Female Fan's Kiss Ends Music Concert in Kuwait

Recommended Posts

KUWAIT CITY (AP) -- A Kuwaiti official says authorities abruptly ended a music concert by an Egyptian singer in this conservative Muslim country when a young female fan jumped on stage, hugged the male singer and gave him a kiss.

Qanas al-Adwani, who heads the government department that monitors public entertainment, says the girl's behavior at Friday's concert ''defied the conservative traditions'' of Kuwait.

Al-Adwani also said Sunday that the fan's behavior broke controls on public entertainment, which were imposed by influential Muslim fundamentalists after they failed in 1997 to ban concerts altogether. Concerts have to be licensed by the government, and monitors from the Information Ministry watch the crowd to make sure nobody stands up to dance.

Sounds like a scene in a movie about a police state that has gone too far ... crazy...

Wow just wow...

Not sure whether to laugh or be shocked. Didn't realise it was that conservative.

Didn't see any of this in the newspaper. 0.o and they're very strict in this types of situations. In more relaxed situations like school, I see people kissing, of course out of the way of prying teachers eyes :p

And probably the girl is now dead, or wishing she was dead.

They don't kill for something as stupid as that in Kuwait. They probably fined her and sent her on her way. Probably same thing that would happedn in the US or the UK, but I guess its much less likley there.

you dont get fined or anything in the west.....

its called freedom :)

Im sorry but i always though kuwait was cool, and didnt have the saudi mentalty......

ah well :)

I understand that it is the way they live and it is their religion and choice however, I do think that sometimes these things go a little too far.

I agree but as always you get yelled at when comparing religions so I will stay away from that.

Ugh, kuwait, its like comparing a tent to a skyscraper, everything is diffrent, including the prospective, a "woman" in country's like that, thats extremely muslim, needs to hide ALL her skin but eyes, the fact she jumped on the stage itself, is an outrage for them, extremely bad, they just see things diffrently (not saying they're prospective is right, nor is just, not at all)

Women's in 3rd world countrys many of them are still treated as cleaners, cooks, house duty doers, and not equal, when a man should be doing the "work of the lord" and so on,(actually studied about it this year, it goes all way back to the book Bereshit(i only know it by the hebrew name) which is the first book in the Tanak'h(tora neviem ktuvim), bereshit is first chapter, it's said that god made man, then took ehm, limb or something, and created women from it. its just to show how back theese things go, and how wrong things can be interpented.

im sorry, iv'e gone way off topic and already forgot the subject :/ Self Fail.

well, atleast you guys learned something

You think somebody would get fined for kissing a performer at a concert in the US or UK? What law, exactly, would they be breaking?

Unless they assaulted the performer, it's likely that nobody would think anything of it.

Obviously for the people who went to the concert, it isn't their religion or choice. As the article said, if the Muslim fundamentalists had their way, there would be no music allowed at all. Music in all forms is banned by the crazies as it promotes independent thought and an appreciation of beauty here on earth that doesn't come from their cult's stupid book.

    • Sorry I mean your back rest on your Herman, can you move the back say 2cm then lock it? Then realise 2cm isn’t enough and you want an extra 1cm then lock it into that position? Basically like in an older car seat, you turn the knob round until you get the back recline precisely where you want it, this is what I found the Herman wouldn’t do
    • WTF? I am not taking a video of myself to access a site or to create an account. What are they thinking? I don’t even have a webcam on my main desktop PC. The powers to be are really looking to normalize the taking of pics or submitting ID for everything. I afraid most people will end up just going along with it.
