FANTASTIC: Windows 7 Build 6956 new boot screen video

Recommended Posts

The video makes it hard to tell that it's still animating as long as the logo is displayed (it kind of glows/pulses). Plus the Win7 boot up is pretty short anyway and you wouldn't want an animation where part of it gets cut off!

Totally agree with you here. From what i see now, it's perfect. I would not change it all.

Elegance? I don't get it, what does that have to do with the computer running the software you need and providing the functions and utility you need?

Er, nothing. That's the point.

What does cheese have to do with a table!? Well, almost nothing obviously. One tastes nice, and the other you put stuff on. But I'd still like both in my house.

Probably the most useless feature they've announced for Windows 7. It's just a boot screen people. Who the hell cares what it looks like.

"Announced"? I doubt that...

We're enthusiasts, and we like cool new stuff. When we notice such stuff, it doesn't mean it was announced.

Its not a big deal but yea it looks quite cool. Sure it has no effect how it runs but most people will have to see that screen at least once a day so it might as well look cool. Can't tell from the video but I hope they don't have 16 bit color as that would really ruin it. Although I would prefer if those lil orbs would continue to spin around until windows has loaded, then transition into the flag.

Like I said somewhere else, it's only a bootscreen, only that.... clam down. If it was possible to never see a bootscreen because the OS could Instant-ON, I would be even more pleased.

Wow, a cool animation.... Like I care....

Windows 3.1 = FAIL

Windows 95 = FAIL

Windows 98 = FAIL

Windows 98SE = FAIL

Windows 2000 = SEMI-FAIL

Windows ME = TOTAL EPIC FAIL

Windows XP = = FAIL AT FIRST / LATER A WIN

Windows Vista = FAIL

Windows 7 = ?

I'm what you would call a retrospective prophet. I base the future off the past, and if that's the data I have to work with, guess what my predictions for Windows 7 will be?

Now for me and most people its more like:-

Windows 3.1 = SUCCESS

Windows 95 = SUCCESS

Windows 98 = SUCCESS

Windows 98SE = SUCCESS

Windows 2000 = SUCCESS

Windows ME = FAIL

Windows XP = SUCCESS

Windows Vista = SUCCESS

Wow, so where did you get the data you're working with? A Mac forum? 4chan?

anyone else notice that Thurrott's Screenshots have been edited to remove the actual build number from them

curious

Why would someone do that???

wonder where he got this build??

LOL, was about to say that. Wouldn't be surprised if it was the leaked 6956.

Anyways, Windows Media Center's new welcome page looks awesome.

The bootscreen clearly shows a square cropping off the light rays. Hopefully the fit-and-finish team for Win7 catches this.

Pauls sad that there's no hidden features in these builds it sounds like. =P

From what I remember MS never said they're feature complete just API complete so developers and IHVs don't have to worry about any future code changes that could break their software/drivers.

I think we could see more stuff with the official Beta 1 release and then more come RC1. Still, the fact it's performing faster and so on is a good sign also.

why the UAC's shields in Control Panel have a different colour? less protection by default?

lessprotectionju6.png

Since when different colors means less protection?? Wow....

Still, I'm getting more and more afraid that Win7 will be nothing more than Vista with some polish interface (taskbar,...) and a speedup that Vista SP2 will probably get. I'm running Vista SP2 and it's better speedwise.

I wonder if it's going to be enough to pay Again....

    • All versions is correct. The bug appears on any version of Windows with KB5094126 installed. It's a little insane to expect the author to explain that systems that can't possibly have that patch installed, will not experience the bug. If you have any gripe about the title, it would be that it doesn't mention the update at all, but I wouldn't agree with that either. A title is not expected to be a full summery of the article.
    • (Can't see if he's still wearing the clompy clown shoes though)
    • I'd say the first one failed to be as popular as Apple anticipated, but the easy adjustment here is to make fewer of them next time around. It would only be a "flop" if it isn't possible for Apple to recover the design and factory tooling costs given the number of units sold, which I doubt would be the case. It isn't like no one bought them; it just failed to become the new hot phone of the year.
    • You're right that it does not follow the plain meaning of the word, but in this context, it is a legal term defined in 49 U.S.C. Kind of how "wire fraud" laws apply even if a physical wire was not used. Given that it is codified in law, and it isn't just automotive journalists that don't understand evolving technology, I highly doubt congress would change a well understood term just because technology makes the term slightly less actuate.
