Did anyone notice Eli wearing a red shirt?

As a sci fi geek I figured he of all people would be very weary of their off-world attire.

Maybe they don't get Star Trek in the Star Gate world.

O'Neill referenced Star Trek in SG1 (wanting to call the Prometheus "The Enterprise"), and I've seen in a trailer that Eli will make a reference to Star Wars at some point.

Oh man! This is the kind of Stargate I've been dreaming of. It combines elements from Stargate SG-1/Atlantis and Battlestar Galactica. Like Phantom Helix? b>said, "Battlegate Unilactica":p:p

Sick of people whining that they dont like it, dont like it? dont watch it, dont spoil it for the rest of us by being the vocal minority i dont want this show ending prematurely because loads of people are whining about not liking it and the people that do like it are just content with having watched it and not saying how much they like it.

Whoa, calm down. There's no point in reading something that bothers you. See a post about someone's hatred of SGU? Don't read all of it. And I don't think they would cancel a show simply because a small number of people complain about it online.

yeah. More clich?d rubbish. It only took them a week to do the OMG RUNNING OUT OF TIME thing with the stargate. That's going to get overused.

As opposed to SG-1 where they used that plot device in the very first episode ;))

I'm sure they'll find a way around the time limit soon enough.

Uh no, episode 3 was the 3rd part of the series premier, it wasnt a seperate episode. So technically it was part of the first 2 episodes storyline so in context it was fine them using the plot device seen as its the first time theyve gone off ship.

People say they don't like it because they didn't, and because it's a free world where people can express their opinions on say a discussion forum. and because they want the show to be better.and maybe not a episode by episode repeat of the previous two stargates.

If the show is mediocre and you never say anything, how are the writers going to know that they need to improve ?

also your logic fails. the tv stations don't care what the vocal minority(which so far seems to be quite major), They care about pure hard viewer numbers. so by your logic, if you want all the people who don't like it to not watch it rather than complain so the show might be improved... that has a bigger chance of getting the show canceled.

You missed my point entirely. They will end up using it again and again to create fake tension because the SG writers have been lazy for years. They've always loved throwing in impossible last minute saves against a ticking clock, heck they even referenced it themselves in the 200th episode of SG-1

Shows aren't cancelled on people bitching online, else Big brother, xfactor and other stuff would have been canceled YEARS ago. Shows live or die by ratings, that's about it.

and just because I'm whining about it, doesn't mean I'm not going to watch it all. I clearly like it enough to spend an hour or so of my time a week watching it, it just bores me when the writers resort to boring clich?'s that have been done to death a million times before in previous Stargate/Sci-fi shows. It makes for predictable and ultimately dull TV.

Did Jedi steal your password?

Why do people have to call this funny names like Battlestargate: Lost in Deep Space Voyager 9. It's a sci-fi in space. Tons of things have been done already and there may be similar themes in SGU but I don't see any blatant copying going on.

Atlantis had me face palming a lot because they carbon copied many episodes SG-1. So far I am not getting that feeling on SGU but we'll see how that turns out once the first season is done.

maybe because it IS lost in space with a Stargate twist.

and by twist, I mean they're reusing thr atlantis script.

let get throught he steps here

1. gather unlikely crew: check

2. impress with stargate and cool unknown technology: check

3. travel through stargate to unkown location: check

4. No way back: check

5. limited communication: check

6: food/water/air crisis: check

7: partially solve food/water/air crisis: check

8: lose some people that will later return as enemyallies: check

9: Meet awesome humanoi(cheap makeup) alien that will become part of the exploratory crew: not yet, possibly first sign with the ship that dropped off at the end.

Eventually we'll get to the point where they get a gate back to earth or atlantis partially working so they can skip back and forth or drop off supplies. but probably not this season. First we have to milk the all alone with no equipment on a broken ship aspect. not like we've seen that before... Then comes the intergalactic super aliens that have been taking potshots at this shops and probably the gate seeders through the milennia. I bet we'll be paying a visit to the first downed gate seeder near the middle or end of this season.

