[Official] Killzone 2

For the record, Setho's opinion is exactly the same things I already talked about when the demo came out. The difference is he was the one who actually enjoyed it at first and then later changed his mind once he played the full game. He gave me a hard time on MSN over it!

So I can't win with you guys, I either "moan and whine" about things too much, or occassions like this where I don't say enough, what am I supposed to do? I've been pretty conservative about my opinion on KZ2 for the better of NW forums and this topic. If you want me to really start taking digs at it then I could, but like I said, I won't for the forums health and my own sake.

Nothing you say should deter the forums health unless you put it across in an aggressive/flaming manner.

I listen to many gaming podcasts, all of those regularly talk about pros and cons of every game during their segment, as no game is really perfect. The guys on the podcasts always get along, even when two of them butt heads about an opinion. NW Podcast needs more of that by the way, so far you guys pretty much agree with each other :p Well, I think if ynnoj had played RE5 retail he might of given you and Larry a run ;)

What people have issues with is when it's generally clear someone is having a hissy fit for the sole purpose of trying to rile up people who do like the game. If you remain calm and explain what you don't like in a civilized manner you can bet your ass the only person getting warnings or degrading the health of the forum is anyone being aggressive towards you. And most people shouldn't be if you respectfully list what you don't like (Y) It's just the way it ends up sometimes... people get passionate about things they like so if someone sets themselves on fire and runs into the room screaming for attention it can sometimes go ###### up. You even commented about how you ignore the Halo haters :p Of course it still shouldn't, but you know how easy it is to get carried away in here at times...

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, something the mods need to remind everyone around here at times, myself included.

But anyway, in regards to KZ2 I now know you think the same as Sethos :p

Plus, related to MP, there's gotta be someone who wants to start playing with me again LOL. I ranked up to Lieutenant I think it is, one gold bar?

FTR, that is all I ever preached when I was a Mod.

Countless times I said that, so at this point it should be a given amongst all of the regulars here.

Fixed :p

I'll maybe pick the game up again when the DLC hits, I really don't have an FPS to play right now so I'm settling for it.

Unless the DLC is free, or costs <= 79p (what's in my wallet) it's unlikely I'm buying it :p

a Pint or two > Overpriced map packs any day (Y)

Still I'm sure in the Summer once the DLC hits with the new patch (there's a fairly chunky patch hitting at the same time to update the EU/USA copies with all the tweaks and fixes of the Japanese release) we'll get more people playing. Maybe even Sethos for a few rounds, but he'll be a nooby assault class ;)

I would enjoy people getting back into Socom actually, 1.41 fixed a lot, and 1.5 due next month is adding a lot of functionality content missing on release (relating to clans/party system/etc). We had a few good games during the beta that were fun.

Ohh, and I am more than willing to disagree with these guys on the podcast. :p

In all seriousness, go for it ;)

You guys should pick some subjective material to get stuck into for the next show. Nothing to do with the Wii, as most people agree with everything regarding Wii games LOL.

How about even trying to tackle console loyalties and perceived passions for something you like? That's bound to cause anarchy  I'm sure a segment on DLC following up on Munkys editorial might have some good discussions also. Maybe timed exclusives, paying for exclusives, talk about developers profit cuts on PSN/Live and Wiiware (news about that today). All of these things are "grey areas" as in there's plenty of opinions to be had.

Jeez, this thread really took off...

@AB

Just to make it clear about my thoughts on K2 graphics:

I'm not saying it isn't the best looking FPS/TPS, I just think it's pretty much on par with what we expected for a game coming out in 2009. I didn't see a major step, and it didn't put any shame on other current games' graphics IMO. It definitely has something going for it, and that is immersiveness. The way the player moves, gun animations, they all provide a better looking experience. But really, I don't think it deserves all the praise from early reviews, which put such a large focus on the graphics alone. All that hype brought disapointment with it I guess, hence the "that's it?".

Plus, related to MP, there's gotta be someone who wants to start playing with me again LOL. I ranked up to Lieutenant I think it is, one gold bar?

