Hope Dark Alex can get onto this quickly, looks good!

Might take some time, the current firmware dumper needs updated

RSPsar.Dumper.v3.5.For.4.05-RedSquirrel can detect and attempt to decrypt but errors out when using any option. (square, cross, circle)

Errors out with '00001'

I am talking about basic features here. NXE is completely different. Its an entirely dash overhaul and somehow MS have managed to get it together is a space of 6ish months while Sony on the other hand need 3+ years for Home and it still will be in beta. Point is, the reason why PS3 had so many firmware updates 1/2 times a month is because of the 'missing features' they have 1)planned 2)decide to implement later on.

...

Just like to point out, that I very much doubt NXE was designed, developed, programmed and tested in that time frame, we missed a Spring update, so we are going back almost a year since the last update, and who knows how long it has been in production.

Also some people would say chat for more than 2 people should have been there since launch for Xbox 360, as they have asked every for it every update.

I am fed up with console bashing in general, each to his own.

I don't think many are going to say NXE is a larger scale project to try and deliver successfully than Home (and no, that is in NO way a comment on quality). Not excusing Home delays, but if you don't have a project on the scale of Home polished and ready to go, launching will be a terrible mistake.

That gave me a big laugh. NXE is less complex than Home? seriously? Home is just an app running on the PS3 OS. If it doesn't work, PS3 still works (since XMB is the OS). If NXE has major bugs, then XBOX360 stops working. So which is of "larger scale"?

I would say NXE is a major update than Home ever will be.

My 2c. You folks can continue.

Already done, DA is fast

This is psardumper to extract 5.00.

Modules of psp3000 cannot be extracted and decrypted yet, due to keys being in 3000 ipl (kernel keys) and mesg_led03g.prx (filenames table keys).

Due to that, you will see various "warnings", just ignore that.

You understand what I mean by larger scale?

Bigger project, costs more money, need more testing, dealing with a lot more technicalities - Copyright infringement, video services shown in home, contracts with game designers/developers/3rd parties to make content within Home.

Then there is all the 3D modeling, designs, etc and everything else.

Networking will be far more taxing on a 3D virtual service as well.

Maybe you misunderstood, I'm not playing down the scale of a graphical user interface and the networking behind it, plus all the additions MS are adding (avatars/new channels/deal with netflix) however most of what NXE is using as it's backbone is already in place - The system the current Dashboard uses behind the scene.

MS aren't changing ALL of that, some of it, yeah.

Home is an individual application to the XMB, it has to integrate with the XMB yeah, but most of is built up from the ground supporting the 3D service.

NXE is still using the 2D service MS already have in place.

Home is larger project than NXE in my books on scale. Quality need not apply, we'll see how polished both are at release.

Preference? Up to you what you want/like better, however we've already established Home can't really be compared to NXE on it's own.

edit: Probably a bad analogy but think of it as creating a 2D game and a 3D one. The 2D game can be far superior, but on the whole the 3D game will go through more technicalities and difficulties due it being more complex. You think was it worth going 3D then? Maybe not, but maybe yeah, need to wait and find out.

The new firmware added new icon to the XMB. I'll have to find out the ID of the new icons and add them to my themes. If anyone find out the new ids please let me know. :)

I see NXE as completely replacing the 360 OS. So it requires a lot more testing (all games work, Live and media networking etc etc). As I said, the reliability requirements for NXE are much higher than Home. That's how I see it - I might be wrong. I am not discounting the scale of Home as such. Just noting that you can't say that NXE needs a lot less work because it's just UI overhaul (which it is but not just that).

The 2D/3D argument doesn't sound right. NXE isn't completely 2D (avatars and the main UI itself is not "flat"). My point is just that NXE is more mission critical than Home is.

Sorry for OT so much.

That I agree with, so I'm glad you clarified :p

If NXE is buggy MS will be slated cause the current Dash isn't.

If Home is buggy, which it will be, Sony will have more room for patching/forgiveness due to the organic nature and size of such application. That doesn't mean it can come out broken to hell (which probably explains 2 delays), it just means there will be more expectance of issues.

Obvious reason being XMB is the PS3 OS mainframe, Home is the supplement (but may become the mainframe for those interested in it), and so for now can be ignored/not used.

NXE is the 360 OS mainframe, and has to be used, so if it's not 100% ready to go when released, you'll have the internet happy to jump and go wild.

However Home is "mission critical" in the sense it has to be worthwhile for all the time, money, effort and work Sony are putting in

List of All PSP Games Available on PSP Store

Firmware version 5.0 launched today, and along with it access to the Playstation Store direct from the PSP. So far, the store is working great. Later today, you will be able to read all of our impressions on the PSP firmware 5.0 release in a special feature. For now, we have compiled a list of all the games currently available through the PSP Playstation Store in North America. So far, there is a pretty solid selection of titles, but we hope that Sony sees fit to eventually release all UMD-only titles to the PSP Store within a reasonable amount of time. Donwloading games directly to memory stick is just sooooooo convenient.

