Wow, this is a bit surprising, but really cool on Valve's part.

Some time ago, the owner of TF2wiki.net put up his site for auction. The link to the thread with information is in Team Fortress 2's SPUF subforum. Today's TF2 blog post reveals Valve to be the new owners of the wiki; it's now here:

http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Main_Page

Just another reason why I support Valve (Y)

Loving the ideas: http://www.polycount.com/2010/06/28/tf2-polycount-pack-week-5-check-in/

Apparently the best entries will be in the game! I can't wait.

I knew the contest was going on, but never saw the entries... it's a shame they won't all make it, those all look great! There's tons of other awesome ones in their forums, too.

Edit: D'oh, that this was going to edit my last entry... oh well.

New update:

Updates to Team Fortress 2 have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

Server Browser

Server browser now starts centered onscreen when it opens up.

Filter panel now starts expanded, instead of hidden.

Added a warning dialog that pops up to warn players joining games with more than the recommended number of players.

Added a "max player count" filter setting.

Renamed quick list checkbox from "Show Map List" to "Simplified List".

Mouseover the checkbox now explains the simplified list in the status bar.

Quicklist now shows the number of other servers running each map.

Fixed a couple of bugs related to toggling the quick list, which were resulting in you needing to refresh again.

Team Fortress 2

Added missing earbud particles for DX8 players.

Added new ConVar mp_windifference_min to be used with mp_windifference.

Added Engineer to the list of classes that can equip Max's Pistol.

Rebuilt sound cache files that were out of date.

Source TV:

Fixed unlockable items not being visible.

Stopped "player is carrying X" messages looping forever.

Fixed overhealed particle effect being visible on your current view target when in first-person spectator mode.

Changed in-game button colors to be less eyepoppingly bright.

Improved Steam Web APIs for TF2 items (see http://www.teamfortress.com/)

Engine

Fixed some graphical issues when alt-tabbing during a game.

Fixed bullet penetration problems with Linux dedicated server.

Removed an exploit that allowed people to change their names to something other than their Steam profile name.

Alt-tabbing fixes? About time!

Added missing earbud particles for DX8 players.

What a pointless 'fix'. Why is d3d8 even still supported at this point? Didn't they once state that retaining support for such outdated hardware for such an insignificant amount of people who somehow actually still require it is holding them back from implementing further improvements to the version of the engine used in tf2?

Not as far as I'm aware. In fact, that seems converse to everything Valve's ever said IMO, but maybe they did state that at some point.

FINALLY. No more 'record temp' 'stop' in the console after alt tabbing the game, or "What the hell, YOU'RE HACKING, YOU'RE INVISIBLE" complaints. :p

No, Blackhearted is right.....I emailed Robin awhile back asking if TF2 would ever be updated to the L4D or L4D 2 engine, he responded and said 1) Its too big of a workload for the size of the TF2 team and 2) They still have thousands of customers who play TF2 and require DX8, to update to the L4D or L4D 2 engine, they would have to drop those customers.

So yes, while the primary reason for not updating the TF2 engine is not that they wish to retain DX8 support in TF2, it is a major factor in why they haven't done it yet.

EDIT: Oddly enough, my post on the Steam forums about that email seems to have disappeared.....I still have the emails but am too busy at the moment to make more screenshots as "proof".

Oh, sorry, I know that -- that's what I meant. I just meant I didn't think Valve would ever phrase it like that (the way he did), as it's not an "insignificant amount of people" and they probably don't view it as holding them back.

I want it.

It hasn't start to drop yet and it may be numbered like the Soldier's medal.

Engi update very very soon?

It might be part of a gamemode or event, they're numbered but there's UI stuff referring to them, and messages about creating and destroying them.

And we now know it's built out of "Australium", it's what makes the idiot Australians top scientific minds.

You sure it's one of the first? It's part of last year's Halloween update: http://www.teamfortress.com/pumpkinpatch/

The earliest reference I can find to TF2 hidden pages were hidden pages on the classless update, which is the update directly before the Halloween update. So, while it may not be one of the first, it is definitely a very old hidden page that existed before the war update, 119 update, and mac update.

Also, the scout knew of the Engy comic back with his update....."Here's something you shoulda built: A Not-Dyin'-Machine!", well, now the Engy is going to be repairing a "Not-Dyin'-Machine" (technically, the machine was built by the engies grandfather, so maybe the scout somehow knew of this machine and hinted about it to the engy?).

And yes, I know its unlikely that Valve thought that far ahead, but it sounds cool anyway! :p

The Neowin server now has the Golden Wrench enabled! 8.9.16.185:27015

Important: If you would like to use the golden wrench you MUST place this file in your TF2 directory. http://system-restor.../items_game.txt Place this file in tf\scripts\items. Typical locations for Windows users include: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\<your steam login>\team fortress 2\tf\scripts\items and C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\<your steam login>\team fortress 2\tf\scripts\items

No need for hacks anymore. The 1st wrench dropped 5 minutes ago. I was ingame and heard the announcer say that a wrench was dropped.

There was a HUD announcement + one in the chat.

I got this screen:

This is his backpack: http://www.tf2items.com/id/TOASTYEAH

More dropping now:

    • After enabling it in about:config, customize, density, compact; the toolbar/address bar gets smaller vertically. I enabled Nova, I notice the tab bar/title bar is a bit larger vertically now? Everything always becomes a waste of space.
    • Microsoft's Copilot Cowork now generally available with usage-based billing by Pradeep Viswanathan Back in March, Microsoft first revealed Copilot Cowork, a new agentic AI experience in Microsoft 365 Copilot through which users can assign tasks to AI to complete in the background. After testing the service with a limited set of customers in Research Preview for a few weeks, Microsoft announced the general availability of Copilot Cowork to customers in the Frontier program on March 30. Today, Microsoft announced the general availability of Copilot Cowork worldwide for Microsoft 365 Copilot customers. The company also highlighted that Cowork became the fastest-growing feature in the history of its Frontier program. Unlike regular Copilot Chat, Copilot Cowork can run complex, long-running, multi-tool tasks from start to finish in the cloud by using organizational context through Work IQ. When compared to Claude Cowork, Microsoft claims that Copilot Cowork will be 30% to 40% cheaper on average with its Microsoft 365 connector. For now, Copilot Cowork runs on Anthropic models, including Opus 4.8 and Sonnet 4.6. However, Frontier customers can now use GPT-5.5. Microsoft also announced Cowork 1, a secure fine-tuned model coming in the next few weeks, which is designed to handle everyday Copilot tasks at a lower cost. To access Copilot Cowork, a Microsoft 365 Copilot user subscription is required. Usage is billed separately through Copilot Credits, based on model use, context retrieval, tool calls, and runtime. Pay-as-you-go pricing is set at $0.01 per Copilot Credit. To offer IT teams full control over usage costs, Microsoft provides spending limits, usage alerts, user-level controls, reporting, and prepaid usage plans for organizations. Usage-based billing begins today. However, Frontier customers who used Cowork between March 30 and June 16 will not be billed until July 1, 2026. The Microsoft 365 Copilot app now includes a toggle to enter the full Cowork experience. Microsoft is also adding partner plugins, with Enosix, Harvey, LSEG, Miro, monday.com, Moody’s, Morningstar, S&P Global Energy, and TeamsMaestro available now. Adobe, Atlassian, Box, Canva, Databricks, and others are coming soon.
    • With Nova enabled I am not seeing a difference with compactmode.show?
