Might take some time, the current firmware dumper needs updated

RSPsar.Dumper.v3.5.For.4.05-RedSquirrel can detect and attempt to decrypt but errors out when using any option. (square, cross, circle)

Errors out with '00001'

I am talking about basic features here. NXE is completely different. Its an entirely dash overhaul and somehow MS have managed to get it together is a space of 6ish months while Sony on the other hand need 3+ years for Home and it still will be in beta. Point is, the reason why PS3 had so many firmware updates 1/2 times a month is because of the 'missing features' they have 1)planned 2)decide to implement later on.

Just like to point out, that I very much doubt NXE was designed, developed, programmed and tested in that time frame, we missed a Spring update, so we are going back almost a year since the last update, and who knows how long it has been in production.

Also some people would say chat for more than 2 people should have been there since launch for Xbox 360, as they have asked every for it every update.

I am fed up with console bashing in general, each to his own.

I don't think many are going to say NXE is a larger scale project to try and deliver successfully than Home (and no, that is in NO way a comment on quality). Not excusing Home delays, but if you don't have a project on the scale of Home polished and ready to go, launching will be a terrible mistake.

That gave me a big laugh. NXE is less complex than Home? seriously? Home is just an app running on the PS3 OS. If it doesn't work, PS3 still works (since XMB is the OS). If NXE has major bugs, then XBOX360 stops working. So which is of "larger scale"?

I would say NXE is a major update than Home ever will be.

This is psardumper to extract 5.00.

Modules of psp3000 cannot be extracted and decrypted yet, due to keys being in 3000 ipl (kernel keys) and mesg_led03g.prx (filenames table keys).

Due to that, you will see various "warnings", just ignore that.

Bigger project, costs more money, need more testing, dealing with a lot more technicalities - Copyright infringement, video services shown in home, contracts with game designers/developers/3rd parties to make content within Home.

Then there is all the 3D modeling, designs, etc and everything else.

Networking will be far more taxing on a 3D virtual service as well.

Maybe you misunderstood, I'm not playing down the scale of a graphical user interface and the networking behind it, plus all the additions MS are adding (avatars/new channels/deal with netflix) however most of what NXE is using as it's backbone is already in place - The system the current Dashboard uses behind the scene.

MS aren't changing ALL of that, some of it, yeah.

Home is an individual application to the XMB, it has to integrate with the XMB yeah, but most of is built up from the ground supporting the 3D service.

NXE is still using the 2D service MS already have in place.

Home is larger project than NXE in my books on scale. Quality need not apply, we'll see how polished both are at release.

Preference? Up to you what you want/like better, however we've already established Home can't really be compared to NXE on it's own.

edit: Probably a bad analogy but think of it as creating a 2D game and a 3D one. The 2D game can be far superior, but on the whole the 3D game will go through more technicalities and difficulties due it being more complex. You think was it worth going 3D then? Maybe not, but maybe yeah, need to wait and find out.

The new firmware added new icon to the XMB. I'll have to find out the ID of the new icons and add them to my themes. If anyone find out the new ids please let me know. :)

That I agree with, so I'm glad you clarified :p

If NXE is buggy MS will be slated cause the current Dash isn't.

If Home is buggy, which it will be, Sony will have more room for patching/forgiveness due to the organic nature and size of such application. That doesn't mean it can come out broken to hell (which probably explains 2 delays), it just means there will be more expectance of issues.

Obvious reason being XMB is the PS3 OS mainframe, Home is the supplement (but may become the mainframe for those interested in it), and so for now can be ignored/not used.

NXE is the 360 OS mainframe, and has to be used, so if it's not 100% ready to go when released, you'll have the internet happy to jump and go wild.

However Home is "mission critical" in the sense it has to be worthwhile for all the time, money, effort and work Sony are putting in :laugh:

NXE is a UI enhancement/API update. If you really think its a new OS than you should be really naive. The GUI component was componentized from the start. Last I know the group that was working on the update was trying to integrate objects with each other and with hosted services.

wish they would come out with twisted metal or destruction derby for ps3....they were really fun back in the day.

Twisted Metal is being made for the PS3, but Jaffe said we'd probably need to wait till GDC 09 (Feb) for the announcement at the soonest.

Lack of commitment would be not even trying to add new unique features in the first place.

Don't know any ins or outs on why it needs patching support (no other competitor has it on a console, therefore we haven't experienced it, seen it working, or know complexities), however you can swing the commitment pendulum at developers as well.

Yeah bit of a bummer, let's just hope the worthwhile games get it. If not, tell the developers every chance you get!

Ricardo, I agree with you on that. We got in-game music, but none of my games support it, so what's the point in that? Yes, you can blame the developer, but still, I haven't found a single use for in-game XMB except for messaging.

Dumping a framebuffer to a file is as easy as it gets, why do games even need to be patched? That's what really puzzles me.

I just don't like Sony doing this because it gets frustrating for the developers. Who knows what Sony will "force" them with next time after the games are out.

Is the trading part better? No, that is really mucked up, but then we knew that was going to happen and we would have make agreements, like we do with other parts of the world. As per a report by the Financial Times, Apple approached the Commerce Department more than a month ago and also spoke to other officials and allies in Washington. For starters, CXMT is a company that's already been placed on the Pentagon's list of Chinese military companies. The Chinese company is the country's top DRAM maker. For Apple, the timing is certainly awkward but not surprising. Tim Cook had recently warned that Apple would have to raise prices because AI companies are buying up large amounts of memory for data centers, and just like that, Apple raised MacBook and iPad prices. Micron also recently revealed that customers have committed billions of dollars to secure memory supply years in advance, which shows us how aggressive securing infrastructure has become. This gives suppliers such as Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron more leverage, while pushing hardware makers to look for alternatives. CXMT is one of those alternatives, but not the simplest one. Apple has spent many years trying to diversify parts of its supply chain away from China, especially for final assembly, while still depending heavily on Chinese manufacturing and suppliers. Even domestic brands from China are moving towards CXMT and YMTC instead of relying on Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix. For Apple, though, it would invite more scrutiny than local Chinese companies.
