  1. 1. Who should lead on Destiny?

Also is it just me. or I thought Eli and Chloe had a thing going. lol
Yeah Eli likes her but its clear she likes the bad boys or the taller type not the geek type...like real life really

Yeah, I think the writers have been very clever in putting this in... I reckon it's something that a lot of the old SG1/SGA demographic can empathise with. I know I've had similar experiences when I was younger... just not the other side of the universe trapped in close quarters! :p

I dont know if this theory or idea is too farfetched but When rush said Destiny lacked the capability to dial back to Earth did he mean power wise or method to get back to Earth? If it's just power during the last episode do youthink it would have been possible for them to attempt a dial to Earth while the ship was inside the star? lol If it's power they lack. and the Ship uses the sun to collect power. They potentially have a big enough power source to do so. Just thinking out loud.

I think the point of this ship was to travel the same path as their previous ships ones who dropped the stargate like mentioned in the show. So the path would be there ever those ships went. How far those ships have gone is unknown. But it's possible it went on forever since the method they use to recharge is to dive into a star.

Let's not forget that it took the power of a special planet with Naquadria (spelt that wrong but I think you know what I mean) to power the Stargate so much that it was able to connect to Destiny for a short period. But let's not forget that the ship is now only 40% of power which means that whatever is holding it back from 100% could be faulty capacitors, a system leak, or, Destiny's shield might not have been powerful enough or could stand the stress of being inside of a star for a period of time which could charge it to 100% (find that unlikely since the ship is being charged so the shields would be charged).

You need to remember that this ship was launched millions of years ago, well before Atlantis, most likely when the Stargates were first built and they needed something to seed the galaxies with them.

So if that's true, that means that Destiny might not be actually capable of dialling back to Earth with such little power.

I have no doubt this might take a turn like they did in Atlantis where they are able to dial Earth regularly because of a new power source or they are able to fix the ship or the ships capacitors for them to do that.

I think the problem with dialling back is related to distance in proportion to power. Further away, more power required. Since they are so far away its likely not possible using the same means they might have intended to use originally. Then again they planned to gate there when it was at the edge of the Universe so I assume they had some means other than mystery planet to get there.

The gate address was a mystery, the gate address turned out to be a "code" to dial the Destiny's gate. If you remember the last symbol, it was Earth's point of origin, but it wasn't Earth they were on. They also realised that they needed the exact amount of power needed to power the address, so that in it's self is pretty much a code. They had no real way of knowing they were going, that's why they had the communication stones, but it's possible they had to generators but left them behind after the base got attacked.

There wont be an all ranging new enemy in this one, there's a quote for that somewhere in this thread; there will only be instances where they might encounter various and sundry aliens who cause them trouble. Though I'm sure the point of the traitor will come up.

I quite like this idea. It became apparent with the last two series that they were suffering from the 'power ranger' complex. Each time they defeat an enemy, another one comes along with a bigger gun/sword/ship/robot etc.

It would be great to see episodic content like the first few episodes of sg1 and pretty much most of Star Trek, whereby each episode is kind-of a self contained entity but following a subtle series-long story line.

Don't they need to know an exact point of origin to dial outside of the galaxy they are in?

I just finished watching episode 5 :)

With normal Stargates, yes, but it's obvious the Ancients (who remember are the gate builders/designers) came up with a system which can map to the Destiny.

There is one possible way I think they could of done this and I believe it can be down to the other Stargates. Remember, Destiny is following another ship which is planting the Stargates, so maybe the Stargates/DHDs themselves help make the calculations to the Destiny. A bit like how you can use bread crums to find your way back etc. The Destiny was using it's FTL drive either when they dialled the gate. You can see at the beginning of the first episode where the ship drops out of FTL.

I remember the scene you mentioned Tony but were they dropping out or just jumping in? I remember it happening several times in the first episodes. I believe the first time they were jumping in as no one seemed to notice. Second time they did and saw it was stopped. That being the case Destiny could have dropped out when the dialling sequence started.

Assuming the origin was always supposed to be Earth (hence code) they likely intended to use the ZPM's from Atlantis (prior to it leaving) or maybe they didn't take the power requirements into consideration. I remember Atlantis needed to drain the ZPM in the outpost because it was so far away. I don't think the number of chevrons makes the difference I think its the distance the wormhole needs to go? But I could be wrong.

Destiny did drop out of FTL when the dialling sequence started, or at least, it dropped out to establish a connection. I remember an episode where they had a gate on a Goa'uld ship, but it couldn't be used when it was in Hyperspace.

We have no way to know if Atlantis is still on Earth, but I assumed that the ZPM's were drained after the fight with Todd's mate with that super hive ship.

Yea but FTL is different than Hyperspace so presumably it might be possible to dial while in it, but unlikely.

And I was referring to the Ancients, I assume they didn't plan on leaving Earth when they sent Destiny out. So theoretically they would have still been there when they planned to board Destiny.

