[Official] Far Cry 2

Recommended Posts

The game is absolutely fantastic. I really enjoy the sandbox feel and just the variety in the landscape. Going from the deep jungle in the north to basically the open desert in the south is really cool. I haven't done many story missions as I have been doing many gun/weapon side missions at the moment.

This game probably has some of the most realistic fire I have ever seen. Just the way that it can engulf an area is so real. I sat my friend down to show him how quickly a fire could get out of hand and even destroy a tree!

My only real complain is the cars and fixing them. Literally they take just 3-4 shots before they start smoking and you have to fix them.

...

A little bit of Far Cry 2 I found while trying to find out more about this game to decide whether or not to buy. lol

The animals are indeed awesome. Sometimes it seems like they are few and far between though. The other day I drove into a pack of gazelles, crashed backed up and took a left. Unbeknown to me some more gazelles came through and I T-boned one going at max speed. Ouch!

that video is pretty hilarious :)

idk if i should buy this game... i did not like the gameplay in either Far Cry or Crysis :\ obviously the graphics were insane.... is the gameplay better in FC2?

is just wow :woot: , very detailed (from opening a door to the healing system), weapons feel excellent, no mutants/zombies/aliens/etc, go get it

Anybody else notice just how many bullets people take before they go down? I mean I had the light machine gun (in place of the rockets) and it still takes way too many shots to kill somebody.

I figured out how to make my heavy machine gun truck last, you have to buy the upgrade in the gun store.

omg no way! no zombies or mutants or aliens!?!? i thought it would never happen! :p

eh, idk yet. i'll probably wait until there's a deal or the price drops a little.

haha it's ridiculous. i unloaded a massive amount of bullets in this dude early on before he went down, ONLY TO GET UP AGAIN 5 SECONDS LATER!!

I hate that, why dont companies take a hint from COD 4's success. I hate it when they make enemies super though, i'd rather have them throw me 10 more enemies than 4 super though inhuman ones.

So instead you'd rather be super human yourself. A soldier who can take on 20 enemies at once who are all firing automatic weapons at you?

Just picked up my copy. I am having trouble activating. Called ubisoft tech support and they are telling me that there is a batch of cd keys that has not been put into the activation server yet. They said they should have the issue resolved within the hour. I took the day off from work to play this, I sure hope they fix it soon.

I think I'll wait for the first patch to come out before I pick my copy. Usually the first patch irons out a lot of important flaws.

I've read an early review that stated that the atmosphere is definitely there, but the AI is deeply stupid and enemies can take way too many bullets before dying. Also, that using the sniper extensively makes the game too easy. On the other hand, PC Gamer was very impressed and gave 94%, but sometimes I wonder if PC Gamer is not just trying to stimulate the pc gaming market for its own good.

Ok so i have been playing with the Map Editor for some time now and it kicks ass(PC version), i havent even played the main game yet!!!

The amount of stuff you can do and how easy it is, this must been a nightmare to program!!!!

I started with the obvious, i made a 10 story high tower of explosive barrels, and surrounded the area with oil/gas tanks, then i made a Watch tower with a gun mounted on top of it, and then i watched the insane fireworks, the explosion took like 5 seconds to stop at which point all the vegetation nearby was on flames, kick ass.

Also im AMAZED at the performance of this game, while watching that over the top explosion the lowest frame rate i got was 27 fps, and that was only in the worst part of that ridiculous explosion, this was at 1920 * 1200 with everything in Very High.

I would have paid $60 just for the map editor...

Yes the atmosphere is there, nailed it dead on. The enemies are a bit stupid at times but I'm playing on normal so I expected it. I don't bother much with any snipers because any I pick up are completely rusted. I know I could go to the gun shop and get one, but I find my diamonds being spent in other areas.

    • Qualcomm's new Snapdragon Reality Elite chip brings on-device AI to Android XR devices by Pradeep Viswanathan Qualcomm has been delivering dedicated SoCs for mixed reality and spatial computing devices for several years. The journey started with the Snapdragon XR1, followed by the Snapdragon XR2 in 2019, the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 in September 2023, and finally the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 in 2024. Today, Qualcomm announced a major upgrade with the new Snapdragon Reality Elite Platform, which targets premium mixed reality and spatial computing devices. OEMs can use this SoC to power both all-in-one video-see-through headsets and lightweight, tethered optical-see-through glasses. Qualcomm highlighted that the Snapdragon Reality Elite will power the next wave of Android XR devices coming later this year. These wearables will offer better visuals, improved power efficiency, and deeper on-device AI integration compared to the previous generation. The Snapdragon Reality Elite can deliver up to 48 TOPS of AI performance, allowing large language models and large vision models to run directly on the device for the first time. In addition to enabling new spatial AI experiences, these new AI capabilities will improve head and hand tracking, as well as see-through features. On the performance side, the Snapdragon Reality Elite offers up to 60% higher GPU performance, up to 30% higher CPU performance, and up to 160% higher NPU performance compared to the previous generation. The platform supports visuals of up to 4.4K per eye at 90 frames per second for sharper images and smoother motion. Qualcomm is also claiming significant efficiency improvements. The Snapdragon Reality Elite can offer up to 20% longer battery life under the same workload. More importantly, the chipset can run up to 12 degrees Celsius cooler under load, making headsets more comfortable for users to wear for longer periods. The platform also includes improvements to video see-through, featuring lower latency and better image quality. Qualcomm states that its EVA hardware block helps accelerate demanding computer vision workloads, improving how digital content blends with the real world.
    • Umm... GitHub continues to use AWS. That's the story, that's the headline. There's no "new" news here. GitHub continues to require additional capacity beyond the originally-planned Azure allocations. There's nothing special about this; nothing noteworthy. They're still using AWS' infra until the cutover is complete.

    • Hello, I have used a few TEAM Group SSDs, USB flash drives, and Micro SDXC cards in the past. They all seemed to work fine. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
    • "just $100 per TB"? Just? Are we trying to make this seem like the new normal? Kinda weird to make it sound like that is not a ridiculously expensive asking price.