I agree with Rob, unless we see blatant copying from other shows/episodes, then we should just watch it for enjoyment. I mean if you see a wookie, a light saber, pointy earred freaks, cybornetic crap,..then cry about it. What we should see is a continuation of some of the same themes that occurred with SGA and SG1. SGU will expand upon what we know from the two previous shows and some things will be new. The Gould have been round for thousands of years. Who's to say that the group the SG1 were fighting werent' the only ones? Who's to say that all of the replicators or Orai have been defeated? Just relax and enjoy the ride. At least we do have a possible decent SCI FI show to watch.

You know I had a good chuckle in the irc yesterday suggesting that dr who drop in to SGU, I think I'd find it amazingly amusing. With no dominant bad guy in this series there will be a decent amount of skirmish action with lots of new or reused ideas thrown in to the fray but some idea's you've seen before are bound to show up.

Hey a sci-fi show in space, with stargates. So far it's ok, but what other sci-fi shows are out there right now? So I'll take what I can get.

This is what keeps syFy in business and probably why they changed name.

With noone else making SciFi they have no competition, so they can make do with a single show, on a fairly low budget, and fill the rest up with re-runs and reality and straight to dvd tv movies.

When's that Star War live action show coming anyway ? shouldn't that be right around the corner by now, we're already on season two of clone wars.

I miss the days of having several space sci-fi shows to choose from.

I watched ep3. I'm thinking, what about the air and water? Do they have an endless supply or something? What's with the lime? I forgot what they were going to do with it. Don't care to watch again for that. It's alright, but could be better.

The lime is used to filter out CO2. Spaceships recycle everything from what you pee to what you exhale. They do this to some extent on the international space station as well. It means the supplies last longer.

lime absorbs carbon dioxide to form calcium carbonate... the fact that lime does this is part of high school level science and important in the 'carbon cycle', it was also explained in the episode for people that weren't already aware ;)

also, if you look on epguides.com you will see in a few episodes time that there is one called 'water', this, coupled with the fact that a number of times the word ration is used in the first three episodes would mean that no, there is not an endless supply.

seriously, next time, watch the show properly, or just not at all :p

Hahaha. I had a good laugh when I read that in #neowin [iRC].

    • Linux 7.1 arrives with an NTFS overhaul and major hardware performance boosts by Paul Hill The founder of the Linux kernel has just announced the availability of Linux 7.1. This is a stable version of the kernel that will now be tested by various Linux distributions before it is shipped to users through update managers. Some users, like those on Debian, for example, might not get it for a long time, if at all, while Fedora users can expect it in the near future. With Linux 7.1 out on time, the merge window for Linux 7.2 is now open, giving contributors the opportunity to send in major new features that have been waiting for the last two months. Torvalds warned that he is currently travelling and will be in another timezone, so timing for the merge window may be irregular due to timezone differences and limited internet access. Torvalds said that he has already fetched early pull requests to allow him to do some offline work, but the travel could still cause disruption. Right now, he is not planning to extend the release, but did consider it. He said he might later regret not extending, though. In terms of this last week of development for Linux 7.1, Torvalds said there were no major or alarming changes. This week consisted mostly of smaller driver updates to GPU, networking, and sound, networking fixes, trace tooling fixes, and misc minor fixes. The shortlog this week lists fixes for driver bugs, memory leaks, I/O and USB fixes, networking and RDMA fixes, DRM/graphics fixes, and tooling and verification improvements. Specific fixes include USB series heap-overflow and buffer overflow fixes, and multiple use-after-free, memory-leak, and refcount corrections across subsystems such as i2c, zram, gpio, and net. There are fixes for graphics drivers, including amdgpu, i915, and virtio, as well as hypervisor and virtualization tweaks affecting mshv, vmbus, and hyperv. According to Phoronix, anyone running Linux 7.1 should look out for the new NTFS driver, Intel FRED for improved performance on Panther Lake and future CPUs, faster graphics with Intel Arc Battlemage, and improvements for older AMD Radeon GPUs. If you are running Linux on your computer and everything is fine, then you don’t need to worry about updating to Linux 7.1 as a priority; just wait for it to be pushed to you. If you have tried Linux on hardware but it didn’t work properly, trying again with a distro that uses Linux 7.1 could cause Linux to work on your machine, thanks to the new hardware support.
