Buggiest update since I've been playing, game crashed ~5 times today, most of the people are unable to switch gear because there's "no steam connection" error.

Just like the old days!

But seriously, I suspect there will be a second update tonight to address these issues. The API output has been fine, which suggests the disconnects are a game-specific problem.

Demo knight got nerfed :(

Good!

On a lighter note, it appears they dropped the SILK codec into TF2, which is very much welcome. Better mic music spam for our ears!

Unfortunately one of my favourite mod servers has had a few of its mods broken.

edit: wow, so backburner pyros can compression blast now.

Yeah I was crashing a lot last night so I gave up and played some BC2 instead. Hopefully the update released last night fixes the issues.

It did (mostly) solve the "no steam connection" issue, but the game still crashes A LOT, hopefully a new patch will arrive soon.

I'd never seen that issue, I've only been crashing lots in-game. Hopefully Valve will get an update out to fix the issues today :)

Also looks like SILK may have been implemented into CS:S as well, since now when I go to use my microphone all other speakers get quietened while I'm talking.

Yeah, that's audio ducking. It's a Windows 7 feature that engages with the new "Steam Voice" system. You can disable it in your Windows Sound settings or change the level of ducking.

Edit:

May as well as others have started, but I've got an unwanted (Unique) Soldier's Stash and Buckaroo's hat up for grabs, open to offers. Backpack @ http://tf2b.com/athernar

Ah, I'll fix this then, thanks.

What do you want for the soldiers medal?

TF2 did that in the past too....when I first started playing TF2 on W7 I had the same issue, not sure if it stopped doing it at some point but the audio ducking had always been there long before the new codec for me.

What do you want for the soldiers medal?

I'll give you mine (even lower number than Athernar's, #558) for a gifted copy of Portal 2 :p (other than that, I'm not looking to trade it, lol)

Haha, it's not worth that much

I place a really low value on TF2 items, I don't see the point in trading 1 weapon for a reclaimed metal (which is equal to 9 weapons), etc.

To some it nearly is...I've seen people put a price tag of like $30 or so on medals (sometimes more). :p

Hell, I think I would give away my medal and all my hats for Portal 2...

To be fair, it seems that a handful of the more recent items have a lower overall droppability than other items. But yeah, the "market" can be pretty dumb.

Thankfully I don't really involve myself in the market, and I can't say I feel that I've really missed out.

Team Fortress 2 Update

Updates to Team Fortress 2 have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

  • Fixed a server crash that could occur if TFBots were used across map changes
  • Fixed a client crash caused by weapons with attached models
  • Fixed a material system crash
  • Fixed a client crash with dynamic model loading
  • Fixed a few backpack images not drawing correctly
  • Fixed listen servers sometimes not authenticating with Steam (not being able to use Offline Practice)
  • Fixed the "itemtest" command
  • Fixed players not being able to access their backpack loadout
  • Updated the localization files

Hopefully this fixes all the crash issues we've been having over the last few days.