Feel free to join me anytime you see me in a game. I'm on pretty much everyday, trying to see if I can get into the top 1% for the week. I made it to 6% last week, but I was out of town Saturday and Sunday...I think I would have had a good shot at 1% if I was around then. :\

Bad Company

Grand Theft Auto 4

Ace Combat 6

Assassin's Creed

Just to name a few, is it because they have epic lighting, is it because they have super clear and crisp textures, is it because they are technical marvels? No. They are just presented overall better, all of them feature vast terrain and yet keeps a down to earth appearance. Killzone 2 looks good, yes, but there's WAY too much use of "Next-gen" technology to keep my marvelled. As I've said time and time again, too many confined spaces, scripted sequences, extremely boring colours and overuse of effects to 'hide' 2D effects and crappy textures, been a graphics ###### for too long not to notice these things.

Yes it may be pushing some boundaries but it isn't making my knickers moist.

You wear knickers? And they get moist from video games? WOW - that's 2-thumbs u lol

I think KZ2 has amazing graphic, don't ask me to break it down. But I guess I really enjoy the game too and that just makes me like everythign about it, except for the lack of co-op.

I think is not hard if you play everyday. I didn't play alot and I made it to the 10%. I need to take a week to made the 1%.

I dunno' the more I play the more I'm impressed, the quality of lighting and particle effects, some of the bump mapping and surface reflections are a big step forwrad, I'd say it's currently the best looking overall game on the market. A solid single player experience (probably the best since Bioshock and COD4), a very well done multiplayer game (also the best since COD4), a gorgeous engine and an active developer. YMMV, but I can't see how anyone can arrive at "that's it?".

Dude add me to your buddy list and I'll do likewise...I play pretty much every weekend. C u in the game!

Like I said many times already, I'm judging on the demo alone (which graphically was really meh compared to the hype).

Maybe the game gets better after the first levels, I'll know when I get to play it.

I would say Co-Op for Killzone 2 would've been a nice addition. But if they can't do it then they can't do it and that is a shame. They must have their reasons but I personally can't see why they couldn't do it. There have been many other games that have done it with little problems.

The thing is, all this arguing is stupid, no-one really knows unless you are an actual dev on the Killzone 2 team!

I have to agree though, I was not overly impressed with the demo and the full game didn't do any better. I just don't like the colour scheme and art direction.

These "Hardcore ranks" if you already have tons of points will you automatically get them?

Also, Seb, can you comment on the point requirement of the ranks?

We'll let you know next week. A few already qualify though :smileyvery-happy:

Patch 1.24 - Fewer Bugs, More Features!

Hey Killzone fans!

In a continuing effort to provide support for Killzone 2 Online, and to show you day-1 fans of Killzone that we mean business, we are very happy to announce the upcoming 1.24 patch. This patch is the biggest one yet, and addresses a large number of reported issues, exploits and bugs - but it also adds new functionality to the game for you to enjoy! I would like to highlight the fact that we are adding 3 new ranks to the game, reached at 5000, 10000 and 100000 points respectively. These ranks do not give any rewards but it allows the real hardcore players to show off their hard work to everyone in-game! Other highlights include a new 17-24 player search game filter, enlarged HUD radar distance and a much requested ?Join Clan Member? tab in the join game screen. The patch also allows you to play against the next batch of contenders: Japan, who will be able to buy their copies of Killzone 2 on the 23rd of April and will be joining the community online.

Allow me to clarify on these new features a little: The new ranks we?ve added are basically a reward to all the players out there that have massive amounts of points, and we hope that it inspires other players to keep on playing. The 17-24 player filter was a direct request from the community because a lot of people think the ?sweet spot? of the multiplayer levels is around 24 players instead of 32 and are creating custom games accordingly. The Join Clan Member tab was also a direct community request, allowing players to join clan members when they are playing regular non-clan related games.

There has been a lot of discussion on the forums about the lack of a ?party system? in Killzone 2 and rest assured, we are working hard on creating features that will make it easier for you to play with your friends online. These features include being able to join the same faction of a friend already in-game directly from the join game menus, manually being able to switch faction during gameplay and making existing squads consistent over multiple rounds; no more need to create a new squad every single round. These features will be coming to a patch near you soon!

To read more details about the 1.24 patch specifics, please visit the Killzone 2 FAQ section.

