[Official] Far Cry 2

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I'd have to say, Far Cry 2 is utterly amazing so far. It beats STALKER for atmosphere, and that game has that shizzle down pat. It actually runs fairly smooth on my 6600 rig here, everything on low of course. I think I may be able to knock a few items to medium though, woooo.

I'm playing with everything on the highest settings with a 9800GTX+ and 2 Gigs of ram, and never going below 30 fps. Also the first time I saw my first pale yellow Dune Buggy I near orgasmed at how quickly I could jet across the country now.

HD4850: I had to turn shadows to medium. Some areas dipped below 30fps....bah! Let me know how it runs for you guys in the desert areas...

I noticed something VERY odd with the graphics settings. Lowering some settings yielded LOWER frame rates. wtf? o_O

How do I get past Mike's bar, won't let me do anything except buy guns and upgrades

Did you get the mission to go to the bar? :p

You know I was planning on skipping Far Cry 2 (loved the first one but) as it looks extremely boring, have to say though after seeing some more screenies of the other environments in the game, my interest has been rekindled :) I was thinking of getting it on either the PS3 or 360 so I can play it maxed out, but I think I'll go PC instead

It's turning out to be an expensive month I think :p (planning on getting RA3 next week too) ah well, can never have too many games :D

EDIT: On second though, I'm waiting for a demo (if there is even going to be one?) and see how well/bad it runs on my PC. I've already bought one game* that looked awesome, but was hugely disappointed when I took it home and it was unplayable on any setting on my PC :/ (I did check the system requirements and my PC did meet and even exceed some of them - but the thing is system requirements are purely a guide and not a guarantee it will even work).

* = No it wasn't Crysis :p that runs not too bad...well till you get to the ice levels, then it's a different ball game.

^ heh, it wasn't Crysis but Crysis didn't run too bad? What game was it then? :p

FC2 is not based on the Crysis engine and it seems to scale a lot better to older systems. There's tons of graphical settings you can tweak.

BTW, the AI in this game is dumb as hell. I've had enemies just stand around while I butchered their buddies. Canon fodder!!

haha yeah but the crysis ai isn't any better seems to be a problem with these new games. F.E.A.R had awesome A.I. wihs more games would work harder on ai intelligence instead of making them take 20 hits to kill like fc2 and crysis.

Overall though far cry 2 is a REALLY great game. I am having a blast with it. It looks beatiful and runs on ultra settings on my 9600gt with 2xaa. IMO even though the graphics aren't as good as crysis. The wolr feels more "real" and lifelike. This is one of the most immersive games I have ever played.

Havent played Far Cry 2 but IMHO AI in current games struggle with open door environments. You can add HL2 to the list of games where I thought the AI wasn't brilliant and I've long held the oppinion that HL1's AI was more effective. Not really because HL1's was more adept or technically advanced, it wasn't...but the closed environments with plenty of cover and walls to bounce grenades off gave the AI more chance to react sensibly to threats.

In many cases in HL2 and Crysis I found the AI really had no option to stand there and shoot at you simply because the environment doesn't offer them a huge amount of cover and until the AI learns to lean against trees or go prone in bushes ect then it'll continue to stand there like cannon fodder in open maps.

Not saying they can't be better, but I think they have to make the computer players movement options alot more flexible when it comes to open world games because they cant simply use ducking behind a wall as an example of good AI and effective cover.

Even Fears outdoor areas were largely designed quite similar to the indoor ones for instance with lots of huge structures for the AI to duck behind.

Anyway, think my copy ships today.

Could of sworn it was the Crytek engine. but meh. Far as I was aware it runs on the Dunia engine which was/is a heavily modded version of the engine used in Crysis (Crytek)

Crysis runs well (on low settings mind you) is what I meant :p

World in Conflict was the game I was referring to, Crysis runs better then it does....was quite disappointed.

Just started playing it, runs very smoothly, anyone tried it in very high settings with an 8800 GT DX10? Still does have that same annoyning problem when it doesnt start at full screen and you have to press alt+enter, maybe it uses a similar engine to asassin's creed

obviously you must of installed the wrong game and didn't bother paying attention to the last years worth of Developer videos

Wait, let me see my check list.

1. Install the correct game - CHECK

2. Pay attention to the last years worth of Developer videos - CHECK

3. Have the same taste and opinions on games as notuptome2004 - FAIL

I'll try and do better next time.

Having problems running this properly, but its not the video, its the sound.

I cant hear any reload animations, phone conversations (the phone ringing either) and other sound anomalies. Also, if an NPC is talking, I can only hear them in either the right or the left channel only (depending where my crosshair is).

I'm using it with an Audigy SE on vista x32. Any thoughts?

It really takes the fun out and has made it unplayable for me.

Also, sorry if its been posted by theres a hotfix for this game if you got an ATI card.

    • Same Internet Archive seemed to grab the new version https://web.archive.org/web/20...d/Setup_MakeMKV_v1.18.4.exe Here's the link to an additional file it periodically downloads https://web.archive.org/web/20260213092148/https://www.makemkv.com/sdf.bin I think update's keys, etc. To manually trigger this update, put the sdf.bin file in the root of where the program is installed. When you launch the program it will pick up the file and import it. Typically put it here: C:\Program Files (x86)\MakeMKV\sdf.bin
    • Windows 11 KB5094126, KB5093998 bugging out Office apps but it may not be Microsoft's fault by Sayan Sen Microsoft last week released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. Although the tech giant did not acknowledge any major problems, some users online reported various issues ranging from OneDrive and Dropbox access problems, BitLocker recovery lockouts, to blue screens and BSODs. You can read about them in this dedicated piece. While there is still no confirmation about those problems from Microsoft the company has admitted to another bug which we did not report on. The tech giant has confirmed it has received reports of an issue in which certain third-party applications may be unable to launch Microsoft Office apps or open Office documents after installing the Patch Tuesday. This affects both Windows 11 as well as Windows 10. The company says the problem impacts a subset of applications that rely on OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) automation to communicate with Microsoft Office programs. According to Microsoft, affected scenarios involve third-party software attempting to open Office applications or documents from within their own interface. In such cases, the Office program may fail to launch altogether, or the requested document may not open. Oddly there may not be any error message, which probably makes the issue difficult to diagnose. The bug affects several Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other apps in the Microsoft Office suite when they are launched through the affected software. These include tax and accounting software such as CCH Engagement and Workpaper Manager, dental practice management solutions like Dentrix and Softdent, as well as the popular research and reference management tool Zotero. Microsoft adds that other applications using similar Office integration methods could also experience the same problematic behavior. To understand the issue it is important to look at OLE, the Microsoft technology involved. OLE allows different applications to work together and share data, while its Automation feature lets one program control another. Thus this enables third-party software to launch Microsoft Office apps, open documents, and perform tasks automatically without requiring users to switch between programs. Because many accounting, healthcare, research, and business applications rely on OLE automation to interact with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office apps, any disruption can break those workflows. As a result, affected software may be unable to open Office documents or launch Office applications even though the programs themselves continue to work normally. At the moment the company has not provided a permanent fix though it has confirmed that engineers are actively working on a resolution, which will be delivered through a future Windows update. As such additional details will be shared once more information becomes available. In the meantime, Microsoft recommends a simple workaround for affected users whic is to open the Office application or document directly rather than launching it through the third-party program. For enterprise customers and organizations managing larger deployments, Microsoft says an additional mitigation is available. Admins experiencing the problem on their managed devices are advised to contact Microsoft Support for business to obtain and apply the workaround.
