Some asshat put some spoilers for the movie on another forum I go on, at least I assume they are, I can't see the movie for a few weeks and its eating away at me.

Is

Harrison, Khan?

Read Wikipedia's article, under the plot section if you want to know all of the details. Looks like he is.

Saw this last night, extremely action packed with the HUGE amount of lens flare I expected from Abrams :p. Benedict Cumberbatch was a terrific villain (and VERY well acted). I'd easily give Into Darkness a 9/10!

I enjoyed it and definitely worth seeing in 3D (great use of atmospheric effects like dust motes and sparks etc). Its a good movie and one I would recommend, just not great Trek. The social commentary and physics were weak at best - but JJ admits that he isn't very smart. Thats ok though, this story is clearly more character driven and that is something he is good at. Cumberbatch and chemistry between the crew, if exaggerated, was good. (Including a certain baby mamma) The remainder after the reveal seemed more predictable and flat, but still entertaining. Pacing throughout was good.

I think I'm still the most disappointed in this new 'machine gun' phaser BS, especially on the ship to ship scale. It could have been more.

Didn't care much for the reversal either, as it highlights one of my annoyances - Quinto. He just doesn't deliver the understated machismo Nimoy infused into the character, let alone the reasoned, logical tones. Maybe I'm just biased against him being less Vulcan (yet somehow has all the usual tricks, though the neck pinch didn't seem very effective - maybe he moved that nerve cluster? ;) ).

Quinto plays Spock as someone who's repressing his emotions, while Nimoy played him as someone in control of them (a stoic).

I was thoroughly impressed with the movie.

It was predictable (somewhat) if you're familiar with the cannon lore, but at the

same time that's exactly what made it exciting for me.

The ONLY thing that disappointed me about the movie- as a HUGE fan of the original

Star Trek TV show- was:

I wanted either an end-credits scene with the Tribbles,

or I wanted to see them use the Tribbles as a weapon against Cumberbatch's ship. :)

This. The original film was set before the events of TOS, so it's perfectly reasonable to expect that Spock's control over his human side isn't as developed. Regardless, the alternate timeline means that the two characters cannot be compared, especially after the emotional pain caused by the destruction of Vulcan. Personally I think that Quinto is excellent as Spock. It's the new Sulu that I consider the biggest disappointment but not enough to annoy me.

It would have been nice but they couldn't very well do that without introducing the concept of Tribbles to a new audience. However, if the next film is going to focus on Klingons?as seems likely?then we could see them return in the next film. I think the cameo role they played was fine, as it's a nod to the original without simply copying everything.

JJ didn't want to make it complicated or too trekkie because he wanted it to be able to target everyone. The fact those who don't know anything about trek can go in and enjoy this means he's done what he set out to do. He's said as much publically.

Just saw it and

Cumberbatch is GREAT, one evil SOB, the action is almost non-stop, Spock has a Hulk moment, and there's a potential spoiler every 5 minutes. Lots of references to TOS, earlier Trek movies etc., but often with an alt-timeline twist. Our group of 6 really enjoyed it.

F/X: fantastic!

    • The reviews you refer to mean nothing. Where there is no journalism there is no reason to call the gaming media's opinion pieces "reviews". For GP games there is indeed a metric for success - increasing subscriptions. Which turns in revenue. The only circumstance in which subs do not rise when great is being released is a Game Pass system where the company is close to fully saturated with customers in a subscription. However, in that case as the theory goes you spend aplenty in all kind of games - from shady live service cash cows and customer offending agitprop crap in purple colours to robust and entertaining single player games. And keep a solid level of profitability. Ignoring the simply innocuous but mid games MGS has released primarily of the second kind.
    • Report: Microsoft to use AWS to help GitHub deal with a major surge in demand by Pradeep Viswanathan Thanks to the surge of coding AI agents, GitHub's usage has skyrocketed over the past 12 months. To meet this demand, GitHub started with a plan in October 2025 to increase capacity by 10x. However, by early this year, the company realized that it needed 30x scale. This rapid growth has caused severe strain on the platform's reliability, resulting in several small outages over the past few months. In April, GitHub published a long blog post explaining the steps it is taking to resolve these reliability issues. In the post, the company also confirmed that it is working toward a multi-cloud architecture for better resilience. Today, Business Insider reported that GitHub is turning to Amazon Web Services to help deal with a major surge in AI-driven coding activity. It is important to note that GitHub is still in the process of moving completely to the Azure cloud. The current plan is to move the platform fully to Azure by 2027 so that it can scale better as per developer demand. Therefore, the current decision to utilize AWS might be part of a short-term plan to meet immediate demand. A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed that GitHub is using multiple cloud providers with the following statement: For Microsoft, the decision highlights the operational pressure behind the AI boom. GitHub has to stay reliable for developers at a time when rivals such as Codex, Cursor, Claude Code, and other AI coding tools are gaining attention. And the decision to use AWS for computing capacity seems practical given the circumstances.