We hope this patch shows how dedicated we are to the game, and that it will allow you to enjoy Killzone 2 Online just that little bit more! Of course, we will continuously keep looking for more bug and exploit fixes, as well as keep an eye out for other additions we can add to the game. So please keep reporting on the forums! And last but definitely not least, a big thank you from the entire Killzone 2 team to all the Killzone players out there for their continuing support!

Keep on fraggin?!

P.S.: I almost forgot to mention: The patch also adds DLC support! ? So you know;)hat that means? ;)

    • Anthropic introduces Claude Tag, a new AI teammate for Slack by Fiza Ali Anthropic has announced Claude Tag, a new feature that lets teams work with Claude directly inside Slack. The idea is simple: once Claude is added to a Slack workspace and given access to selected channels, users can tag @Claude in conversations and assign tasks. Claude can then work through those requests using connected tools and data sources before posting its results back into a Slack thread. What makes Claude Tag different from a typical chatbot is that it's designed to operate as a shared assistant for an entire team rather than a single user. Everyone in a channel interacts with the same Claude instance. This allows the team members to see ongoing work and continue tasks started by others. Furthermore, Anthropic says the AI can build context over time by following conversations in channels where it has permission to operate. This means users don't have to repeatedly provide the same background information for every request. The system is also designed for asynchronous work. Instead of waiting for responses in a chat window, users can assign a task to Claude and return later once the work is complete. Anthropic says Claude can break larger requests into multiple steps and use connected tools to complete them. Moreover, the system can also schedule follow-up tasks and continue working on projects over extended periods. Another feature allows Claude to keep the users updated and follow up on unresolved tasks when its optional "ambient" mode is enabled. The company says the tool is already being used internally for software development, data analysis, support workflows, and debugging. According to Anthropic, around 65% of its product team's code is now generated through its internal version of Claude Tag. For organisations concerned about security, administrators can control which channels, tools, and data sources Claude can access. Separate Claude instances can also be configured for different departments, helping keep information isolated between teams. Administrators can also monitor activity logs, review completed tasks, and set spending limits at both the organisation and channel level. Claude Tag is now available in beta for Claude Enterprise and Claude Team customers and runs on Claude Opus 4.8 that was announced this May. The feature will also replace Anthropic's existing Claude in Slack application, with current users able to migrate within a 30-day migration window. Lastly, eligible customers will receive introductory credits to help teams evaluate the new experience.
    • Beats Studio Pro wireless over-ear ANC headphones drop to their lowest price yet by Fiza Ali Amazon is currently offering the Beats Studio Pro headphones at their all-time low price. The Studio Pro use 40mm active drivers which are designed to improve clarity and reduce distortion compared to previous models, with up to an 80% improvement over the Beats Studio3 Wireless. A built-in digital processor adjusts frequency response to keep the sound balanced rather than overly boosted in any one area. They also include Active Noise Cancelling that adapts to your surroundings to reduce background noise along with a Transparency mode that lets outside sound in when you need awareness of what’s going on around you. Furthermore, the headphones support personalised Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking as well as Dolby Atmos playback on supported content. Moreover, built-in voice-targeting microphones improve call quality. You can also switch between three sound profiles including Beats Signature for balanced music playback, Entertainment for films and gaming, and Conversation for clearer voice in calls and podcasts. Physically, they are designed to be worn for long periods without feeling heavy or awkward. The ear cushions use UltraPlush engineered leather while metal sliders allow you to adjust the fit. On the connectivity side, the Studio Pro use Class 1 Bluetooth for a stable, long-range wireless connection. There is also a 3.5mm input if you want to plug in directly, including use with in-flight entertainment systems. Controls are located on the headphones and include a "b" button for music and call control, a volume rocker, and a multifunction button used for switching listening modes, EQ settings, power, and pairing. In addition, the headphones offer integration with both Apple and Android devices. On Apple devices, they support one-touch pairing with iCloud-linked devices, hands-free Siri access, Find My tracking based on last connected location, and automatic software updates. On Android devices, they support Google Fast Pair, Audio Switch between compatible devices, and Google Find My Device tracking, with additional features available through the Beats app. When it comes to the battery performance, it is rated at up to 40 hours of listening time with ANC turned off, and up to 24 hours with ANC or Transparency mode enabled. A 10-minute Fast Fuel charge should provide up to 4 hours of playback. Finally, the headphones use a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and charge via USB-C.
