[Official] Killzone 2

Yeah or Sony had bothered updating their 14-15 year old reference controller design or GG had bothered to make controls fully customizable.

e3-ps3-pad.jpg?

At least it would come back to you if you threw it through the room out of frustration.

I don't think the problem lies with the DS3, it's more the fact that we can't map our own control schemes.

true, just kidding and all. ;)

I think it is very safe to say most of us are still getting used to the controls themselves.

And that leads me to this rant...

THE DAMN CONTROLS

For me, they are less than ideal just as a few people have already stated in this thread, but I am confident I will definitely learn them sooner than later. I also feel once I do, I'll feel completely fine using them so while I definitely currently do not like them, I will like them sooner than later, so they are not a huge issue for me right now. While playing, I definitely heard more than several people grumbling about not liking the controls and honestly questioning if they would ever get used to them.

Someone mentioned it before in the thread and I thought it was a very good observation. I agree and think the people who are having the most issues with the controls are in more cases than not people who primarily have only used the 360 the past few years. Do not get me wrong, I think there can also be people who hate the controls just because they are extremely limited and not ideal. No doubt about it they are easy to dislike.. However if you come into using the controls not really using the PS3 much over the past 3 years, it definitely makes them that much more frustrating to use IMO.

I still stick to what I said before though, I really think it grew on me tonight and am looking forward to playing more, maybe even later tonight when my wife falls asleep.

I said that :p It's quite funny actually; I really like the controls, yet here on Neowin, which is without a doubt a forum where more 360 players reside than their PS3 counterparts, a lot of people really complain about it... I guess it can't be helped, I just hope you all can get used to it and stop complaining about it, because IMHO it has been established by now :p

I personally haven't played online THAT much (nearly 6 hours now) but to be honest, the only map which I think isn't laid out well is Radec Academy, if you're getting spawncamped there, it's over... no way out. On all other maps the grenade-spam etc. just doesn't bother me because I know my way around that... Partially due to me just elaborately looking at the map layout in the skirmish mode before daring to go online... (led to a great couple of flanks by me + 1 SMG in the first hours that I played online :p)

You were flanking pretty well on one of the maps I played with you, I spawned next to you cause of the teams.

Then I went and arsed it up by trying to open fire on 4 guys at once

I'll play some later on, right now I'm away to nurse a hangover. I spent so much money last night :'(

I love the game, it is a cross up of different FPS play styles. I have to say it does work really well. Yes, the controls are somewhat annoying but once you get the hang of them find. It was a mistake not to let people map their own buttons. It might come in a patch?

It seems a lot of people will be playing this for some time to come.

The only complaint I have so far is that they shouldn't have made the classes system this linear...

I will probably never use the engineer, I don't like the shotgun nor do I like the sentry gun (I'm used to TF2's engineer :p) so it kind of bothers me I have to unlock that first... I would've liked to see that they just put some requirements and that you have to head into opposite 'directions' to unlock everything that way...

Hope my thoughts come across, my post is a bit messy XD

I am really looking forward to when I unlock more classes to play with. I like the idea of it been classed base, that way I can be a medic and not have to worry about getting more kills then anyone else.

This is one of the main reasons I think TF2 is so great, it gives players a chance to play a part even if they are not the best with kills.

I played a bit of it and from what I saw the overall cinematic quality was fantastic. The problem I had with the game was the fact that all this awesome, high-velocity action was happening around you and you only had this sluggish control scheme to interact with it. Maybe it is just me, but I honestly didn't see anything but the atmosphere to write home about. The story seems good but the MP will determine if the game has any replay value. So until I get my hands on it again for some MP play I probably will leave this on my "not quite impressed" list of games.

And I agree that the pad layout isn't horrible, but mapping the firing button to R1 and not R2 was a strange idea. Of course, the whole movement of the control scheme feels wrong but that is most likely because the PS3 pad is not an FPS pad in the least. It is really irritating to move something in two different directions when they are in identical positions (joystick), so it fights against your natural tendencies, or at least mine.

Well in case anyone hadn't noticed, the shotgun has aim assist.

I hate the shotgun

Still have not played online yet, just doing the Single Player which is great, the weapons are amazing!

I love the lighting gun. I don't know the name but its awesome.
