner, Sacha Gaydamak, is prepared to sell up for as little as ?20million. Former Arsenal and England star Tony Adams, Redknapp's assistant, is now set to replace him as manager and will certainly be in control for the home game against Fulham this afternoon.
Video of Redknapp saying he's going incase anyone wants to hear it.

Cheers for that.

Best thing about it is we FINALLY get rid of Comolli and the DoF system. Bout time Daniel.

Would love to hear Levy trying to explain what the hell he and the club have been thinking over the last year with the whole Jol/Ramos/Comoli/DoF saga

    • No idea, frankly, I'm not into minimum requirements gaming, but it would be an interesting test to find out. Also, I just have to point out that it wasn't my intention to downplay the performance of DXVK on Linux or Linux gaming in general (despite my own experience being a bit of a mixed bag). I just thought it would be good to point out that DXVK is not Linux exclusive and that you can benefit from using it even in Windows.
    • Fastfetch 2.64 released bringing new logos and other improvements by David Uzondu Fastfetch, the popular command-line system information tool that developers created as a fast alternative to the classic Neofetch utility, has updated its codebase to version 2.64, bringing experimental scripting power, streamlined compilation options, a smarter logo renderer, and Codec module support. As noted earlier, Fastfetch can now detect hardware-accelerated video codecs across Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android through this new Codec module. On Linux and BSD, the utility uses VA-API by default, with a fallback to VDPAU on Nvidia hardware if compiled with libva and libvdpau. Windows users get D3D12VA on Windows 11 or D3D11VA with Media Foundation Transforms on older systems, while macOS relies on VideoToolbox and Android utilizes AMediaCodec. You can manually toggle Vulkan Video via the config file, and the program will report both encoders and decoders unless configured otherwise. Logo support for Quasar, Origami, Origami_small, NixOS2, and BerserkArch also landed in this release. BerserkArch, if you have never heard of it, is a specialized Arch Linux derivative that targets security researchers and power users. This distro comes with an offensive security tool manager, simply called berserk, which allows users to install complex hacking toolkits with single terminal commands. Moving on, Fastfetch now has experimental scripting options for custom formats using Lua or QuickJS. The Lua integration supports versions 5.3 through 5.5, sharing a single interpreter instance across all modules so you can store variables globally. T Alternatively, if you prefer JavaScript, you can use QuickJS-ng version 0.15.0 or newer to evaluate your custom formats with the qjs: prefix. Other changes that version 2.64 brings include native CMake compilation flags to disable specific modules to shrink the final binary size. Users can delete unwanted ASCII logo files directly from the source directory before building to save additional space. The format engine now boasts ANSI-escape awareness, meaning you can center text with the new vertical bar specifier without breaking colored outputs. Haiku users receive preliminary support for boot manager, window manager theme, screen brightness, and other basic properties. Finally, the Linux edition now extracts desktop wallpaper and theme details from the modern COSMIC desktop environment.
    • That's a good number until the game you want to play is not in that list.
    • So, the logo means No ducking AI?
    • For sure, humanity us highly unlikely to survive the helium flash. Even if we have colonized moons in the outer planets by then, that is such a monumental change in heat output, coupled with the destruction of Earth, it's unlikely we could be fully prepared for changes of that scale.
