Spotify - Amazing Legal music App

Question

I came across www.spotify.com a few days ago, and I must say it's amazing! Been using it ever since, and haven't had a need to open itunes at all. Has pretty much every song I search for, and plays instantly with no buffering or problems etc, for a beta its very good. Anyway, it was invite only but today it's gone public so anyone and everyone can sign up. Give it a go, see what you think, i think it's a new revolution in how we will listen to music in the future.

Here's a review: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=LQC2eBQ7Lsk

It seems they're bringing it to the USA soon - bear in mind though that while legal artists get paid virtually nothing: I can't find the infographic but it's something like 0.0000015p / play compared to a few £ per retail album.

Still, it's better than stealing outright and gives an artist the possibility to have a much wider audience. Personally I've found a couple of albums on it I've liked and have gone out and bought them - so maybe artists should look at it as a loss-leader.

well an album is more than one song, and you only get paid once for the album :p

Think of how many thousand, tens of thousand or even hundreds of thousands of people who buy the album they dont get extra money every time the album is played, now say 100,000 people play one of your songs from one of your albums per day on spotify and for arguments sake say your figures are correct thats 15p per song then times that by how many songs are on the album just think how many times your album will be played over months/years, then tell me they get paid virtually nothing. You dont have the added costs of reprinting an old album, no marketing, no wages to pay, its free money.

Then look at the alternative, piracy. 0p for a long long time.

Spotify used to be good (not great as there was quite a bit of music they didnt have), but nowadays instead of maybe 1 advert every 30 minutes it seems like there is a 30 second ad every other song and to make matters worse its usually the same annoying ad - over and over again.

As a result i've moved on - shame though..

I think they've definitely increased the frequency of the adverts. Totally understandable from a business point of view though, that's where they get their income from.

Once the new update rolls out for me, I'm thinking about subscribing and adding my locally stored music. That was the one major feature blocking my full time use of Spotify.
