Guerrilla Games: "No plans for co-op in Killzone 2"

killzone2_co-opno.jpg

Guerrilla Games has told PSU in an exclusive interview that there are currently no plans to implement co-op in Killzone 2.

"Currently there are no plans for co-op in Killzone 2," said game director, Mathijs de Jonge. "Technically it would be quite difficult to implement it for the story mode as for example the mission sections are loaded in seamlessly – no loading screens , and that would cause issues with teleporting players. Even without co-op it’s still a big game and gamers will have plenty to sink their teeth into."

To hear that there is no planned co-op for Killzone 2 seemed odd, as over the last few months, news has continued to point to "post release patches" or rumors of possible "four player co-op." However, after digging around, we quickly found that all stories pertaining to a co-op mode in the game were based purely on speculation, providing no evidence to back up their claims.

The biggest story that nearly every major website covered was posted in late August, stating that bots were confirmed and that a post-release patch would be adding co-op. Again, no source was provided in regards to where the information originated from.

Sad to say, it looks like those co-op dreams can be put to sleep. Still, don't let that keep you from purchasing Killzone 2. The game still has a phenomenal single-player and the multiplayer online should keep you busy for years to come. Stay tuned for our full interview later today.

Confirmed: No attack dogs in Killzone 2

killzone_dog.jpg

Speaking with PSU.com, Guerrilla Games game director Mathijs de Jonge has revealed that the attack dogs from Killzone: Liberation will not be making an appearance in Killzone 2.

"No sorry, they don’t," said Jonge. "There are other creatures though, like aggressive spiders that chase anything that gets near, be it the player, your allies or even the Helghast.”

“These creatures live on polluted soil which has given them a very vicious attack. Get bitten, and they release a couple of thousands of volts."

Stay tuned to PSU.com as more from our interview will be revealed later today.

I'd love co-op, but it's hardly a deal breaker. I'm guessing it would be difficult to push that sort of graphical detail in split screen. They could do online or LAN style co-op, but I think it's best they spend their time polishing and releasing what they have right now. I suppose in the future they could develop some downloadable co-op content, but I think once people are playing Killzone 2 multi player they will forget all about co-op for quite a while. :p

Of all places, the official 360 blog has a KZ2 "preview" up :p

Competition check - Killzone edition

Being an office of many magazines, we all get to see the big competitor games when they come in. So, in the past year, between all the 360 love, well, we’ve seen LittleBigPlanet. And that’s about it. 2009 is already shaping up to be a little more varied though, and it began today when I noticed Killzone 2 preview code casually sitting on a desk in our sister magazine Play’s work area.

killzone1.jpg

Naturally, I asked for it to be put on, and twenty minutes of beautiful, gritty, heavy gunplay later, I’m back to post my impressions. It’s good. Really good in fact. this is the genre that has belonged to the 360 since its inception, but it finally looks like Sony has an Ace in its deck. Visually, Killzone 2 is quite something - besting even Gears 2 in the motion-blurred grey battleground stakes, and the weight and purpose of everyting from the weapons to the characters is somethign to behold. Most importantly, though, it’s really satisfying to play. The enemy AI, coupled with a well implemented cover system (unusual for an FPS) means Killzone 2’s skirmishes are uniquely challenging and gratifyingly meaty.

Of course, the key to success in this genre is variety, and having only seen a snippet of the opening mission, it’s hard to judge whether Killzone 2 will switch up its speed and set pieces enough to enter the Pantheon of truly great shooters. But for a first impression - wow. Halo ODST has a lot to live up to.

CES 2009: Killzone 2 Interview

By now, I?m sure you?ve seen some of the overwhelmingly positive impressions of Killzone 2 from the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show. Shortly after his CES presentation, I tracked down Hermen Hulst, Managing Director and co-founder of KZ2 developer Guerrilla Games. We talked hit response physics, the unusual background of some of the KZ2 team, and that awesome video that was shown. Take a look:

Once again, Killzone 2 hits North American shores on February 27th. Preorder bonuses going on now.

The developer reveals a fluid combination of weapon variety and MP modes.

The clan system involved in KZ2 sounds awesome, as the guy in the video said it ain't just a cheap system putting a few letters before your name ;)

And some more awesome gifs to boot

Damn, not to sound like I'm bashing the game or the PS3, but everytime I see in-game goodness I wish the PS3 had a more FPS-friendly controller! :( It just doesn't feel right to me. Still can't wait to get my hands on this sucker, though :D

Really? Guess it just depends what your used to cause i find the controller great because its wat ive always used...and i just cant get used to the 360 pad!

Last page LOC, I've got KZ2 media covered

But cheers anyway, nothing wrong with posting that video a few times ;)

(I think it might be better quality here - http://www.video.dpadmagazine.com/2009/01/...esponse-trailer - Most GT videos tend to be extremely dark)

By the way, CE fans, looks like we won't see anything...

When is the Collector’s Edition going to be announced?

There is going to be one right?

Thanx, reply please.

Jeff Rubenstein replied on January 13, 2009 at 9:34 pm

There is no collector’s edition slated for Killzone 2. Guerrilla Games has put all of their effort into creating this masterpiece of a game, so we didn’t actively pursue a CE.

Damn it, and I went through the last page here and didn't see it! Stupid giant pics that take forever to load probably nuked that one for me :(

It's called hit response trailer for some reason, so you probably just missed it.