Maybe thats the exact reason why the ship uses FTL instead of hyperspace.

yeah i'm starting to agree with the people who feel the Colonel is a weak leader. Dr. Rush seems the only one who has the guts to tell people the reality of a situation, and he gets griefed for it. Yet another episode as well where I feel the Senator's daughter didn't add anything at all to the episode other than a pretty face.

overall I thought there was some pretty poor choices made by the characters, obviously because of writing. When the guy pulled out his gun on the sandmist, bugs whatever..i said -_-. Seriously who pulls a gun on a mist of sand or a swarm of insects, I understand they had to kill this random guy as part of the story but they could have seriously did it in a smarter way. When Eli and Dr. Rush got into it about the seriousness of the alien problem, it seemed so un-Eli-like. He's never outright just disrespected Dr. Rush or anybody like that on the show, and that was just simple disrespect that whole scene. Again I understand that's how it is written and that's how they are setting up stuff, but I just wish they did it in a better way and not so cliche or out of the blue.

yep...it was pretty funny and stupid that he held a gun against bugs and tried to shoot them.

I mean come on, really! Writers! It is a fictional story and all, we get that, but that doesn't mean it has to be stupid, right?

That was an alright episode. (Y)

Earlier in the thread it was mentioned that Destiny plots a course based on data received from seeding ships ahead, I was wondering if they could use that data to determine what's ahead (i.e. planets, resources, etc)?

Also does anyone have any spoilers/leaks/details on the pod that flew off Destiny a few episodes back?

I agree with that otherwise they wouldn't need that timer in the gate room. Also in the episode when they were in the desert, Eli had to put his arm through the gate so it wouldn't disconnect.

The first season of Stargate Universe is ?in the can,? as they say in the ?biz.

Principal photography wrapped on the show yesterday, capping off eight months of filming Season One?s 20 episodes. Among the last cast members to leave the set were Alaina Huffman (?Tamara Johansen?), David Blue (?Eli Wallace?), Brian J. Smith (?Matthew Scott?), Patrick Glimore (?Dale Volker?), Jennifer Spence (?Lisa Park?), Peter Kelamis (?Adam Brody?), Haig Sutherland (?Hunter Riley?), and Julia Benson (?Vanessa James?), consulting producer Joseph Mallozzi said on his blog.

And not everyone is guaranteed to survive ?Incursion,? the show?s 2-part season finale.

Meanwhile, post-production on the second half of the season continues into 2010.

What about a return trip for Season Two? Syfy has not yet announced whether or not it will renew the show, but expectations are high. The show has been doing well in the ratings, at least outperforming Sanctuary and last year?s numbers for Stargate Atlantis.

SGU is currently the U.S. cable network?s second highest-rated program, after Ghost Hunters, and its highest-rated drama, according to TV by the Numbers, with more than 2 million viewers on Friday nights (Live + Same Day).

Word on the renewal could come at any day, with at least preliminary ratings in for five episodes now ? fully one-quarter of the season.

In Vancouver, the show?s writing team has already started spinning stories and assigning episode slots for Season Two, Mallozzi said. The season finale will be penned by Paul Mullie, with Mallozzi, Brad Wright, Robert C. Cooper and Carl Binder also adding to the first five.

New episodes of Season One should air into December, then take a break until March or April. (Syfy will begin airing the Battlestar Galactica prequel series, Caprica, in January.)

Don?t miss this week?s brand new episode of Stargate Universe on Syfy! ?Water? airs at 9 p.m. (8 Central).

