Football: Winter Transfers 2008

Yeah I like him too (even though he's an ex Spur).. Rafa should definitely stick with him and give him a real go.. I can't understand why he prefers Kuyt TBH  .. Torres was injured and Keane did get a chance to show everyone what he can do but Rafa didn't give him real go for 10-12 games.. he's just out of form..

To put it simply, Kuyt does not play a strikers role so why would Keane be played consistently in his position.

Wenger was asked if the Arshavin deal was "close" and replied equivocally, with a mischeivous smile playing around the corners of his mouth.

"Close has not a lot of meaning," the Frenchman said.

"What is important is that you agree, and at the moment we have no agreement with anybody for a transfer."

As for whether the Gunners were confident of landing their player, Wenger was once again playing with a straight bat.

"We are always confident," he asserted. "We try our best and we respect our budget, and if we can find an agreement we'll do it. If we cannot, we'll still not overspend.

"When you go for a player it's because you want him."

Reports in England had earlier indicated that a work permit had been applied for and granted for the Russian star, but Wenger was at pains to contradict this story.

"We have not applied for a work permit yet for anybody. Not for Arshavin and not for anybody else."

Whether the protracted saga was affecting the relationship between Arsenal and Zenit, Wenger thought not.

"We have repsect for each other and that's it," he added.

WT*!!!! We needed atleast 3 players and have sign none till now.. the window closes in a few days and it seems Wenger is doing what he wants to do without any regard to what the fans want..

The latest twist in Andrei Arshavin?s proposed move to Arsenal comes from his agent, who has denied reports that his client is in London for talks with the Gunners.

It was widely reported in the media yesterday that the Russian had left Zenit St. Petersburg?s training camp in Dubai and was flying to London to watch Arsenal?s game against West Ham United at the Emirates.

.

.

.

However, the player?s agent Dennis Lachter has now denied Arshavin flew to the UK.

Speaking to The Guardian, he said, ?No, he is on his way to St Petersburg.?[/qu:/e]

:/

Looks as though he's played his last game for Newcastle then :(
Manchester City have completed the signing of goalkeeper Shay Given from Newcastle United.

The Republic of Ireland international underwent a medical at Eastlands on Sunday and has now sealed his switch to the ambitious outfit.

Given, 32, has put pen-to-paper on a four-and-a-half-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

The shot-stopper joined the Magpies in 1997 from Blackburn Rovers and made over 450 appearances for the club.

The Daily Mail claims that Blackburn Rovers will attempt to sign Kevin Kuranyi from Schalke 04 if Manchester City table one last offer for Roque Santa Cruz.

The Sky Blues have been hot on Santa Cruz's heels all January long, but the Riversiders have so far resisted any and all approaches from their mega-rich North West rivals.

However, it is understood that Mark Hughes & Co. are now prepared to meet Blackburn's ?20 million valutaion, meaning Sam Allardyce will need a replacement striker if the Paraguayan does in fact leave.

Reports again of Arshavin flying to London today..:ermm::

According to reports in the British press, Liverpool striker Robbie Keane could be on his way back to former club Tottenham Hotspur after only half-a-season at Anfield.

The Reds paid around ?20 million for the Republic of Ireland international in July 2008 but he has struggled to make an impact during his 28 appearances, scoring just seven goals.

Amid reports that Spurs had enquired about the availability of the 28-year-old, who was not even on the substitutes bench for yesterday's crunch tie with Chelsea, Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez was quoted by Sky Sports as saying, "I think Robbie Keane will be here when the transfer window shuts.

"He was left out because we were considering all our good players and who we needed for this game. It was only a decision based on this match and our requirements."

However, it has since been claimed that the 5ft 8in forward could be on his way back to White Hart Lane in a ?15m deal, with Liverpool considering signing Real Madrid striker Javier Saviola as a replacement.

A report in the British tabloid The Daily Mirror claims that the switch is on the cards, as long as Tottenham agree to let Aaron Lennon move to Liverpool in exchange.

Apparently, the idea of the swap was brought up last week but Spurs boss Harry Redknapp turned it down straight away.

mm.. Lennon for Keane? Could be a great bit of business by Liverpool..

Sky Sports News reporting that Premier League are in talks with FA and Fifa about "exploring the possibilities" of extending the transfer window due to "logisitcal issues"

I suppose "logistical issues" is a new thesaurus word for snow! :p

SSN are also reporting that Mike Ashley has emailed in telling them he might have some breaking news for their ticker...

Arsenal though have yet to increase their fee from the last rejected bid of ?12 million plus ?3 million of add-ons.

According to Sky Sports talks are continuing this afternoon in an attempt to salvage the transfer.

If a fee is agreed then Arshavin will not have far to travel as he is already stationed in north London.

Talks are ongoing!

Jo leaves Man City for Toffees..:s:s means more pressure on us now..

Arshavin in Arsenal, surely now :p

Yup.. reports are encouraging..

Latest reports from Sky indicate that Andrei Arhsavin's move from Zenit St. Petersburg to Arsenal is on the absolute verge of going through.

Within the last few minutes it has been said that the Gunners have agreed a fee with their Russian counterparts, and that Arshavin himself has received a wage offer acceptable to him.

All that remains now is one obstacle - albeit a tricky one.

Zenit are apparently holding out for a payment from Arshavin himself to compensate for his contractual value; until the Russian side receive a promise of this money then the transfer cannot take place.

However, with all else being confirmed, it is likely that this will be dealt with within the hour.

UPDATE 17:26 CET - It is confirmed that Arshavin has passed his medical. All that is needed now it Zenit's permission for the move to take place - but that hinges on the aforementioned player.

Now we just need a winger and a tall defender!!

We have been linked to Saviola (loan) though...

..provided someone loans him their brain and he uses it.. otherwise he's quite content to sit on the bench at Madrid and waste his career..

    • Uh, after intense testing now, 'Samsung Browser' is not the best one outside of 'Microsoft Edge' after all. Opera Air is that. It has "some" bloat, but it's far less than what both Microsoft Edge and Brave browser have.

    • Exciting! It’s amazing how hearing Japanese can naturally enhance the perceived quality of any experience or product.
    • Your other comment in another article says otherwise, namely "Microsoft veteran wants to replace every single line of C/C++ code with Rust and AI".
