[Official] Far Cry 2

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I'd have to say, Far Cry 2 is utterly amazing so far. It beats STALKER for atmosphere, and that game has that shizzle down pat. It actually runs fairly smooth on my 6600 rig here, everything on low of course. I think I may be able to knock a few items to medium though, woooo.

I'm playing with everything on the highest settings with a 9800GTX+ and 2 Gigs of ram, and never going below 30 fps. Also the first time I saw my first pale yellow Dune Buggy I near orgasmed at how quickly I could jet across the country now.

HD4850: I had to turn shadows to medium. Some areas dipped below 30fps....bah! Let me know how it runs for you guys in the desert areas...

I noticed something VERY odd with the graphics settings. Lowering some settings yielded LOWER frame rates. wtf? o_O

How do I get past Mike's bar, won't let me do anything except buy guns and upgrades

Did you get the mission to go to the bar? :p

You know I was planning on skipping Far Cry 2 (loved the first one but) as it looks extremely boring, have to say though after seeing some more screenies of the other environments in the game, my interest has been rekindled :) I was thinking of getting it on either the PS3 or 360 so I can play it maxed out, but I think I'll go PC instead

It's turning out to be an expensive month I think :p (planning on getting RA3 next week too) ah well, can never have too many games :D

EDIT: On second though, I'm waiting for a demo (if there is even going to be one?) and see how well/bad it runs on my PC. I've already bought one game* that looked awesome, but was hugely disappointed when I took it home and it was unplayable on any setting on my PC :/ (I did check the system requirements and my PC did meet and even exceed some of them - but the thing is system requirements are purely a guide and not a guarantee it will even work).

* = No it wasn't Crysis :p that runs not too bad...well till you get to the ice levels, then it's a different ball game.

^ heh, it wasn't Crysis but Crysis didn't run too bad? What game was it then? :p

FC2 is not based on the Crysis engine and it seems to scale a lot better to older systems. There's tons of graphical settings you can tweak.

BTW, the AI in this game is dumb as hell. I've had enemies just stand around while I butchered their buddies. Canon fodder!!

haha yeah but the crysis ai isn't any better seems to be a problem with these new games. F.E.A.R had awesome A.I. wihs more games would work harder on ai intelligence instead of making them take 20 hits to kill like fc2 and crysis.

Overall though far cry 2 is a REALLY great game. I am having a blast with it. It looks beatiful and runs on ultra settings on my 9600gt with 2xaa. IMO even though the graphics aren't as good as crysis. The wolr feels more "real" and lifelike. This is one of the most immersive games I have ever played.

Havent played Far Cry 2 but IMHO AI in current games struggle with open door environments. You can add HL2 to the list of games where I thought the AI wasn't brilliant and I've long held the oppinion that HL1's AI was more effective. Not really because HL1's was more adept or technically advanced, it wasn't...but the closed environments with plenty of cover and walls to bounce grenades off gave the AI more chance to react sensibly to threats.

In many cases in HL2 and Crysis I found the AI really had no option to stand there and shoot at you simply because the environment doesn't offer them a huge amount of cover and until the AI learns to lean against trees or go prone in bushes ect then it'll continue to stand there like cannon fodder in open maps.

Not saying they can't be better, but I think they have to make the computer players movement options alot more flexible when it comes to open world games because they cant simply use ducking behind a wall as an example of good AI and effective cover.

Even Fears outdoor areas were largely designed quite similar to the indoor ones for instance with lots of huge structures for the AI to duck behind.

Anyway, think my copy ships today.

Could of sworn it was the Crytek engine. but meh. Far as I was aware it runs on the Dunia engine which was/is a heavily modded version of the engine used in Crysis (Crytek)

Crysis runs well (on low settings mind you) is what I meant :p

World in Conflict was the game I was referring to, Crysis runs better then it does....was quite disappointed.

Just started playing it, runs very smoothly, anyone tried it in very high settings with an 8800 GT DX10? Still does have that same annoyning problem when it doesnt start at full screen and you have to press alt+enter, maybe it uses a similar engine to asassin's creed

obviously you must of installed the wrong game and didn't bother paying attention to the last years worth of Developer videos

Wait, let me see my check list.

1. Install the correct game - CHECK

2. Pay attention to the last years worth of Developer videos - CHECK

3. Have the same taste and opinions on games as notuptome2004 - FAIL

I'll try and do better next time.

Having problems running this properly, but its not the video, its the sound.

I cant hear any reload animations, phone conversations (the phone ringing either) and other sound anomalies. Also, if an NPC is talking, I can only hear them in either the right or the left channel only (depending where my crosshair is).

I'm using it with an Audigy SE on vista x32. Any thoughts?

It really takes the fun out and has made it unplayable for me.

Also, sorry if its been posted by theres a hotfix for this game if you got an ATI card.

Changelog: Floating 'Dynamic Island' Window Controls The window controls have been redesigned for a cleaner interface. Floating Capsule Pill (#199): Replaces traditional window controls with a floating pill-shaped widget in the top-right corner. Includes hover glow transitions. Compact Size: Reduced the size of caption buttons to maximize screen space for images. Interactive Filmstrip Gallery The filmstrip gallery has been redesigned with improved controls and animations. Top-Hover Trigger: Hover near the top edge to expand the filmstrip gallery. The trigger mode can be set to Hover, Pinned, or Disabled via the Settings menu. Visual Refinements: Corrected visual gaps when pinned, fixed zoom anchor offsets, and restored smooth horizontal auto-scrolling. Dual-Mode Slideshow Spotlight Mode: Added a slideshow mode inspired by Picasa Spotlight, which dims the background and focuses on the active image. Normal Mode: Standard fullscreen slideshow functionality. Fully Customizable Hotkeys Custom Keyboard Mapping: Added support for completely customizing and rebinding all core keyboard shortcuts and navigation hotkeys directly within the Settings menu. UI/UX Adjustments & Window Snapping Magnetic Snapping (#90): Window borders now snap to screen edges (100% magnetic snap) when resized. Fixed frame count and distortion issues on large GIF seeking (#197). Extended Mouse Mapping (#191): Added support for mapping multi-function mouse side buttons in settings. Archive Sorting (#193): Added an option to always sort archives by name ascending. Footprint Compression & Size Optimizations Reduced the binary size of the standalone executable by removing redundant templates and dependencies. C++ Stream Elimination: Removed dependencies, saving approximately 18.5 KB. Localization Deduplication: Consolidated localization string tables, saving 10.5 KB by preventing template duplication. Vector Icon Compression: Compressed static vector icon coordinates to 16-bit integers, saving 54 KB. Code Devirtualization: Replaced std::function callbacks with C-style function pointers and devirtualized core controllers to reduce overhead. LTO Debug Fix: Removed obsolete compiler flags (/MERGE:.rdata=.text) from Link-Time Optimization (LTO) builds to fix minidump crash debugging. Decoding & Memory Fixes Hybrid Allocation: Implemented a hybrid memory allocator to balance preloading and tile rendering. Access Violations: Fixed crashes when rapidly switching images. HDR in Archives: Resolved an issue where HDR images decoded from ZIP/RAR archives lost their peak luminance metadata or failed to render in float format. WebP, AVIF & JXL (#195): Fixed shadow transparency glitches in WebP/AVIF and image distortion in JPEG XL. • There was a Spider-Man game back in the day that had these as well. When other people played, they got gamer ads. When I played, I got ads for Visual Studio on the billboards in the city.