    • Rufus 4.15.2391 Beta by Razvan Serea Rufus is a small utility that helps format and create bootable USB flash drives, such as USB keys/pendrives, memory sticks, etc. Despite its small size, Rufus provides everything you need! Oh, and Rufus is fast. For instance it's about twice as fast as UNetbootin, Universal USB Installer or Windows 7 USB download tool, on the creation of a Windows 7 USB installation drive from an ISO (with honorable mention to WiNToBootic for managing to keep up). It is also marginally faster on the creation of Linux bootable USBs from ISOs. A non-exhaustive list of Rufus supported ISOs is available here. It can be especially useful for cases where: you need to create USB installation media from bootable ISOs (Windows, Linux, UEFI, etc.) you need to work on a system that doesn't have an OS installed you need to flash a BIOS or other firmware from DOS you want to run a low-level utility Rufus 4.15.2391 Beta changelog: Improve the guards for using the "silent" option Improve the ability to cancel during write retries Fix unrestricted XML entity expansion and integer overflow in ezxml parser (courtesy of @esadowski4) [GHSA-55r2-34wg-8mv9] Fix "silent" Windows installation failing at 75% in most cases [#2960] Fix a crash during boot when using UEFI:NTFS on Snapdragon X based ARM64 platforms [#2934] Fix the first WUE option always being checked by default [#2965] Fix an infinite loop when using Windows ISOs that contain multiple WIMs Fix "Enable runtime UEFI media validation" checkbox not always being properly enabled Other WUE improvements/fixes for OneDrive removal and username validation (with thanks to @christian8641) [#2984, #2991] Download: Rufus 4.15 Beta | 1.9 MB (Open Source) Links: Rufus Home Page | Project Page @GitHub | Screenshot Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
    • Media Player Classic - Home Cinema 2.7.3 by Razvan Serea Media Player Classic - Home Cinema (MPC-HC) is a free and open-source video and audio player for Windows. MPC-HC is based on the original Guliverkli project (which is no longer maintained) and contains many additional features and bug fixes. As the continuation of the original Media Player Classic, MPC-HC isn’t flashy but it works with nearly any media format. MPC-HC uses DXVA technology to pass decoding operations to your modern video card, enhancing your viewing experience. And MPC-HC supports both physical and software DVDs with menus, chapter navigation, and subtitles. Overview of features A lot of people seem to be unaware of some of the awesome features that have been added to MPC-HC in the past years. Here is a list of useful options and features that everyone should know about: Dark interface Menu > View > Dark Theme When using dark theme it is also possible to change the height of the seekbar and size of the toolbar buttons. Options > Advanced Video preview on the seekbar Options > Tweaks > Show preview on seek bar Adjust playback speed Menu > Play > Playback rate The buttons in the player that control playback rate take a 2x step by default. This can be customized to smaller values (like 10%): Options > Playback > Speed step Adjusting playback speed works best with the internal audio renderer. This also has automatic pitch correction. Options > Playback > Output > Audio Renderer MPC-HC can remember playback position, so you can resume from that point later Options > Player > History You can quickly seek through a video with Ctrl + Mouse Scrollwheel. You can jump to next/previous file in a folder by pressing PageUp/PageDown. You can perform automatic actions at end of file. For example to go to next file or close player. Options > Playback > After Playback (permanent setting) Menu > Play > After Playback (for current file only) A-B repeat - You can loop a segment of a video. Press [ and ] to set start and stop markers. You can rotate/flip/mirror/stretch/zoom the video Menu > View > Pan&Scan This is also easily done with hotkeys (see below). There are lots of keyboard hotkeys and mouse actions to control the player. They can be customized as well. Options > Player > Keys Tip: there is a search box above the table. You can stream videos directly from Youtube and many other video websites You can stream videos directly from Youtube and many other video websites Put yt-dlp.exe or youtube-dl.exe in the MPC-HC installation folder. Then you can open website URLs in the player: Menu > File > Open File/URL You can even download those videos: Menu > File > Save a copy Tip: to be able to download in best quality with yt-dlp/youtube-dl, it is recommended to also put ffmpeg.exe in the MPC-HC folder. Several YDL configuration options are found here: Options > Advanced This includes an option to specify the location of the .exe in case you don't want to put it in MPC-HC folder. Play HDR video This requires using madVR or MPC Video Renderer. After installation these renderers can be selected here: Options > Playback > Output Ability to search for and download subtitles, either automatically or manually (press D): Options > Subtitles > Misc Besides all these (new) features, there have also been many bugfixes and internal improvements in the player in the past years that give better performance and stability. It also has updated internal codecs. Support was added for CUE sheets, WebVTT subtitles, etc. Media Player Classic - Home Cinema 2.7.3 changelog: Updated LAV Filters to version 0.82 Updated MPC Video Renderer to version 0.10.4.2550 Updated MPC Audio Renderer A few crash fixes, bug fixes and small improvements. • Microsoft will finally let you sign in to Edge with a Google account by Usama Jawad As things currently stand, Microsoft Edge only allows you to sign in to the browser with a Microsoft Account (MSA). This allows you to sync your browser settings and other data across other devices, as long as you sign in with the same account. However, Microsoft is now modifying this mechanism in a way that will likely please many users. In an update to its Microsoft 365 Roadmap, Microsoft has indicated that it will soon let users sign into Edge using a Google account from the profile menu and the Edge sign-in screen. This will be in addition to the MSA login option, and it opens up new doors for people who prefer using Edge, but cannot be bothered to configure a Microsoft account. This brings several advantages such as the ability to sync your data across devices using just a Google account. It may even facilitate flexible single sign-on (SSO) experiences where you can quickly login to websites and services through a single Google account that is presented as the preferred sign-in option. Up until now, Microsoft allowed customers to indirectly use a Google account, by configuring a Google account as a Microsoft account, or by setting up a one-way sync option between Edge and Chrome. This is a rather interesting development, especially considering that Google Chrome still limits you to a Google account sign-in, but it will be interesting to see if the company reciprocates Microsoft's gesture in the future. This is not the only recent instance in which Microsoft has extended a handshake to Google via Edge. In April 2026, it began tracking the development of a work search banner for Google Search queries, just like the one present in Edge. However, if we go back almost seven years, to January 2020, Microsoft had emphasized that it had no plans to "integrate Google services into Microsoft Edge by default", in response to people requesting Google sign-in services on Edge. Fast-forward to today, and Microsoft is planning to release this feature in July 2026, with IT admins having the option to control its availability on Windows and macOS through the NonMicrosoftAccountSignInEnabled policy.