And yeah, don't kid, everyone loves the gifs and pics!

Who needs an internet speed test when you can all just brag how quickly you managed to load one of Audioboxer's KZ2 pages

On a serious note, don't worry, I won't be doing it for the proper official thread.

Yeah I've been watching all the Masterbit vids on IGN, and man I really wish I had a PS3 for KZ2.

I mean I'm used to sick looking games on the PC of course like Crysis etc, and I don't know if KZ2 is any better than Crysis (I'm not saying it is or isn't) but hot damn the amount of stuff on screen most of the time is mind boggling, along with all the little details going on. And the lighting engine they are using in the game (along with the audio) is realllllllly nice. If there was ever a game I wanted a PS3 for, this is it. Either that or a PC port, but that's about as likely as getting a Mario game on the 360.

Nah PCs will still pump out better visuals.

It's just amazing though getting something this polished and good looking on a console with 7.1 HD audio to boot.

The art direction goes a long way to making it appear better/rivalling anything on the PC, but in terms of sheer pixel pumping and resolution the PC will win, as always. Thing is though, you need the PC to be able to do that :p

It can't get a port as Guerilla games are exclusively signed on to only make games for the PS platforms (PSP/PS2/PS3)...

Guerrilla Games is a first party video game developer and wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment.
Guerrilla signed an exclusive development agreement with Sony Computer Entertainment in late 2004, that would see future development at the company exist solely for Sony's line of video game consoles, the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable and the then yet-to-be released PlayStation 3.

I don't know if this has been posted in this thread yet, but I had to post this just in case. Amazing video.

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/44316.html?type=

First time I've watched that trailer, the explosions and amount of stuff going on is very impressive. Will certainly be picking this one up at launch.

It is a shame there won't be any Co-Op but I guess you can't have it all. Is there going to be clan support? I am guessing there will be.

Do we know how long the SP campaign will be yet?

Yeah quite extensive clan support.

Watch this video, the Kyle guy comments on it about half way through - http://www.gametrailers.com/player/44354.html

Earlier videos talk about a sort of points/gambling system where clans put on wagers/bets against each other and either win/lose the points depending on the outcome. I'll try find that video, talks about clans more than the above.

edit: Can't find the video, but it's called Valor

Another interesting feature is the selection of community tools available through the game's official Web site on Killzone.com. All players will have a profile displaying their progression in terms of rank, ribbons/medals, what abilities they have coming up, and a sortable list of those 100-plus stats mentioned earlier. It will also support clans. You can join clans online, keep track of clan stats and members, set up matches and tournaments, and a host of other options. The cool thing about clan battles is that clans can bet a certain amount of "valor" on each match, which is essentially a currency of reputation points. Bankrupt clans do have the option to earn valor back through participating in tournaments with no valor entry fees.

    • RevPDF 4.5.0 by Razvan Serea RevPDF is a free, fully offline PDF editor for Windows, macOS, and Linux that lets you edit text and images directly inside PDF files — no internet connection, no account, and no cloud uploads required. Unlike bloated alternatives that demand subscriptions and constant connectivity, RevPDF fits in under 60MB on desktop while delivering a complete editing toolkit: annotate, redact, sign, compress, split, merge, convert, and reorganize pages, all processed locally on your device. Smart font matching ensures edited text blends seamlessly with the original, and multi-language support includes RTL scripts such as Arabic and Hebrew. Where most PDF editors force you to choose between features and simplicity, RevPDF manages both. You can build interactive forms from scratch with text fields, checkboxes, and dropdowns, permanently redact sensitive data before sharing, draw freehand on contracts and diagrams, and add custom watermarks — all without a single file leaving your machine. Edit Text and Images Directly Inside PDFs RevPDF supports true inline PDF editing — not just annotation layers on top of a document, but actual modification of existing text and images within the file. A smart font-matching engine identifies the font used in the original document and applies it automatically when you make edits, so changes blend naturally with the surrounding content. You can reposition elements, resize images, and update text across single pages or entire documents. RevPDF 4.5.0 release notes: This is one of the biggest updates to RevPDF yet. A lot of things people have been asking for are finally here. New Features Auto Redaction Permanently redact sensitive text and areas from your PDFs before sharing. Clean, irreversible, and fully offline. Comments, Links & Bookmarks Add comments for review, insert clickable links, and create bookmarks to jump around long documents without scrolling forever. Find & Replace Search across the whole document and replace text in one go. Long overdue. Split Pages Vertically or Horizontally Split any page down the middle, vertically or horizontally. Perfect for scanned books or double-page spreads. New Drawing Tools More tools for freehand drawing and markup, better for annotations, sketches, and detailed notes. Continuous Scrolling in Editor The editor now scrolls continuously through pages instead of jumping between them. Working through long documents is a lot smoother now. PDF Metadata Editor View and edit the metadata stored inside your PDFs, including title, author, subject, and keywords. Better Font Matching Text edits now blend in more naturally by doing a better job of matching the original font. Tabbed PDF Viewer Open multiple PDFs at once in tabs and switch between them without going back to the home screen. Add Links Insert hyperlinks anywhere in your PDF, to external URLs or to other pages within the document. Share & Print Shortcuts Share or print directly from the editing screen, home screen, and viewer. No extra steps. Minor Updates Paste images directly from clipboard into your PDF New image editing tools for more control over images inside documents Bug Fixes Fixed file saving issues on Windows and Linux Everything still works fully offline.
