UFC 100

The Ultimate Fighting Championships' landmark "UFC 100" event will take place July 11 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports reported the date in his latest Mailbag feature.

Although UFC President Dana White told Iole he hasn't begun matchmaking for the event, and though rumors that all five UFC belts would be contested at the event proved unfounded, UFC 100 is nonetheless expected to be a blockbuster event.

White confirms UFC 100 to Las Vegas, St. Pierre vs. Alves likely

As first reported by Yahoo! Sports in January, UFC President Dana White has confirmed that UFC 100 will take place in July in Las Vegas.

White confirmed the location of the historic event during a recent interview with Canadian radio network CKAC Sports 730-AM.

White also indicated UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre (18-2 MMA, 12-2 UFC) will be defending his title at the event.

In Yahoo! Sports' previous report, Kevin Iole reported that White had committed to a July 11 date for UFC 100, as well as a return to the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas for the first time since July 2008.

The UFC has opted for the venue's sister property, the MGM Grand Garden Arena, for several major Las Vegas events. The Mandalay Bay Events Center seats approximately 11,000 spectators, while the MGM Grand Garden Arena boasts a capacity of nearly 15,000 seats.

While some early rumors had the UFC planning to put all five of the compnay's titles on the line for UFC 100 (which will actually be the company's 132nd event when including UFC Fight Nights and "The Ultimate Fighter" Finales), White has since indicated that will not be the case.

St. Pierre last defended his title in decisive fashion over UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn (13-5-1 MMA, 9-4-1 UFC) in a rematch of their 2006 clash. Controversy centering upon the improper application of Vaseline by St. Pierre's cornermen to their fighter has since marred the results, and both champions have indicated they would be open to a third meeting.

Should that bout be arranged for UFC 100, top welterweight contender Thiago Alves (16-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) and lightweight challenger Kenny Florian (11-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) would both be forced to wait for their well-deserved title shots.

it's not gonna be all 5 belts.. it was a nice rumor but it won't happen. BJP is scheduled to fight Florian on UFC 99. No way he'll be fighting again the next month.

Looks like Randy has changed his stance, he if currently filming a movie and he says if he can fit in a full-camp before UFC 99 he will be willing to fight Crocop. Also BJ vs Kenny will most likely go on either UFC 99 or UFC 100.

Sky and Setanta Ireland have agreed to broadcast the forthcoming UFC 100 tournament to viewers in the UK and Ireland.

Last month, the UFC terminated its UK and Ireland broadcasting deal with Setanta Sports, leading to fears about coverage of the fighting tournament in the UK.

It was recently confirmed that Setanta Ireland would broadcast the tournament to homes in the Republic of Ireland, but it was not until today that a UK broadcast partner was announced.

The event will be shown live on Sky channel 433 and on Setanta Ireland, as well as on the official UFC UK website, free of charge.

Coverage from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Nevada will start at 3am BST on July 11.