Quite a decent package for launch!

NXE is a UI enhancement/API update. If you really think its a new OS than you should be really naive. The GUI component was componentized from the start. Last I know the group that was working on the update was trying to integrate objects with each other and with hosted services.

wish they would come out with twisted metal or destruction derby for ps3....they were really fun back in the day.

Twisted Metal is being made for the PS3, but Jaffe said we'd probably need to wait till GDC 09 (Feb) for the announcement at the soonest.

NXE is a full UI shell replacement.

but it's not just that, there's several changes to the underlying "OS" as well. to facilitate new fucntions in the new shell. Then there's several ucntion that are new fucntions in the "OS" code such as the group chat.

Are you sure you wanna call it shell?

Well seems like Hulu is working (US only) so I'm happy :)

So now they supposedly added screenshot support, which again needs developer support to work. Did MS patent screenshots too?

Just like the mediocre in-game music implementation I don't understand this lack of commitment on such a simple feature  .

Lack of commitment would be not even trying to add new unique features in the first place.

Don't know any ins or outs on why it needs patching support (no other competitor has it on a console, therefore we haven't experienced it, seen it working, or know complexities), however you can swing the commitment pendulum at developers as well.

Clearly the OS will handle a lot of the work, how hard is it for developers to add music/screenshot support?

Yeah bit of a bummer, let's just hope the worthwhile games get it. If not, tell the developers every chance you get!

it is what it is.

Well granted the shell is only part of NXE, but the NXE shell is the visible part. but not the only part of NXE

Ricardo, I agree with you on that. We got in-game music, but none of my games support it, so what's the point in that? Yes, you can blame the developer, but still, I haven't found a single use for in-game XMB except for messaging.

Dumping a framebuffer to a file is as easy as it gets, why do games even need to be patched? That's what really puzzles me.

I just don't like Sony doing this because it gets frustrating for the developers. Who knows what Sony will "force" them with next time after the games are out.

    • Stop asking people that. It's a "No True Scotsman" argument in that you are attempting to discredit the opinions of a person by Attacking the Messenger. The reason that these are logical fallacies is the TRUTH is based on facts as supported by evidence. Nothing else. So, always debate the facts with evidence to reach the truth. Once you learn to do this, you'll be able to recognize when people are fearmongering and lying to you for their own selfish ends.
    • It doesn't matter if you didn't directly hear it from person X or Y. Every one of your statements comes straight from the racist, skinhead, anti-immigrant, be afraid of everything, "they are all taking our jobs", etc. etc. mouthpieces. That's where Farag and Putin heard it from too...and used it against the UK. So, while you keep disavowing the people who publicly peddled that position, you keep proving over and over again that those lies influenced you into being tricked when the Brexit vote came around too. In fact, your final sentence makes it crystal clear that it was the racist/anti-immigrant lies you fell and voted for, since you stated that you didn't have an issue with the economic trade issues with the EU. Ahem. To be clear, all of these LIES are EONS old, mate. They are the same fearmongering lies peddled to the same ignorant, gullible cowards by the same charlatans, snake-oil salesmen, and would be demagogues who've been doing this since caveman Ugh lied about his slightly different neighbor in order to steal his land. And, finally, you answered your own previous question. The reason that the EU isn't clamoring to bring the UK back is that they have had enough of people who would rather shoot themselves in the foot than get over their "insecurity issues". It's the same reason the entire world is moving away from the USA as fast as it can...
    • Onkyo Dolby Atmos AV receivers are really solid deals by Sayan Sen Recently we covered great deals on several soundbar models from the likes of Sony, JBL, Samsung and others for really good prices (the lowest in several months). Aside from that we also reported on the Edifier S3000MKII, a hi-fi two-way bookshelf monitor that's available for only $800. Today we bring a list of AV receivers from Onkyo that are available at great prices including the Onkyo NR7100, RZ30, and 8470 (purchase links under the specs table down below). The Onkyo TX-NR7100 and Onkyo TX-RZ30 are both 9.2-channel AV receivers designed for immersive home theater setups but they occupy slightly different tiers within Onkyo’s lineup with the RZ30 positioned as the more advanced model. It supports Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and IMAX Enhanced formats, with flexible configurations such as 5.1.4 or 7.1.2 speaker layouts. A key highlight is its built-in Dirac Live Room Correction which should help optimize sound based on your room and its acoustics. In comparison, both models share several core capabilities though the RZ30 is geared toward enthusiasts seeking more precise calibration and system flexibility, while the NR7100 is positioned as a slightly more accessible, value-focused option with strong all-round performance.
