FANTASTIC: Windows 7 Build 6956 new boot screen video

Recommended Posts

umm you guys are easily pleased :p I mean come on it's a freakin' boot screen for crying out loud! There are more important things in an OS then a boot screen, unless you plan to install Win 7 on a very slow PC?

Come on man, you gotta understand that Vista didn't come with anything except a bar moving inside another bar.

We want something like this so we can impress those with those funky apples on their computers.

Come on man, you gotta understand that Vista didn't come with anything except a bar moving inside another bar.

and what was wrong with that? :p I don't see why we must impress the Apple fan club, all they have is a white screen with the Apple logo on it! (last I checked) and they are gonna shoot down whatever MS does anyway :p

I think the whole point is they're taking criticism of their fit and finish shortcomings in Vista seriously this time around. If you check the Taskforce sites for Vista and Windows 7, there's a handful of issues reported there that have fixes in build 6801, even small things such as the Visual Effects tab in Performance Options, where the list of options doesn't fill the entire dialog, or even the green teal border some people were complaining about in Vista.

Microsoft may not have complete 100% control of the overall fit and finish of the OS; they are at the hands of OEMs who focus more on hardware sales than the user experience. But they're doing their part, and this revised boot screen is one of them.

I'm really liking what I see so far. The boot screen looks cool, as does the UI overhaul. I really think Windows 7 is "that OS" we've been waiting for a long time. Putting the Office team onto the Windows team was a great decision, and it shows.

Looks like i was right to as if anyone would like to see the boot screen return in Windows 7 and yet no-one thought Micrsosoft would do it..

Looks like my poll will be gaining votes

Windows 7 Boot Screen, Would You Like To See It Return

i wish there was more to it.... a little nice animation and then it jsut sits there for a few seconds while everything else loads. i kinda want the animation to take as long as the load should assuming you have a pretty fresh install.

The video makes it hard to tell that it's still animating as long as the logo is displayed (it kind of glows/pulses). Plus the Win7 boot up is pretty short anyway and you wouldn't want an animation where part of it gets cut off!

Looks excellent! Watch out though - that site tried to download a .ASPX file to my computer whilst I was watching the video..?

gotta watch some of those Chinese sites..sneaky little ******* sometimes...try to install all kinds of crap!

I'm sorry, and I really don't mean to threadcrap, but why do you guys really care what a bootscreen looks like?

I reboot my box about every patch tuesday, and that's really it. It takes about 20 seconds.

Knives could stab me in the eyeballs that often and I wouldn't care.

Really care? No. But I was interested how it looks like now.

And just FYI, there are many people out there who shut their computers down every day.

They won't care to stare at the boot screen. But who would say no to an improvement? ;)

Sure it's just a bootscreen, and doesn't mean much. BUT, I believe it shows the difference in a few things, first is performance, and 2nd is the fact they've changed the boot process itself.

It looks like video drivers and other core things load early, and overall faster now. The fact it's animated and not some basic picture like before shows that much.

They've also said they've done this type of work back at WinHEC from what I remember, and it's showing here.

If the video drivers are loaded they should only now let it run at Windows' resolution and try to avoid the flash of black before the logon screen, so the animation from bootscreen to login is smooth. Can't be too hard.

i am sure that is what they are doing but prolly still have a slab of small 1/2 sec of black but i am sure over time they will make it more seamlessly transioned or so. with all the drivers and devices loading up before windows is loaded makes alot of since i mean this is how things worked in longhorn if i remeber right before the desktop the alpha builds would display all services and drivers that are loading

    • Surprise Execs are dumb. I hope the rehired engineers said were not coming back until we get 2x our salary.
    • Ford execs say they made a mistake when they replaced human engineers with AI by David Uzondu Ford recently announced that over the last three years, it's had to rehire about 350 "gray beard" engineers to mentor younger staff and reprogram diagnostic systems and AI tools that were failing to meet up to quality expectations. The company's VP of vehicle hardware engineering, Charles **** said that leaders overlooked the deep experience of veterans who survived many product cycles. **** admitted that simply replacing them with AI was a huge mistake, and that while AI is "a fantastic tool," it remains "only as good as the information you use to train it." The rehired engineers now run mandatory meetings to troubleshoot vehicles and reprogram automated engineering software and AI tools to prevent glitches before production. These technical specialists hunt for failure points before parts ever reach the plant floor, helping prevent the massive recalls and defects that previously cost the company billions as it aims to cut one billion dollars in expenses this year. In last year's JD Power Quality Survey, an annual study that measures the quality of a car during the first three months of ownership, Ford finished 10th among mainstream brands and scored below the industry average. But this year, JD Power ranked the automaker as the top mainstream brand, placing it above the likes of Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. Ford attributed this massive improvement directly to the expertise of these returned engineers. Ford's realization that AI cannot magically design and test quality vehicles without senior human oversight is just the tip of the iceberg. When Careerminds looked at companies that conducted AI-driven layoffs, researchers found out that 35.6% of those companies had to rehire more than half of the employees they previously fired. Another 32.7% had to rehire between 25% and 50% of them. In 2024, Sebastian Siemiatkowski, CEO of Klarna, proudly announced that its new chatbot was doing the work of 700 full-time customer service agents. As a result, the fintech company froze hiring and cut hundreds of positions. But by mid 2025, and into 2026, Klarna was scrambling to recruit human agents again because customer satisfaction had plummeted. It turns out, while AI is very good at answering basic questions like how to check an account balance, when faced with complex customer issues that require nuance, the thing usually resorts to the unhelpful, robotic corporate jargon we all know and love.
    • Free AI in IDEs is shifting to paid models Or you know, you could just learn to actually design and code apps, use frameworks to handle the repetitive parts and not use AI at all - and voila... free for life!
    • In a sane world US antitrust laws wouldn't even allow these companies to be in the position to be subjected to EU directives. As you say, better than oligarch nothing.
    • Apple reportedly has a second-generation iPhone Fold planned for 2027 Good grief, Apple hasn't even released a first folding phone and the Apple faithful is already obsessing over the sequel? Seriously people, go out and touch grass... because this level of obsession is borderline stalkery/neurotic.
