"The Amazing Spiderman" (2012)

I really liked this one. It definitely felt better than the previous ones, peter's character sort of works better this way than before.

That said, you can tell this movie was done having in mind that the previous ones are still in most people's recent memory. For the good and the bad.

You can tell they hurried up the whole process of becoming spiderman this time, and for good reason: nobody wants to see the same plot twice. So I have mixed feelings about it, because in the end, it IS the same plot. you can tell they even worked around the whole great power, great responsibility thing when uncle ben says that other thing lol.

As for the good... I liked that there wasn't a "retarded" peter awakening to his powers (like with tobey), and the robbery scene/uncle ben's death is much more conflicting because it's not like the robber stole THAT much lol. It was a minor robbery and the store dude was a jackass, so he had it coming. SO this time around you dont feel peter's the jackass.

Also liked that they werent that blatant with the SFX... i mean, in the older movies its like they tried to show peter "flying" around as much as possible. And the cranes were a good touch too, because let's face it, even in the comics it is sort of unrealistic that he's hanging from stuff in the middle of the streets.

anyway good film

OK so I liked the movie. I think however there wasn't enough fighting and the lizard thing was a little corny at points. I give the movie originality points for the whole sewer web thing.

Had to see it in 3D as the regular was sold out for the time slot. 3D is over rated IMHO.

8 out of 10 score

also, leaving the whole bing thing aside, that was some ugly ass xperia phone.

Hah yeah. I was kinda laughing at the whole Microsoft promotion stuff in the movie :p

I'm still surprised how much I enjoyed it, considering how non-plussed I was with Gwen and Lizard. I think the robbery scene really sold it for me. It was so much better in the new one and how the search was allowed to further shape his character. The Toby one again was just too neat and polished.

Fantastic. I loved every minute. The only scene the bothered me greatly was when Curt first ended up in the sewer, and transformed back into a human... And magically found a completely dry blanket for the next scene. Minus that, awesome cinema experience.

I thought it was great myself. I really liked the actors, and I'm glad they didn't stray too far from the comics - it was a lot closer than the other movies, which maybe went a bit too far off on their own at times. But that's just geek rage. Mainly, I hated the actors in the others, but it was the dancing scene in the third one that really sealed the deal for me :pinch: Can't wait to see the next one, though!

9/10

the best spiderman movie made so far....Maguire acts Peter as goofy kid but Garfield gave parker a coolness factor not just while in costume.

He's the best actor to protray the Peter Parker I remember from the comics. look forward to sequels. (Y) (Y)

I was confused on the webbing part too. It looked like he stole some from Oscorp then synthesized his own (instead of developing it himself)?

In the movie I believe they said something about devices that could hold hundreds of feet of micro cable or something. I think the devices shot it. In the end when the green thing crushes his wrists it all shoots out too.

I thought it was great. It's my second favourite Spider-Man movie, after Spider-Man 2.

Loved the retelling of the origin, and I LOVED the mechanical web shooters. Loved the red glow, and the tactility of the web. Seems a lot more solid.

However, I wasn't sure about them removing the mask at almost every opportunity.

I didn't like the removing of the mask either... But how I decided to view it, is that he is new to this. He never thought about the ones he loved becoming a target, or that his identity would bring them that harm. But he learned that later on in the film.

Yes, but that was the Oscorp biostring or whatnot. I doubt Spidey is going to break in everytime he needs a refill. ;)

The mask removal is because its a movie so I can deal. Toby pulled his off quite a bit too.

I enjoyed the film, and I'll give it 9/10.

Since I've never read the comics, and I probably never will, how come the story of his 'ability' has changed from the film starring Tobey Maguire?

1) I understand that Peter's Uncle was killed, but both portrayed that differently...which was was right, or were neither of them?

2) Also Tobey Maguire's Spider-man could shoot web through is wrists (naturally made) whereas Andrew Garfield's was synthesized spider web from Oscorp mechanically fired by devices on his wrists. That's a massive change to make, I'm wondering why.

3) Are the two versions of Spider-man set at about the same period in his life? As both were college/school kids, yet both portrayed his development much different.

This iteration of Spider-man is much closely linked to the original comics. I believe they wanted to try and bring the franchise closer to it's roots.. Hence the mechanical web shooters and other stuff.

1) The second one was closer to canon (and executed much better imo)

2) Spidey started with self made web-slingers - reasons he made the famous hand gesture.

3) The first trilogy spanned much more time than the new one. He's in high school the entire time vs HS/College/Job/Apartment etc.

Gonna have to give us more than that Hurm.

    • I know I won't ever be using it to make my game. I'd rather pay humans.
    • Nah. For every indie dev that needs to create code for "stuff" or textures, it's a godsend enabler to possibly tackle a project that you may not otherwise. The end result and testing will tell the truth if everything works or doesn't, or a game is just mediocre slop, but now these tools are now there and it's the developer's duty to judge the outcome, and even more so for pro studios. And you gotta remember that they will be at an early stage.
    • whoosh my comment went over your head. Enjoy your notchless 3:2 OLED device
    • As a game dev, today was really depressing. They announced that Blueprints will be deprecated in UE6 to be fully replaced by their sh**ty Python-like Verse language... They also announced that 5.8 will be the last version of UE5 until UE6 comes out in MID 2029!!!! They have completely lost the plot.
