Many PS3 owners complain of Firmware 2.40 freezes

Recommended Posts

Not sure about your question in regards to it being region specific, but I can tell you it is not on the US servers right now. I missed out on the initial release so I did not get to install it so I am waiting for 2.41 to be released, since there is no update right now.

Morficus is hosting 2.4 on a private server of his. He's willing to provide a link to the download, at your own risk.

Ahh okay that makes sense.

So then back to your region specific question, that is a good one. I would say play it safe and wait, but I could be wrong and it will work no issues.

I personally am just waiting until they officially release it again, would rather be super safe than the least bit sorry.

I'm pretty sure I've read on Neowin in the past week that the updates aren't region specific, so you should be able to use it. Best to wait for more confirmation from the other regulars. If you do decide to go ahead and update make sure you backup your saves (Y)

The firmware updates are region specific.

This update is for customers who own PS3? systems sold in North America. DO NOT update your PS3? system through this Web site if you purchased your system outside North America. There is no guarantee of proper operation with other models sold outside North America.

I have that link bookmarked and I used a firmware from that page to install for 2.20 I think it was.

Obviously I'd believe what Sony say.

This makes me think maybe as my system is English it worked, as I definitely used that link.

I've read in a bunch of other places that the FW was not region-specific (aka: one firmware for all systems), but clearly it was false information.

hhm... it now makes me wonder where these folks that originally stated that it was not region-specific got that info from..

that's very good to k:yes:yes:

oh... for those who are interested... YES, I'm hosting FW 2.40 on my server out of the house and it's a NTSC version for the US region. If interested, just PM me and I'll provide a link for the download.
